Game Thread: 2023 Women's NCAA Tournament...Round of 16: Lady Vols v Va. Tech...Sat @ 6:30 ESPN2

To see VT’s players’ production, here is the box score for VT’s last game, against SDST. Amoore made 7 3’s, King made 3 3’s, and two others shot better than 50%, plus Kitley’s points and 14 rebounds.

In addition to scoring, we better play the best defense we possibly can.

Women's Basketball vs South Dakota State on 3/19/2023 - Box Score - Virginia Tech Athletics
We need to catch Amoore on a cold shooting day she is just going to be hard to guard cause she will shoot them well behind the three point line. Kitley should have a better game no Tamari to deal with. On the other hand we should be able to score inside and maybe get Kitley in foul trouble. Bad game out of both Jackson and Horston versus Toledo but everyone else stepped up big. We need forty out of those two and forty out of the rest of the team as it may take around 80 to win.

Actually it does. We did what we were supposed to do against St. Louis and Toledo. I stated, our tournament starts Saturday. Good news for you, we did what we were supposed to do, bad news for those “what about” is their season is over. Slight flex of knocking off inferior teams.

Okay, I will bang into this brick wall one more time. Your statement has two components 1) The LVs did what they were supposed to do and 2 ) the tournament starts with the sweet 16 game--which clearly minimizes the significance of the LVs first two tourney wins.

Per point 1) yes by ranking, the LVs were favored/expected to beat St. Louis and Toledo. No disagreement here.

Per point 2, pointing out that Stanford, Iowa State, Duke, Indiana, NC St., Washington St. and Texas did not do "what they were supposed do" is NOT "what aboutism." Rather, it demonstrates that the NCAA tournament begins with the opening games, regardless of how teams are ranked and that the path to the Sweet 16 for higher ranked teams is not a given in this age of parity. The fact the LVs made these two opening wins look easy and routine is a testament to their focus, preparation, and execution (Ya know coaching stuff that Tara, Kara and others in this set did not accomplish).

The fact that you can not even acknowledge the actual fact that the tournament begins when the tournament beings shows you are just a perpetual naysayer with an ax to grin.

But hey it is a free country. I support your right to grind away if that brings you some weird kind of satisfaction.

Boring!! And totally contrary to our mission as a sports fan message board!

Fair point! Fan boards are designed for premature hot takes, baseless speculation, and panicked rush to judgments (mea culpa).

Just saying, though, we could have a little less "sturm and drang" (and yeah more boredom) by being a bit more chill about the early season struggles.

Let me keep it simple. Tennessee is supposed to make it to the SS. Rafters at TBA don’t acknowledge Round 1 or 2, if I’m not mistaken. Guess that could fall under making the tournament. I don’t make the rules, so like I said it starts Saturday. I can admit the tournament starts in round 1, some just don’t get excited about beating those we are supposed to beat.

If Ohio State makes it a priority to take the ball out of Nika Muhls hands early and often, that game could be very interesting. Uconn's overall ball security is sketchy this season, especially for them and I am sure that has to do with so many players being in and out of the lineup, but, with the way Ohio State is pressuring the ball this year, they should be able to turn Uconn over. That is going to be a great game to watch.
Yea but what happens once they break the press thats the issue for ohio state

Nothing changed for you, but it has already changed as far as her contract extension.
A contract extension was going to happen regardless of either the SEC/NCAA Tournament results. A hot seat for Kellie was some sort of weird pipe dream a few posters, including our lovely trolls kept trying to get traction with. Laughable then, laughable now.

A contract extension as you know happened last year after making it to the SS, extended to 2027. Reality of todays sports, is a contract means nothing except good work if you can find it for the coaches being bought out. Too bad you won’t see this. As a reminder Hollys contract was to be up last year.

Ah, that explains why the sports media was making a big deal about the LVs making it to back to back Sweet 16s for the first time since 2015-16 and saying that Kellie is in the process of turning a fallen program around.

Unlike you it seems, the sporting world is not living in the past.

Making a big deal because we are a blue blood. But you knew that. Also, seems under your words…supposed to make it to the SS based on media excitement.

Can you imagine the line of schools to snap her up if we foolishly did not treat her right?

I do not want KJH to be on a hot seat but she better learn how to recruit top 100 recruits to come to Tennessee or her seat will get warm real soon. She can keep her seat cool with good portal recruiting. Right now the seat is far from being warm. If she get a win versus VaTech, that seat is not getting hot anytime soon and it is realistic that she will.

I'll go about half mea culpa on KJH. Happy as we are, there's still stuff to be proven

Don't know what else you need to see, clearly any criticism levied toward Harper's coaching was ill-founded and Lady Vols basketball is back baby!

If Danny White has half a brain he'll break out the checkbook for a lifetime contract before other ADs come around...

She's proven me wrong/right//wrong//right.....etc
What I know is she is one game from my personal mendoza line for this team
E8 was minimum and she should get there and has a winnable path further

Finally a sensible post from you but Danny White should go further. We need to lock in the Jolly-Harper lineage for perpetuity. So, just set it up like a monarchy where Kellie's heirs inherent the coaching throne across the generations.

Exactly. I see no reason Jackson can't go ahead and sign an early contract just so we can be assured no other university tries to steal him out from under us. I'm not willing to give a contract yet to Kylie because she appears to be leaning more toward the cheerleading side, but time will tell. She does look cute in orange.

Kitley should have a better game no Tamari to deal with. On the other hand we should be able to score inside and maybe get Kitley in foul trouble.

I think this game is where Jasmine Franklin's experience and toughness and smarts comes up big for us. She'll be leaving everything on the floor, guaranteed. I mean, for Franklin and Walker, every game could be their last. It's go time!

You are so right. Jackson definitely looks ready. It won't be long until the offers start coming. A lot of positive PR will come to the program that has the first per-adolescent head coach.

I don't know, what would you think about White letting Barnes go and Jackson runs the men's team until Kellie retires. I am sure Barnes would understand such a change would be for the greater good.
