Game Thread: (11/12) Lady Vols. 72 - Gonzaga. 73

Obviously if you say it depends on her performance then she doesn't have a three year leash.
Well she has a four year contract with that last extension so I would think she would have to lose more than she wins this year and next. I don't think White is to interested in paying big money for womens basketball when he is really going to have to pony more for football. I don't want her fired evidently you do I am in for the long haul as long as she can get out of them what they gave today, We wouldn't be 2 and 4 if they had played that way all season.

ON NOT ADVANCING THE BALL!!!

Kellie said in her presser that she had wanted to advance the ball but that "there had been an action had already occurred that prevented us from advancing". she did not explain what the action. KJH added upon a follow-up, that she would have had to use her last time out to advance the ball and she wanted to save in case, they goy trapped in a tough situation in the last 5 seconds. As she pointed out, they got open on the in bound play so that was not the critical factor in deciding the game.
What in the world how you save a TO for something that might happen

They can win the VT game and the LSU game, No chance vs SC or Stanford none just don`t have the talent to deal with those two teams.
I don't think they win either of those games unless Tamari Key plays like she did in the first half of last season. Otherwise, Kitley and Reese will have their way. That alone should be huge motivation for her!

Definitely not the start any of us thought we would have. There is many games to play and get better so let's see were we are in January. Key however is not getting it done. She protects the rim but right now she is a liability on offense and she had no desire to hustle and rebound ball. I would bench her and start Franklin. Love my Lady Vols and will never turn my back on them or Coach. In CHRIST Alone

The action is a basketball move, like dribbling.

One thing about Key is she still catches and brings the ball down to shoot. They need to correct that she needs to keep that ball up there where she catches it should still be able to get up a decent shot. Bringing it down was a turnover three different times.
She brings it down all the tine, and other times she can’t even catch the ball

Franklin had 21 points and 12 rebounds last year in a win over VT. Not the same Franklin but still might be the best option. Carolyn Peck today on the broadcast commented several times today on Franklin's physicality and aggressivness, but it seemed to me she was also calling out Key for her lack of such without directly saying it

What is with Jackson.... marching right to the locker room after the game.... no post game walk through the line

That is an example of action Pat would not have tolerated ..... with KJH it is OK....

We should win with grace yet also be graceful and dignified after a loss

I just saw that when I rewatched the end of the game. Yeah, that was uncalled for. Her behavior after the losses has been atrocious, and she needs to learn how to win AND lose with some class.

I’ve steered clear thus far. Will check the box score and highlights and may comment. May just continue to avoid what I am sure is a genuinely toxic enviroment.

Well that's a revolting development. Exactly what we don't need right now. Dang, I'm logging off and going to bed before things get any worse!

Fandom sure can be funny. Thought we'd be cruising in a Lamborghini about now and instead we're huffing along in a beat up Yugo. Hopefully there's going to be a life lesson in all this.

Anyone that has Hoosier for a name should also be ignored on a Vol site. You are hereby ignored by a Vol fan for life.

I was just stating the obvious. You must not be watching the same **** show the rest of us have been watching to get us to 2-4. We as Vol fans deserve better. This is a proud program that has had nothing but success. We deserve someone that can get us there.

Agreed, maybe Merle Norman is available?

Lady Vols need some answers from Tamari Key. She is going to have to assert herself defensively and offensively. We are not going to win if we don’t have her. I love Jasmine Franklin. She asserted herself tonight, demanded for the ball, got rebounds and hustled. Jordan Horston and Rickea cannot pull this team alone, it’s going to need to be an assertive effort. Go Lady Vols! Don’t be discouraged, but use this as motivation to improve and win!

Yep. Persevere! A great life lesson.

I see people trying to predict all our big games, but for me it is so difficult to know as I think this team could go in three different directions: get mired in their current mediocrity, continue to get better and become a good to very good team (be 2nd or 3rd in SEC but not beat the top rated teams) or develop into the great team that most people thought was possible before the season. A key is to get our best 5 starts and let them jell. The starters should earn it through effort, team-work, and overall performance, not by reputation or what they did last year. It will also be important to establish who the best 3 to 4 replacements are and keep that steady as well. The others can play in games that are a route, as they did against Rutgers. This team needs to build chemistry and this seems to be an approach to .give them the best chance to develop it.

I thought she called out Key pretty bluntly.

Actually, there is a fairly reasonable explanation for that decision. The Lady Vols were up by one with 15.6 sec left in the game. Gonzaga was in the position of fouling to avoid the Lady Vols running out the clock. The Lady Vols were not in the position of needing a quick score and there would be time left on the clock after any free throws allowing the coach to use her last time out at that point. In fact, the Gonzaga player was trying to foul Horston when the ref blew the whistle and called traveling.
There are plenty of other coaching decisions in this game that deserve scrutiny, but the focus of so many of the fans on this paticular one is, in my opinion, misplaced.

Nice try. But it doesn't wash. TN's first job was to get the ball in bounds and avoid a turnover. Preferably into the sure hands of your best free throw shooter. A lot easier to do from in front of the scorer's table than from under your own basket. During the time out you cover what your team is to do based on the possibilities -- both ft made, one ft missed, both ft missed -- so you don't need another time out to set up your defense (which, btw, would give your opponent a chance to set up their offense).

You're assuming we would have not had a problem getting the ball in from the side. I understand it's easier, but all inbound plays for us are difficult for some reason.
