Dang Chattanooga is 2-11 ETSU was 1-10 besides layup practice these games accomplish what? Oh I know Emily and Rennie get to play Tess doesn’t get beat off dribble. And the starters only play 3/4 of the game and we score 120. Does anybody really enjoy these type games?

What we enjoy most is hearing a few people complaining about these games in multiple threads.

We play these instate teams as a courtesy to them. They want to play us and were glad to oblige with a game. Usually both are solid teams, but this season neither is a very good team. Seems to work out well if you want to move up in the Net rankings as Tennessee moved up four from 18 to 14 after beating ETSU by 54. Hopefully if we do the same to Chattanooga we'll be in the top ten.

In hindsight, the scheduling was perfect for this team this year IMO. Not too easy, not too hard. I particularly enjoyed that they could get a fun, non-stressful, easy win over ETSU before having a week off, and then be able to maybe even be a little sluggish and still get another fun, non-stressful, easy win AFTER a week off. I hope this becomes the holiday scheduling 😝model for future seasons.

Seems strange that anyone would object to us playing these instate teams now. Pat played them almost every season and now like Pat did were venturing out and also playing all the best teams. We have three of the four final four teams on the schedule and one that made the elite 8 so were getting it done with the schedule and hopefully will keep playing these instate teams.

Obviously you don't but guess what, no matter how much you whine, they will still play the game as long as COVID doesn't change things. Are you going to whine about every instate school we try to help in the pre-season?

the instate teams enjoy these types of games...with them they have a recruiting angle...they can boast,,"we play the Lady Vols"...

There's a money angle to playing these teams. The big state U flagship program schedules these smaller programs so they can play in front of large crowds with a large handle. They can then get paid a lot more than if they played the same game against a smaller school. It helps their programs and the flagship program is meeting a responsibility and get some wins on their record. It's win-win.

Exactly.

Remember when Holly lost her coaching debut against Chattanooga? Good times.

It was really smart to post the game thread four days in advance so we can thoroughly break down the matchups and get hyped for this key nonconference game...

Mod guidance for posting…

“This forum is for fans of the Lady Vols. It isn't for debate over the legitimacy of women's basketball or for comparisons to the men's game. If you enjoy the Lady Vols and enjoy discussing the program, this forum is for you. Otherwise, please refrain from posting. Posters who are 'trolling' and/or disrespectful risk having their account suspended. “

Why does someone who constantly trolls the team and it’s fans still have posting privileges….for years?

I can remember back with the LVs always played a brutal pre-conference and Uconn (who was then winning championships was beating the stuffings out lower caliber comp., winning by major double digit margins. Then, the common lament was that Uconn was so much smarter because these cupcake games let them work on their chemistry and execution whereas the LVs were getting beaten down by this relentless schedule.

The "truth" lies in the middle. You want some challenging games in the pre-season and some where the competitive gap is wide enough that the game can be used a higher intensity practice session. And yes, it was not too long ago that UTC was always a challenging game.

I get you love these games. 70-80 point wins. So Merry Christmas and enjoy.

Some may say that, aside from the payday, ETSU and UC get nothing from the experience except possible embarrassment. I disagree.

It's been pointed out that those teams only have one and two wins respectively this season. That also means they aren't burning it up against lesser competition, so one more loss, even by a wide margin, isn't going to be that much worse. I believe ETSU had a pretty humbling loss right before playing us.

Also, when Kellie subbed liberally, that not only gave our bench game experience but also allowed ETSU starters to compete on a more level playing field. That let them get better by playing up. An added perk is getting to play in TBA with a larger crowd than they're used to seeing. I'd say they were happy to get the opportunity.

ETSU bb men just knocked off Georgia, and ETSU football crushed Vandy this season. Can't dismiss smaller schools just due to their size. All it takes is a few excellent, overlooked players with the right coach(es) to become competitive.
