Gabe Jeudy-Lally to UT

CB: Slaughter-Williams
CB: Lally-Matthews
NB: McDonald-Turnage
S: Charles-Thomas
S: Walker-McCullough

That would be my guess right now…it’s going to be fun watching this play out in spring and fall camp

Turrentine will play imo.

Find another experienced corner in the portal opposite Jeudy-Lally who can cover man would be excellent. Won’t be easy to find, but in my opinion we have enough bodies and experience to cover the safety and Star positions especially if we get more consistent pass rush. McDonald, Slaughter and Walker in particular.

I have no idea how good he is. It looks like he's played in every game for BYU the past two season, so he's at least experienced.

I’m not sure where he will fit in but can’t have too much depth. We had tons of injuries last year and were thin in the secondary at times.

And now the question…. why did he want to leave BYU ? That’s the thing I always wonder - if you are a two year starter, why leave ?
Great question. He had his pick of the best choices of Higher Education the great U.S.A. has to offer. Please do not forget he was also offered by ALL of the service academies. He chose Vandy because he wants to play ball! He upgraded to a better football school after a year. Again, he believed in himself and chose to upgrade again. Smart ballers like that become VFLs!

I’m no football coach, but I’ll tell you what needs to happen… We need to get all of our dbacks in a drill where someone is constantly throwing deep balls to receivers. Our group of defensive backs are so bad at running down the field and recognizing when the receiver is looking for the ball and getting their own heads turned around. If the defensive back is looking for the ball, the refs will let you get away with a whole lot. But when you just tackle the receiver, it’s PI every time. I’ve never seen a collect unit so unbelievably bad at this one particular skill as our group.
It’s simple. Play 8 dbs, 2 on each receiver. One to watch the receiver and one to turn and watch the ball.

this is his second transfer. Will he be eligible right away? Is he a grad transfer?
We follow 3 years at Vandy and a year at BYU. Without reading the article, I expect this kid is well on his way to a masters degree in micro kinetic Biology or something of that nature.

I think we are going to see an exodus from the DB room. Too many less than marginal players in there. This guy seems like another marginal player, but our DBs weren’t even marginal. They stunk. I was really hoping we could find a DB who really showed out at a lesser school who had multiple years still left.

I still think coaching is the big disconnect for our DBs.

Burrell probably starts at one CB. At the least, he’s in the 2-deep. Also, between Turnage and Slaughter, I think Turnage is more of a boundary CB than Slaughter, and Slaughter more of a Nickel/Star (who can also play S).

He’s not marginal. At all.

Lol, safety play was atrocious this past season. It’s a bigger need than another corner at this point.

What I'm truly hoping...and it show's in my 2-deep...is that the day's of playing the "trusty veteran" are over because the younger guys have enough experience in the system now to offset any seniority advantage...long story short, no more playing the Burrells and McCulloughs over more athletic younger players...

As far as Slaughter vs. Turnage...I personally saw just a little more from Slaughter as a CB than I did from Turnage this year....and I think if they'll let him focus all off season and pre-season on being a CB instead of moving him around then he'll take another step and be even better next year...

Like I said though...it's going to be fun watching this play out...I feel like we finally have some legit depth and competition in the secondary...I will feel good about whatever the staff ends up going with because I believe it will stem from legit competition and not just playing certain players because you trust them more

Slaughter needs to go back to Star or even S if possible. He's not a natural CB. He might be able to put in a lot of work and play into it.

There seem to be questions as to whether Williams can play CB in the SEC. He could turn out to be a return specialist only.
