Game thread: #15/13 Lady Vols at Florida. Sunday, Feb. 23, 1pm ET, SECN

Her shot selection and careless turnovers annoy the hell out of me at times, but it’s a fact of life that we’re at our best with her in the game. We saw that yesterday.
Facts...i think everyone in my household know who COOP is thats how much yelling of fustrations i have calling her name during games lol ik she young but my god some of the thing she does is very LOW IQ based...

Gimmie one more round please.

To reduce the risk of future mindless errors, I shall henceforth always refer to Ms. Ruby Whitehorn as "Ruby" or perhaps "Ruby W." should another Ruby join the program. If that new addition Ruby happens to be named "Ruby Whitehouse", I fear my meager grip on sanity would be irrevocably broken. So, please CKC, sign just one Ruby at a time....

Madtown, you have a brain clog when it comes to Ruby. Go to your room, right now, and take out a pencil and a notebook, and write her name 1,000 times. it's not Ruby Whitehouse, it's Ruby WhiteHORN. Horn. HORN! WhiteHORN.

Ruby Whitehorn. Ruby Whitehorn. Ruby Whitehorn. Ruby Whitehorn. Ruby Whitehorn. Ruby Whitehorn. Ruby Whitehorn. Ruby Whitehorn. Ruby Whitehorn. Ruby Whitehorn. Ruby Whitehorn. Ruby Whitehorn. Ruby Whitehorn. Ruby Whitehorn. Ruby Whitehorn. Ruby Whitehorn. Ruby Whitehorn. Ruby Whitehorn. Ruby Whitehorn. Ruby Whitehorn. Ruby Whitehorn. WhiteHORN

HORN.

WHITEHORN.

😂🤣😂
Preach!!!!!!!

And this why we can't have nice things. Coop was a bit player as a freshman at SC. Now in her 2nd season, she has become the LVs go to player. She is key to their entire defensive scheme and the heart of their offensive attack. We saw at the FL game what the team looks like without Coop.

Sure, she makes some mistakes but those some of those errors come with her role as the head of the snake of an aggressive pressing defense. On the whole, this team makes a lot of "mistakes" because the entire system is built on a high risk-high reward scheme. As long they generate more mistakes then they make, the outcome is generally positive. And 21 wins so far indicates that the LVs have generally been on the right side of the equation.

Coop will become an incredible player as she continues to gain experience.

Labeling her inexperience and some issues that just come with the team's style of play as "LOW IQ" is questionable on so many levels but to avoid further controversy, lets just say I am pretty sure that such derogatory comments directed at a LV athlete violates board rules and it is also completely unwarranted.

Alas, the whole world is piling on. I just took a video of myself confessing my last name transgression to the entire world. I blow my HORN in shame and repentance! View attachment 724231
I would check your autocorrect. Sometimes if you once or more misspell a word, spell "checker" will "correct" your correct spellings to match prior misspellings.

That's how autocorrect came to be known among many people as autocucumber.

Thanks Orange. I would love to blame name-gate (the shame, the shame!!!) on autocorrect but this one is on me. Funny thing is I know full well that her last name is Whitehorn but when typing on this board, I do often end it with house. I think the habituated familiarity of the term white house, gets the better of me.

Someone on another thread just called her Whitethorn!😂😂😂😂
You are not alone!

Well I could understand this notion if the mistakes Cooper makes are because of the system, but they’re not.

Dribbling behind her back through a quadruple team isn’t because of the system.

Throwing uncatchable passes to the likes of Sara Puckett, while she’s running down court isn’t because of the system.

Shooting ill advised/timed shots isn’t a system problem.

Barreling into a defender and not passing to wide open, higher percentage shooting teammates isn’t a system problem.

Cooper is indeed a low IQ player no matter how you slice and dice it. She’s been that way since high school and it hasn’t changed. The potential is SKY HIGH with her, but if she’s to take it to the next level, and if we want to realistically make a run this postseason, Kim has to get her to play smarter!!! Against good teams, we HAVE to value each possession to win, she has to be locked in offensively.

