I've lived in Charlotte for 25 yrs. Its still not home. Knoxville is home...that being said Panthers stadium is cool and there are plenty of bars, restaurants, etc. To welcome my Vol brethren. Cops here are like Nazis tho...whatever you do don't drink and drive etc. Can't wait to see my Vols here...only other places Ve watched them are Columbia and Atlanta.

And isn't The Ferg a Dooley commit?? So he Jones didn't "get him out of there" he was already coming. North is fuzzy here too but have a feeling he was a UT lean or commit prior to CBJ too.

It'll actually be nice to see some real football with for real fans at the Bank of America stadium... looking at you Panthers and ACC championship:eek:lol:

I used to go through Charlotte on my way to Laurinburg and am looking forward to this game and it is surprising that UT and WVU have never played in football.

Don't know where the game is matters anyway,99.9 % of our loyal fanbase won't go anywhere including Knoxville

Heck yes!! I'll have to set up a big ol tailgate for this one! Got 4 years to plan it lol, y'all come on by. The new baseball stadium took our old tailgating spot that we've had for years but I still know of the rest of the great ones. This is gonna be BA.
I like the idea of playing WV, but Charlotte is a boring city. The NASCAR hall of fame is about the only thing to do there.
Lol ok chief.

Some of you need to man up. We should have a big, nationally relevant nonconference matchup every single season. It's SEC vs Big 12 likely during primetime and in a NFL stadium. Does it make our schedule tougher? Absolutely, but that's the point. How does that not get you excited?

This doesnt make a whole lot of sense to me.

And to those who don't understand neutral site games. They ALWAYS get more national attention than a standard home and home, teams have the potential to make nearly as much money, and the atmosphere/event is almost always great. Fans get to visit a large metro city (There's no way you can say Morgantown would be more interesting to visit than Charlotte) and mix with a large contingency of Vol fans as well as opposing fans. Ya, WVU fans are nuts (let's be honest, so are we), but the atmosphere of these games is what college football is about. Tailgate with Vols, cheer at the game, then hit the bars and talk ball with the opposition (and steal their women). :pepper:

The event tax that the city of Knoxville charges UT also is a factor in this.

And until Knoxville removes that tax, this trend will continue. It is one of the lesser known reasons the athletic dept reserve fund has been depleted. It is to my understanding (from a discussion on this topic on the sports animal a few weeks ago) that the tax was instituted to help pay for the construction of Thompson Bowling arena. UT did not build it on their own, the city of Knoxville supposedly imposed the tax in a partnership deal to pay for it's construction. That cost has now been paid for, but the tax is still being charged.

It is one reason TBA does not host as many concerts as it could. It is also the reason that neutral site games are being staged, large sums of cash without the entertainment tax being charged for one game a year.

I believe Hart's Number 1 mission right now is to rebuild the reserve fund. That is why the Nike deal went down, and these neutral site games are being planned. Some folks may not like it. I am not all that crazy about it, but it takes more than donor dollars to run the programs.

Of course, the other advantage is playing the games in recruiting hotbeds. Upper ET in 2016, Nashville in 17 and Charlotte in 18? Makes a certain amount of sense to me.

I'd love to see Tennessee start a yearly series with North Carolina. It could be played at Charlotte(a neutral site).

Great points,Tennessee needs something like this to cement Tennessee's presence in North Carolina. It needs to go back to the way it used to be when North Carolina was UT's personal recruiting grounds.

I live in NC, but am only an hour and change from Knoxville. It takes me 3 hours to go to Charlotte but I will go. Charlotte is a fun town and the stadium is right downtown so there will be plenty to see and do before and after.
