Game Thread Lady Vols at (#23) Texas

Here is what would've happened if we had played the game. Rennia Davis 12 for 15 from the field 5 threes. Rae Burrell 11 for 14 from the field 5 threes. Tennessee goes for 14 threes and wins over Texas. Tennessee 83 Texas 59
that looks great......... Texas should've forfeited😒

NCAA should set up an online clearinghouse for teams looking to add games with their open dates.

That’s definitely out there, but it’s a lot more complicated than just finding opponents and common dates, there are a lot more travel issues now than there have ever been, and the costs associated with late-notice charter air travel are a factor in today’s college sports economy.

There are guarantees in a lot of contracts, but not usually in home-and-homes like this. So o don’t anticipate there being any financial exchange over the cancellation. If the game is rescheduled, you might see that, but probably just a loss for this year.

Thank you. I was afraid of that.

If it’s a loss I would assume that TX would most likely come here next year? is the home and home series being continued?

I’m honestly not sure if this was the first or second year of this contract. If it was the first year, then next year will be in Knoxville as scheduled. If it’s the second year, then the question will be if Vic wants to continue playing Tennessee. It’s a long-standing rivalry, but none of the people that made the rivalry are still in place, especially at Texas.

It would seem to me that Vic would have a lot to gain and nothing to lose by continuing the series. That is if they win some. Long time fans remember what the rivalry once was and there are still a lot of them living and actively supporting the teams.

I love this series. Now with Vic in Texas, it’s even more fun. I hope it continues.

I think the only "gain" to be had for Vic is to find a way to beat Baylor...

My thought is that there are still enough Texas fans who would like to see the series continue. If Vic comes in and, first chance he gets, eliminates a rivalry that has stood for decades, that could suggest to some longtime fans that he doesn't respect the traditions of the past enough. Kinda risky for him, so I say he continues the series -- even if he, personally, would rather not.

Texas and Tennessee is a legacy game representing Conradt and Summitt, and there's alumni who still respect that I think. It'd be weird to drop it in the absence of anything more compelling. Not to mention that I can't see any world where Schaefer would be unduly worried about Tennessee being on his schedule - I'm not hating on Tennessee here, it's just that for the immediate future Tennessee is not one of those "uh oh" games you have to circle and worry about. Given that, and given the fact that beating Tennessee is still a feather in the cap for anyone, I can't see it going away.