And if we really want to make things spicy, she can sometimes be a little lazy, reach a lot and get blown by and put us in difficult and unnecessary rotations in the press. 🧡🩵

You CIA ?😯

I agree. This #1/#2 recruiting class is made up of elite players that are perfect fits in Coach Caldwell system. The information you’re looking for on Deniya Prawl is available for you to take a look on YouTube at her Overtime Select games this summer. Prawl against Top 10 talent game after game was arguably the best player on the court. She plays within the system and doesn’t force shots. Plays hard on both ends of the court. The information you’re looking for on Jaida Civil it’s there in AAU footage. She does it all. Will be one of the biggest and strongest guards in the SEC from Day 1.
The twins will cause havoc on the court. Ironically I’m watching them play right now on NFHS network up 52-21 against Rutgers Prep Mikayla Blakes former HS.
The Pauldo twins beat Blakes last season. If certain fans on here get excited about other freshman and sophomore players in WBB and can’t see what the LVs have coming ain’t really nothing else to talk about.
GBO ‘solid’!

These freshmen that are coming in are not going to need much adjustment to play in the SEC. Namely Mia Pauldo she will be one of the best point guards in the SEC from day one. Mya has been defending some of the top two guards in the 2025 class and they haven't been doing so great against her. I need more information on Prawl, and Civil as they may have an adjustment period in the league. I think Mia is going to step into Spencers spot and were not going to miss a beat at point guard.

I don't think the others will take a lot of adjustment, but I look for two or three out of the portal to be on their way here to replace some of the senior losses. The portal opens one month from yesterday will be interesting to see the players that enter. I think we need a post and either a combo or 3-4 three point shooter and defender.

How do you spell the last name again? One more time please to clarify....

Pretty much everyone on the team makes those same mistakes. Boyd, Spearman, Whitehorn all have ill advised charges, as do lots of attack minded players in WCBB.

Spencer and Boyd have had more than their share of missed passes.

Shot selection has been a problem for many players on this team.

Dribbling into doubles, see Spear, Spencer, Whitehorn, Darby, Boyd, Speraman and others.

So, why is Coop single out for being "a low IQ" player

Good post. I’ve seen so many Tennessee players in the past make the same mistakes as Coop as some of the best LV upperclassmen (no I’m not talking about just one player before some folks say it) and they never received this level of criticism. I recall people this past summer saying they didn’t even expect Coop to be much of a factor due to having such limited playing experience. Now it’s as if they have to critique every single aspect of her play and on-court demeanor.
I do think when discussing Talaysia Cooper transfer it’s never put into context. SC had 6 WNBA players when Coop was a freshman. Prior to Coop freshman year outside of Saniya Rivers and maybe Raven Johnson no freshman or sophomore was in the rotation at SC during those seasons.
Saying Coop is the LVs go to player is kind of pointless. I’m sure had Coop not transferred from SC she would’ve been too good to keep out of the rotation as a sophomore but for the LVs sake I’m glad she’s at Tennessee.
I will also say this Tennessee is deep and not based on the play of one player. Multiple players have led this team to quality wins already this season.
Coop is a great fit to the system but so is Spearman, Whitehorn, Latham, Spencer, and Boyd.
Jewel Spear has put together some of the best individual games of SEC play.

Well she’s being singled out because she leads the team in turnovers I would think. Turnovers that are almost always self inflicted, which would indict a low IQ. Coop is also ball dominant and has the ball in her hands in a lot of the action, I find myself saying “WTF Coop” more than I should. She just makes a lot of low IQ plays. Sorry.

Your basketball knowledge is very low IQ. I bet your proud of that.

Yes, the plays being labeled as mistakes are what highly successful coaches understand comes with taking chances with their elite playmakers.
You can’t play it safe and expect big results.
Taking away how Coop plays the game would not help her grow as a player. CKC is molding her, teaching her, and letting her figure out how to become a great player.
You learn from the mistakes and continue to compete at a high level.
Coop is a competitor. Coop and her teammates are trying to win at all cost and Coach Caldwell knows it.
Coop is not a low IQ player. She thinks she can score every time she touches the ball. Even with her talent it’s rare to see a player have this level of hunger/determination and killer instinct.
