Game Thread: 2023 Women's NCAA Tournament...Round of 16: Lady Vols v Va. Tech...Sat @ 6:30 ESPN2

This is one of the nicest interactive graphs I’ve seen. Pretty neat.
It isinteresting they give UConn better odds of making the final four than Virginia Tech or Stanford. I guess it’s due to potential match ups.
If predictions were reality how nice it would be, however, what really matters is what happens on the floor.

Looking at how Missouri beat ST LOUIS, I imagine a good statline for our lady Vols.

TN: 90
ST Louis: 48
Just remember Missouri beat them earlier in the year when they went 2 and 12, after that stretch they went 15 and 5. I think we have the talent to beat them but should be careful not to overlook any team. St. Louis has nothing to lose.

For the uninitiated, Gule has been doing that (Picking against the LV's) for years. He's certainly a LV fan, he just enjoys pulling legs.

Yeah, and I've always wished he'd come up with a more positive schtick to be closely associated with. How much fun can it actually be to be known by everyone as the old man who always picks the other team to win?

I guess everybody's different!

For reasons I've never understood, NCAA games at TBA sell less than regular season games and have even back in the glory days. Usually draws about 6 or 7 K compared to 8 ish or 9 for reg season games. The tickets are a little more expensive, they're not included w season tickets and you usually have to buy both nights. Not sure if the nights being staggered hurts.
.
I think I heard someone explain that Tennessee, like many other schools offers a variety of packages and discounted tickets and 2 for 1 offers and the like as part of the campaign to pack the arena, but NCAA games, including ticket pricing is under the control of the NCAA, and discounted tickets are not permitted. I heard this quite a few years ago so it could be dated and maybe my memory's not up to snuff, so take this with a grain of salt unless one of the insiders can confirm.

Sounds about right..

I remember being baffled by the lower attendance at tournament home games back in the day, and that was exactly the explanation given then --- people never came to the undercard game either, which was fine by me because it allowed me to move down to a better seat for that game, which was usually a pretty good contest, and the seat was better than any I ever had for a LV game

Someone should contact the folks at the Guinness Book of World Records because I am 100% certain that the time between now and Saturday at 1 p.m. EST will break the all-time record for the slowest recorded example of the passage of time, taking the psychological/emotional equivalent of approximately 6 months to span an actual 5 days.

Lawd help me!

The NCAA would also try to bilk the LVs by making the tickets higher here than planes with minimal support. Tickets this year seem reasonable. Also, some of our 2nd round games have.been at ridiculous times such as 9 or 930 on a Monday night. So these traditions also interfered with ticket sales.

All season, it seems like we've mostly beat the spread against weaker teams, and gone under the spread against the best teams. I think we'll come out swinging and win this one big: 84-57.

Talking about turnovers must be something in the water in Knoxville as Barnes team committed ten in about the first 10 minutes of their game last night. He seems to have no solution to it either as he like Coach Kellie do a lot of talking about fixing them and neither coach has been able to do it.
