Game Thread: (7/9) Lady Vols 112 - ETSU 58

Tennessee wins.... with Karoline Striplin going 8 for 8 Tennessee shoes 64,3%. without her they are 10 for 20 on the FT line. Emily Saunders looked good along with most of the team. As always go Lady Vols.

I propose that WCBB institute a designated FT shooter rule. No better yet, the "Karoline Striplin" rule, Anyone with that name can shoot FTs for any other player and at any time (whether in the game or not). FT woes solved. I don't know why Kellie didn't think of that.

Hilarious vid above...wonder which player suggested that, but the entire team pulled it off brilliantly. Agree with mudtown's suggestion, too!

As an ETSU alum, always pull for the Bucs, too. Glad to see them fighting despite having a really tough opening to the season. Maybe they should be reminded that Kellie's Sweet Sixteen team at MO State lost something like 7 of their first 8 before going on their incredible run.

“One of the coolest things about tonight was the countdown on the bench, trying to get Kaiya to a double-double,” Harper said. “Kaiya did not know until after the game, but the team was trying to figure out how we could get that last rebound for Kaiya. They were pulling for her over there.

“That just sums up this team, it really does. They were all really into the game until the last minute just pulling for their teammate.”

“First off, I think she (Kaiya Wynn) has a great motor,” Harper said. “You see that every time she steps out on the court. One thing that I was really excited about for her is she has had a really good week of practice. She had a couple of minutes in the Stanford game, and I thought they were really good.

“I had a lot of confidence going into this game that she was really going to be able to perform at a high level. She’s so aggressive and so powerful. Obviously, she gets in there and gets rebounds.”

“Free throws are something that I work on every time I get in the gym,” Striplin said. “It’s kind of almost second nature. If I go to the gym, I’m definitely going to get … at least I’ve got to make 10 in a row, that’s my thing. Normally, I’m shooting 50 every time I make it to the gym. I’ve just been in a lot of close games where I know that free throws matter, and I feel like if you make them when the pressure is not on, then it will pay off for you.”

She needs to become the instructor some of them are doing it wrong.

It certainly shows. She looks comfortable shooting them.

From the post-game article....

Freshman Kaiya Wynn and graduate Alexus Dye each recorded double-doubles against the Bucs. At least one Lady Vol has recorded a double-double in every game this season for a team total of 14 on the year.

The Lady Vols scored a season-high 70 points in the paint and out-rebounded ETSU, 61-27. Tennessee has out-rebounded its opponent in 10 of 11 games this season and carded its sixth game of 50+ rebounds this season and second with 60 or more.

The Lady Vols had six players in double figures. It marked the first time UT had done that since doing so against Murray State on Dec. 28, 2018. Every active Lady Vol scored at least two points and grabbed one or more rebounds.

I think Striplin is going to work herself into the rotation this season. She has D1 body and a great shooting stroke. My guess is that she is still adjusting to the speed of the college game in terms of decision making and defending but I think she is on her way to finding a role.

Striplin, at the free throw line, looks like a champion.

As pointed out by other posters, she could help some of her teammates master the art of the free throw...It seems a little more arc on the ball would help some of the struggling girls.

This was the type of game this team needed...

I missed this game too. I'll have to go back to see the replay for sure.
It's really nice to hear we (Lady Vols) won. Merry Christmas to all you Lady Vols fans.
You’re going to love watching this game! It was much more fun to watch than I expected it would be. Great way for the team and fans to begin the holidays, I’m feeling good this morning because of yesterday’s game. Merry Christmas to you, too, and our Lady Vols, and fans! 🎄⛹️‍♀️💃

Kaiya is a slasher. She has some really quick moves. Once her hands catch up with the rest of her body and she develops her outside shot, she will be a menace to opponents.

Very Talented. She has a lot to work with and she is engaged at getting better. Sky is the Limit for all this Freshman Class. In CHRIST Alone

I thought Kellie’s comments on Keyen were just fantastic. Evidently she has gathered up the freshmen like a mother hen.
I think SP said something like Keyen is the best teammate she has ever had. Quite a compliment for Keyen. Couldn’t have a better role model.
