Game Thread: (5/4) Lady Vols 74 - UMass. 65

She will have to settle on nine or ten players and a basic starting five that plays around 30 a game with the others filling in for three four minute rests for them. At least in these games against the top teams. Everybody can play when we get to some of the teams later on that are weaker. Indiana is going to be a handful and the way we are rebounding and passing the ball a really scary game for us. The UMass guy played eight players and the three subs probably got about five minutes each.

Absolutely correct ....led by 19 points with seven minutes to go and she substituted a whole new lineup and the lead was cut to seven in about three minutes.

With good coaching from this staff this team will find out that one-on -one does not turn out well against a zone most of the time....maybe 5 years will maybe bring that point home with this staff's good coaching.
She is still trying to figure out her go to line up. Give her a break. Quite a bit of new talent on the bench. Take a deep breath. IGBOK…

Cause 18 more turnovers to their 17. Got outrebounded 49 to 45 and they were playing a zone. They didn't shoot very well and had the shots. A lot of open looks more than we got.

Miles is by far are best defense player, and I don't understand trying to run with Key and Darby in the game! We seem to not play to our strengths. Miles is a great defender, so is Key, but for everything holy, develop a game with what you have on the court. I hope Jordan is okay! She looked incredible shape, and form. Two games in a row out coached. Kellie is gambling really hard at building a team of 12, and not sure where she sees a pay off. Why did Key sit so dang much? I like Franklin but she can't shoot. We looked really bad on the boards. I hope she knows what she is doing but Suarez and Puckett, deserve minutes.

I believe one of the announcers said KJH played 15 players the first half. I know KJH took players in and outduring the second half and came up with multiple combinations. This made the game much closer than it needed to be.

Everybody played except Striplin and Edie in the game.

I'm surprised that anyone would expect a different substitution pattern from Kellie. This is what she does in order to get her players ready for December and the SEC schedule. She plays as many as possible to get them game experience for when they are needed. Done it every year she's been here. It's part of her personnel development program. IMO, this is a very good thing.

Hope Horston is okay. Thanks for Rickea stepping up along with others. This teams timing is off. The ball is being passed either too soon or too late. The intended target is not always in a good position to do anything. They are getting better and with more practices and games, they will start exploiting their talent but right now, they are not playing well as a team (IMO).

So….
1) I had forgotten how miserable it is to look at these game threads. The malcontents of the universe seem to swing by and relieve their personal frustrations.
2) The most important thing that happened tonight is a potential serious injury to Jordy. The rest of the stuff being discussed on here is minutia compared to that. I did not get to see the game. How serious did it look?

In the post game interview Brian Rice did not ask about status of Horsten or did I miss it ?
It was mentioned that Jordan got hurt, but not directly discussed. Same when he interviewed Rickea. It was obvious they were told not to discuss specifics yet, which is understandable. But very worrisome. Please, please let that poor girl be ok.

Exactly. She always does this early in the season and we always freak. Previously, the teams we played weren't as good and her players weren't all new so she got away with it more. I knew a couple of months ago when ya'll were drooling over all this platoon ball you wouldn't actually like it. She must let them get settled into some kind of rythmn. Rickea strikes me as a very rythmn dependent player and the extra mins tonight really helped her.

Jackson and Horston both need to get a lot of minutes IMO somehow Kellie needs to substitute so that one of them is always in the game. Assuming and hoping Horston ok.

Agreed, one or both of them needs to be on the floor at all times. Key will still need to play the majority of the minutes in the post but I think Franklin will come along as her knee improves.

Big kiss your way Lucy. You understand the show…😘

majority of their rebounds were off of long misses. It wasn’t like they were out hustling us around the paint

We have struggled with the long rebound for a long time. We're predispositioned to pack the paint but in the 3-ball era, there are a lot more long rebounds now that go outside the paint out of our reach. Walker has done a fair job in getting some of those but we're not real good in that area.

Franklin ONLY shot 75% from the field, but according to you, she can’t shoot! You join the LONG list of idiots on this board!! 🤣🤣🤣

With the depth on this team, there is ZERO reason for anyone to average 30 minutes/game much less having all of your starters average that!
