Game Thread Lady Vols at Kentucky

Agree with all that. Other than the final score, there wasn't much to like about this game. We didn't play well, too many TO's, got outrebounded, and generally looked like a mess for much of the game. Even the announcer and the officials stunk more than usual.

I think there was a lot of good things from this game. Their offense looked good: 73 points on 48% shooting. Strong individual performances from Izzy, Cierra and Bashaara. Kept Harper and O'Neill in check. Road in vs a top 10 team. Kept composure at the end of the game.

This is easily their most significant win of the season.

Massengale always tries to make the sensational play or pass and most of those possessions are turnovers. She needs to play under control would help the team a lot more if she could get that in her head.

I wonder why Holly and others cannot see Ariel shortcomings

Coaches tend to look at player's performances throughout the season as a collection of ups and downs and are willing to let the player work their way through them. It is risk management by the coach-sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It worked out for Holly tonight. Plus, I think Middleton was injured or sick and didn't really have another guard option.

Good points and Middleton was not a good option against KY. She does not have the quickness and strength (yet) to hold up against the KY guards.

It was not a very good game for Ariel (the play toward the end of the half where she got her pocket picked for an easy lay-up, AAARGH!!!!). But, in the grand scheme, the 3 guard line-up did fairly well against the KY pressure and the KY guards had to respect Ariel from the outside, so they could not collapse in the paint. To, btate's original question of why can't the LV coaches see Ariel's mistakes, I am sure they do but they have to consider her overall role in the game plan.

The downside of our switching defense is that we end up with our forwards defending the opponent's guards. That is why you must switch back ASAP if you get the chance, which we don't do very often.

Kentucky isn't all that talented, really. They've got a couple of pretty good guards, and they play hard, and they are good at getting us and other teams to play at a fast tempo that is favorable to them--but they aren't exactly loaded with talent.

If we play a smart team with proper spacing, that could hurt us. I agree, I would rather have my post bodying a post player than a guard, for once its taxing, for two rebounds on miss shots.
