Why is Stanford ranked so high with two losses?
Are ranked a little to high, but have wins over number 2 and 4 at the time they played Indiana and Maryland. Plus I am sure the National Championship and all but one player returning has been a factor. Another factor is that in one of the losses two of their top players were injured. I still personally think they should be ranked a little lower than where they are. They are a very talented team hopefully we find a way to beat them and that should send them falling.

How exciting would it be to knock off Stanford and be above UConn in the polls, wonder when the last time we were above them?

We should be above UConn now. They lost to an unranked team and yet still only dropped to seventh. They have 0 top ten wins and have lost two games. How they stayed at seventh is the mystery of this weeks poll.

Key should be able to handle/limit Brink. UT has the defensive backcourt to pressure their ball handlers into mistakes. If Puckett and the other fwd’s can defend the 3 UT should be in good shape. Tough matchup defensively for the Cardinal.

Yep, they do not have a PG. Jones running it mostly but that’s absolutely not a natural position for her. If we can continually apply pressure to the ball they will be flustered.

Tamari will hold her own with Brink. She’s a primary option for them and important for their inside out game. If we can limit her touches they will struggle to put points on the board and likely turn it over some.

As long as UT can shoot around 38-40% from the field and knock down some 3’s it will be a good game.

side note, if a team takes 50 two point shots and hits 50% of them, that’s 50 points. If a team takes 50 three point shots and hits 34% of them, that’s 51 points……so hitting 34% from 3 is the same as hitting 50% from 2. It’s important to hit 34% or better from 3 therefore…that’s the baseline for being effective from long range. Anything above 34% is an advantage, esp since most teams don’t shoot 50% from 2, but 34% from 3 is very doable, I think over 60 teams average above 34% this season. The great equalizer of course is rebounding which gives a team more shots and can therefore neutralize that advantage.

That's a tall order with this team...
if stanford to bigs 65 red hair girl and their 64 center starter and shooting good. key going to need green, dye, strplin or sanders to help or try a zone. green and dye move pretty good and l think strplin is better defener some give her credit stanford has a new point guard also are guards need help make hard for stanford bigs clean passes for easy shoots

Horston vs Jones and Key vs Brink are the keys to this game. Belibi/Hull/Wilson don’t really concern me as much because their more advantageous scorers than primary ones.

Lexie Hull needs to be a defensive focus. IMO, she was one of the big reasons they beat SC in the FF. She's a big, athletic, strong guard who can score inside and out, and crashes the boards. She's the kind of hard nosed player that Pat would have loved on her team.

All that but in the end....the team that's playing better will have the advantage. Stanford is gonna have to score from outside because I think our post players, who have been playing lights out the past few games, will show up ready to play. We need a focused effort from our wings and guards to make those outside shots difficult. If Stanford gets wide open threes, it could be a long game. Stanford has always been able to shoot and I don't expect that has changed. This is the kind of game where everyone needs to show up from the git-go.

Coach Sam is really trying to sell this one. Wonder how many fans will actually show up...

It might be more than you think. Whatever that # is… I live in central Alabama and I’m even thinking about making the trip tomorrow. I believe the ladyvols are going to play special and put UT back on the map, permanently! I already know I’m going to regret not being there to witness this I if decide not to go.

I think the Lady Vols are in a no lose situation except if the game turns into a route by Stanford. This is especially true if we eventually get Rae back, as a close loss without Rae signifies we can play with anyone without her but watch out if we get her back this year. Of course, it would be wonderful to get a victory. In any case, the season is early and this is not a make or break game. I hope for a great crowd not just in terms of numbers but also in terms of vocal support. The crowd for the Texas game wasn't huge but was very supportive. I believe Kelly commented after the game that she thought it was a factor. So, go to the game and be loud. I sure plan to do so.

I agree. This is an important game for our tournament resume, but it isn't make or break. There's a long way to go til March.

I keep going back and forth with game scenarios, and I’m convinced the Lady Vols are going to have to shoot a lot better Saturday than they have been (for the most part) so far this season. We could either pull off an amazing upset, or we could get drilled by 25 or more.

Saturday cannot get here fast enough for me.

I believe if the Lady Vols keep it pretty close without any really ugly meltdowns, they could lose and not take a big a hit in the area of perception. A team can still pass “the eye test” even in a losing effort. Sure would be better to pass that eye test in the best win of this young season, though! :D

Hoping this is the logic applied to Duke’s loss by nine to Sakerlina.
