Game Thread: #11 Lady Vols at #15 Kentucky. Thursday, Feb. 27, 7pm ET, SECN.

I'm more concerned that this late in the season our players haven't shown the ability to come out from the start with focused energy on half court defense.

We've seen them play solid D. We know and they know they can do it. It's too close to tourney time, and everyone knows that defense travels.

It's like an insecurity, where players are so afraid of failure that they create their own early handicap so they have an excuse if they don't pull it off. I wonder if we have a lot of perfectionists on the team, and their greatest fear would be to fail after going all out 100% for four quarters. It's a real thing among individuals, but I've never seen it as a team personality.

Go Lady Vols! Now let's out of our heads and play the other team instead of ourselves.

The bad thing about this offense is that no matter how you are playing or hurting your team you get to come back in every 2 minutes. A normal offense would sit Spearman. Turnovers, jacked up 3’s, and zero defense or rebounding. How do you send a message to a player who is playing bad if you cannot take away playing time.

Is it possible the effort and execution on defense are negatively impacted by the everyone gets to play scheme?
Just the opposite--you know you can go all out every second because you've got a guaranteed blow coming soon.

I still think they need a session with Mashack, showing them what real defense demands.
