Game Thread: (7/10) Lady Vols 91 - Chattanooga 41

Darby gets burnt and blown by on defense against any power 5 program. So what if she made some 3's against some team 300 plus in the RPI and NET. I do find it surprising UT has played so well this season without Rae and Marta. Not all negative and in fact impressed so far with how UT has played thus far. However, Darby should rarely see the floor come SEC play. Her starting against Stanford or any elite team is puzzling to me.

I appreciated the coaches sending out Jessie, Kaiya, and Tamari to the presser. They were very supportive of each other, and both Tamari and Jessie were eager to compliment Kaiya's hard work and the entire freshman class. Really mature, stellar upper-classmen leadership.

In searching for the presser, also saw the episode of Kellie Karaoke featuring Jessie and Jordy. Always impressed with Kellie's rapping abilities.

Jessie is a great teammate and a great representative for the university. She's not taking minutes away from starters and those playing ahead of her. I've posted before about the challenges she's faced re: distance from home, culture changes, and a chronic medical challenge, and she's handled all those in inspiring fashion.

We'll continue to pull for Jessie to provide a deep offensive threat for the team and steady, savvy defense. Proud of her grit and determination and desire to help her teammates win.

They had a highly regarded coach who could attract talent. That is not the case anymore.

From the Chattanooga perspective, the jury is still out on Burrows, but she didn't inherit a great situation as Foster never recruited and Moore's talent dried up. Won a conference chip a couple of years ago (COVID year), but hasn't won as much as people are accustomed to.

Then on top of that, she lost an all-conference forward (Burrows said last week she couldn't comment due to FERPA laws, so guess academics), a starting guard (graduated) and a forward (medical DQ) before the season began, then were without the starting point guard and a reserve forward last night (illness).

…eesh. Thanks for ‘splaining. A lot. No wonder they seemed so out of sorts.

My redundant response - the LV coach can communicate with the media questions - but she knows her audience is fans, educated fans. If you are a public relations expert watch the post game with a pencil in your hand and mark each of many opportunities she compliments (genuine) the team, the LV tradition, in a proud manner - with reservations that she will be picky (elsewhere). Her body language is exceptional - a CO in charge, but also "loving it, the team." I would hope that players considering the LVs regularly watch same as one factor - is that a coach I would like to play for?

Take away Wynn and we are at 78% free throws tonite.

Good to see you continue to be consistent in taking negative gratuitous shots at Kellie for no particular reasons, especially so since the Stanford loss.
As much as Kaiya attacks the basket and gets fouled in doing so, she needs to tighten up her FT shooting. That would be a huge benefit to the team, as the LVs head into conference play. GBO.

To be fair we make free throws we would have won that game 😂
l like to see key let a few more offence players shot. and do not touch them if they have angel to beat key basket. just keep her hands up and other girl shoots over her more power to her. key more value on the floor than giving a few layups.

Karoline Striplin robbed of SEC Freshmen of the week to UGA’s Jillian hollingshead lol what is the criteria for these awards

They’re just scared of giving it to another lady vol. I thought she’d get it as well. Maybe they went with UGA because both Karos games were against subpar teams?

So was UGA’s lol they faced Saint Francis (PA) and South Alabama

In that case I have no idea. Especially looking at her stats. Karo definitely had a better week. In that first game Hollingshed was 2-6 with 4pts and 4 boards. Had 12 points but 0 rebounds in the next game. Karo definitely played better.

Think this team misses Horston? Despite her TOs and missed shots, she makes *ish happen. Great win, hang your hat on defense. That’s how the 2008 *ship was won. But, would love to see more than 62 points and watching the ball passed around the arc. Still so happy for a short handed win

Welcome to the SEC Puckett. Hope you get better acclimated quickly! (Guess Horston would’ve relieved some of that pressure.)
