Game Thread: #23/25 LADY VOLS VS. #8/8 MISSISSIPPI STATE

Guard play will decide the game. We have height but they have quickness at guard spots and I think this is the biggest weakness with our team. I think we have some excellent guards but their size makes them slower and thus we haven't been able to guard in the man to man. We play the zone very well but end up giving two or three shots at the basket because we have to play it and can't get the rebounds on the long misses. I've looked over a few games and we seldom lose because of post play it is always guard play that does us in of course added to our unforced turnovers and giving up steals. Our slowness is evident based solely on how many possessions we give up to stolen passes. Vandy had 13 steals against us how terrible is that.

I agree, it’s going to be won or lost at the guard spot today. I think the inside battle will be essentially neutral.

Our zone defense is great except for the rebounding out of it. If you’re going to play a zone like that there has to be a shot call when the shot goes up. Everyone then has to matchup and 5 players need to block out.

I’ve noticed we often have a guard trying to leak out in transition before the rebound is secure. We are way better off sending everyone to the boards and securing the rebound before we even consider transition. Once you see it’s in the hands of a teammate then you can turn and sprint.

Plus if they stick around and snag those long rebounds they can start the break themselves.

okay, here is my plan for tonight if I was the coach ---- on the first three offensive possessions, use Horston as a decoy but don't let her touch the ball --- let Massengill run the offense so the ladies get off to a good start --- also, do the same at the start of the second half

The problem i have with our guards it`s almost like they are scared to go out and guard the 3 point line. Why Key is standing in the middle so why not just go out and guard the player in front of them hmm !

Well game over looks like Rennia Davis is not going to play for some reason not going to be a very good game. Looks like she has the flu. Get well soon Rennia.

Damn! That's got to leave a mark! Incredible bad timing. Hope its a mild case, need her back asap. Could be a major deterrent to making an ncaa tourney push.

So tonight let's stay poised, play hard, play smart, do the best we can and see what happens. This turns from an opportunity to a gaunlet.

WTF??? Well there goes that big opportunity. How can I say this politely: I hope its a really tiny illness or injury and not missing a class or anything like that. Davis has been emerging as a leader, sure don't want to see that derailed.

Damnation!
Flu

We'll see if the other players can get it done not very confident but I'll watch a little of it. If it wasn't for bad luck would have no luck at all.

Son of a biscuit eater!?:’!/ We needed this one. Need to play as a team. No standing around watching and waiting for Davis to do something now for sure.

J Mass needs to have a career game in all aspects. Also needs to play the point for 30+ mins.

Oh hell Oil Can Andy already talkin bout our turnovers and the game hasn't even started yet. Guess they need a head start to talk about all our t.os.

Didn't know State hasn't beat a ranked team. I miss V Vivians when I see State play. One of my fave SEC players of recent years, a real thorn in LV sides on the court.

Jordan tried to make an unforced t.o. but the ball kept sticking to her hand. Hey maybe they DO read this board where someone suggested Stick Em!

KK alert. Please Lord, just this once . . .

Someone please tell Rae that the other players in white are her teammates and she can pass them the ball.

Yep, inevitable Wild Rae sighting. But if she only does it every 7 pts she scores thats ok.

Crucial stretch . . . Mass out, Rennie in, Horston handling. Terrifying. And our first t.o.

OK instantly Jazz back. Good adjustment.
