Game Thread: (7/9) Lady Vols 70 - Arkansas 63

Really don't know who is going to play for them or us. If Horston can play I see no reason why we can't have a rebound edge of 15 or more. I think we have to do that and hopefully be able to at least shoot 40 percent from the field and make a few free throws. We have to control their perimeter game. If Barnum is still out I don't see them having much of an inside game. We should win the second chance points in this game. Tennessee 68 Arkansas 59.

I don’t worry about Arkansas. I just worry about us.
Can Key stay on the floor without getting in early foul trouble? Can we shoot 60 % on free throws? Can we have less than 15 turnovers? Can we shoot at least 35% from the field? If we do most of these things, we should win.

False, they've played TWO true road games, and the last one was almost a month ago. Let's see how well the pre-conference schedule prepared them for life on the road in the SEC...

I know reading and comprehending is hard for you so let’s simplify. They have played away from their home floor 4 times. Pretty lame stretch for your typical setup. Must be running out of the low hanging fruit.

However, they have only played in hostile environments two times. Yes, not a home court advantage in four games, but there is a difference between neutral courts and games on someone else’s court.

I usually let you two go at it without a word but your response this time was SPOT ON!

I know some will say ... "Well he didn't say anything that wasn't true" and to his actual credit he didn't. HOWEVER, we all know nothing can just be stated without some sort of intent or dig.

But if we are going there how did SC schedule prepare them for life on the road in the SEC? Not a knock on them just the reality any team can be beat at anytime in this league and the fact that very same poster was talking 💩 about the SEC is just laughable.

So in short very good response 😊

Obviously hard for you too. At least with Jeff, we know he is a hater……

Seems like the best thing that could happen to us right now would be a couple of weeks pause on the season. Get Rae back, get JH and Dye better, have fresh legs for an SEC run.

Today and always, this is the magic formula for us.

Not hard at all. Seems you can’t differentiate between neutral and away games and their impacts.

It’s ok. It has nothing to do with hating or fandom. Just the facts.

For you, it has everything to do with the argument. You can’t stay away from them. You said you would never reply to one of my posts again so I guess you lied.

Just the facts? Okay, The fact is that the poster said the LVs had only played 4 away games this season. He was right . Jeff said “WRONG,”. Now you want to deflect by changing the discourse. This conversation was not about you until you rode in on your white horse to rescue Jeff. Feel free to take your trolling elsewhere.

It would benefit much us like another top 11 team getting 3 games delayed in a row to let our students rest but much like Rick Barnes if they can play they will play with no excuses. I really hope conferences try to make up as many games as possible or it could get messy come tourney time.

TN wasn't playing in front of 8k plus fans cheering for them on those neutral sites games this is true but they will be playing in front of a team that averages 2,951 fans at their home games when TN has played UCF (which beat Ark at home with all their players) at their place in front of 2,819 along with Va Tech (which just took down #15 Dook) in front of 2,631 Tennessee has actually been on the road with teams with comparable numbers in terms of fan attendance. Just the facts.

Something not as factual but it is well known that TN fans travel well. We will see if that still holds true especially in this pandemic.

For me, anything not at home is road. BC they have to travel, not sleep in own beds, and play in gyms they aren't familiar with. Some players enjoy all that so it's not necessarily that big a disadvantage, but it's not home.

Sadly, in WBB the "crowd" is very rarely a factor at all. Exceptions of course for SC, UConn and occasionally us and a few others. The 1800 or so that will turn out at Arky today will not make a difference.

SEC crowds always seem to show up for games with the Lady Vols so it’s normal to see 2X and 3X the average crowds.

You have to defend three players that are very good three point shooters none is taller than 5'9" tall. Then you have Goforth and the freshman Wolfenbarger both also good from the three. So this is another game where we may see more of Walker and Miles playing together. I would also like to see Horston that will ease a lot of worries about this game. The game will be decided by how much we dominate the boards. If we can stay even on turnovers and of course shoot the ball as well as they do. No reason for us not to have a shot advantage in this game it will be a huge factor as to if we win or not. We have almost in every game brought the energy except for some slow starts. I would like to see us play defense in an entire game like we've played in a lot of fourth quarters this season. We haven't been able to extend the defensive intensity for 40 minutes very often cause when we do or if we do today we'll win this game big. Key playing smart no foul trouble and Horston even being able to be effective for 20 minutes are huge for us today. Arkansas is going to need to swarm the paint when Key touches so we should have a lot of open perimeter looks which players need to make. They can't play Key one or one she will dominate if they do. Horston and Dye should be able to score inside as well. I think Arkansas is going to be willing to give up some perimeter shots. I don't see them extending their defense. I think they feel better seeing if we can make the perimeter shots. I hope this turns into a big day for Tess, Sarah, Jordan, and others from the three I think they will get some excellent opportunities.

On the 2 home court advantage games (as you say)that they did play they handled the pressure pretty good I think. Both were win correct?

We could def use JH length and defensive ability on the perimeter. KJH said the other day its really D, not O that we miss her on. Even if she's only up for a few short periods, the change up on D from JW and BM waterbug pest style to Jordan's quicks and wingspan will help. Also her rebounding.

I would like Jordan to sit a while longer if there are any lingering symptoms which I’m sure the staff will do if that’s the case. Getting quality starting minutes for Sara will help us a lot this season. Sara, Jordan W, and Tamari will need to establish themselves early and not give a psychological advantage to the home team. Getting good play time for the reserves will be important.

Thinking is hard for some.

Or one could simply look at the Lady Vols' website to see how their record is clearly delineated:
home: 8-1
away: 2-0
neutral: 2-0

It's laughable how you've doubled down on this. What's your point other than to diminish their accomplishments?

Missouri?
IMO the refs and cold shooting by their guards was more a factor than the crowd. SC always draws an opponents biggest crowds, like we used to. But attendance is still pretty paltry. Also, most of the SC players have experience in way bigger games with way bigger crowds.

You don't think SC gets a friendlier whistle in Columbia, or the guards shoot a little better on their homecourt rims? I have zero doubts SC wins that game at home...
