Wanted to go back to the foul on Tamari at 8:21 of the 4th quarter again. That foul is absolute BS. Just watched it over a few times. Rainey, a 5’10” guard cannot guard Tamari Key. So instead she doesn’t even attempt to do so, just sets up for the charge and as soon as Tamari made contact to post up she flung herself to the ground. Never made any attempt to guard her. If I’m the official I’m shaking my head and telling you to get up.
The officials have got to stop going for this. It’s not a foul and it rewards poor defense and poor strategy. At that time Florida had 6’4” Dut in the game and she was slow getting back so that’s why Rainey picked her up. Tamari is allowed to post up there. Contact is expected. Just because Rainey is a mouse in the house doesn’t make it a foul. Boston has gotten tagged with a bunch of these fouls as well. Really poor. If you don’t have a big girl who can get back and matchup that’s on you. Stop punishing the post players for the opposing teams poor defense.
Amber Ramirez also fouled out Edwards against UCONN doing this. Smart basketball play, but again one I don’t agree with. Had a very big impact on the end of that game as well. If the post player is just getting position to me that’s not a foul. If you’re between her and the basket she’s well within her right to create contact and move you. Especially if their back is to the basket. If the player doesn’t have the ball, isn’t facing the defense and is just moving into position that’s a no call at best. More than anything I think that defender should be forced to play defense. You wanna pick up the big girl? Fine, but now you have to guard her.
