Game Thread: #23/25 LADY VOLS VS. #8/8 MISSISSIPPI STATE

Wrong question. What games would we have won if Horston didn't have a turnover outbreak at a crucial time? Because her t.o.s tend to come in bunches, she's taking us out of games with better teams when we're trying to hang close.

Believe me, I'm not happy about Horston's situation. I want her well, want her fixed. Soon. But its kind of hard to deny the problem.
What specific games has she lost for us?????? Oh and it was the right question.

Serious question, why is it lately it seems that KJH is only using TK only for jump ball at the beginning and the first few minutes of the 1st and she gets benched?

1. she is getting into foul trouble and 2. She seems like she is getting frustrated and tired easily

I think she and Horston have hit the freshman wall. This week of practice and no games may really benefit these young ladies as well as get Rennia back healthy. She was sick this week which means she was already on the mend so this extra time off will help.

Lately its fouls. Fouled out at SC Got the hook early tonight due to the LVs hard and fast two fouls in the first half rule. Then KK came in and actually played well so no thought of bringing her back. Don't know the exact numbers but seems Key played alot the second half.

She is having trouble staying composed. Let’s not forget she’s only a freshman. And before someone says ‘other teams have freshman’ my guess is that it’s two fold: one Kellie is trying to toughen her up, and two TK is probably used to being taller than everyone in high school and she is having trouble adjusting to not being physically taller than opposing players. Simply used to using her size as opposed to working hard on the block, being physical and really boxing out. She will be a very good player.

Thank you! I just simply didn’t understand is all.

I agree with 100% also i think it would be wise for KJH to move Rae into the lineup to give this team more scoring. I understand the coach thinks the team plays better with her in the lineup, Not working against the top teams.

O.k. The answer is 0......
Of course we don't know for sure we would have won games or not.

What I am sure about is we're not getting chances to possibly win some games we are playing well in, like tonight. because JH suddenly gives away 3 or 4 consecutive possessions. I said before, we aren't good enough to withstand this. Of course there are other factors, but her t.o. spates seem to directly blow up our momentum.

She's averaging nearly 5 t.o.s per game, we are often losing mostly bc of points off turnovers. You do the math.

We would not be in any of these without her playing serious minutes!!!! Unless jessie is holding out on us...

Jordan giveth, and Jordan taketh away.

Listen, I just want this poor kid to get fixed. Had hoped time and game experience would help, am concerned that so far it has not. Looking forward to something different happening that will help her.

The point is there is no one else to give her minutes to...Rae is playing starting minutes, Davis starting minutes... we could give her minutes to McCoy I suppose....... Kellie has no choice!!!!

We have at least 3 players next year counting Zay that will take some burden off of Kellie. Until that time Horston has to play!!!

Kellie does have a choice about having the ball in Jordan's slippery hands so much. Should not be handling the ball when Jaz is in the game. Don't understand that
No one has slippery hands the Rae...

True, Raes hands are often equally slippery. Over half our t.o.s tonight between them. This must stop.

7 min stretch in the 2nd no baskets. Turnovers way too high, but I still had hope until the 2:43 to go in the 3rd when Jesse was the only one back and got the charge call. Great play on her part but our guards were loafing around. My goodness KK was the first one back too help. I knew it was over.
Rae played a heck of a game, Horston making freshman turnovers and it makes me question why Rae shouldn't be starting instead?

remember that Teaira McCowan was a project her first two seasons, but she learned

Okay.....
So this was disappointing because we weren’t able to put our best team on the floor.
I don’t however believe that is why we lost.
I also do NOT believe we lost because of:
Coaching
Refereeing
Lack of talent
Lack of desire
Lack of toughness
Lack of a work ethic

I believe our losses to top teams are because of a lack of experience. Experience can not be taught.
I am going to use another team to prove my point - Notre Dame

First can we all agree that Muffet McGraw is a top coach?
32 years head coach ND
77% win percent
9 final fours
2 national championships 2001 and 2018

Second can we agree that a program does not achieve those things without knowing how to work hard, have high expectations, develop tough kids?

Third can we agree that Notre Dame has a lot of talent?
Class ratings for ND
2016 - #5
2017 - #19
2018 - #7
2019 - # 11 (2 kids both 5 stars, not top 10 only because of small class)
Just as an aside these rankings over a 4 year period are similar to UT.

As of tonight before their game finished they were 8 and 14 having lost to the likes of -
Florida Gulf Coast
South Dakota State
Depaul
They lost to UConn by 24
Lost to NC State by 34
Lost to Louisville by 32

Tonight they started 2 Srs, 1 Jr, 2 So, 1 fr

But do these upperclassmen have a lot of experience? No they do not. ND graduated virtually all of their starters the last couple of years. So and Fr obviously don’t have much if any experience.

ND, barring a miracle will not make the tournament this year.

So what is ND missing? .....players that have been there before.

In fairness to our gang here I’m sure folks on ND boards are losing their minds. I’m sure Muffet has lost her edge. I’m sure their kids were overrated. I’m sure they are lazy, out of shape, lacking in basketball IQ and probably walk all over Mr Wilson’s lawn.

But I bet the same kids will be better next year and even better the next year.

I also feel absolutely positive that given more experience, our two 5/4 star Freshmen will be miles better next year. I believe that our really good sophomores, which let’s be honest did not get much court time last year, will be lights out because of the experience they are getting this year. Rennia as a Senior should be 1st team SEC and perhaps AA.

I know it is hard but we probably need to be patient. The last few years have undoubtedly used up our reservoir of patience.

But, think of this, we could be ND fans!
