Game Thread: Lady Vols at No. 4/3 LSU; 7PM; ESPN2

lsu won without refs. can not say same for unconn and stanford. would tenn beat with tonight refs do not know. just like to see fair games called lsu won on their own. i think tenn finishes 3rd sec.

For all of you people trashing this team, I know that the final score is the only thing that matters, but , with the exception of rebounds and the final score, the Lady Vols statistically outplayed this LSU team. The biggest problem the Lady Vols had was one that has plagued them for years and especially during Kellie's entire tenure - turnovers. Although LSU only had one less turnover than the Lady Vols, Tennessee's always seemed to come at a particularly inopportune time. In my opinion, the players have still not learned to depend on their teammates. They too often try to dribble through two and even three defenders which almost invariably results in a turnover.

Spending some time practicing fundamentals, especially including ball control, would greatly serve this team, in my humble opinion.

Lady Vols played a great game effort-wise. Very few mental lapses or plays taken off.

IMO, Kellie should have taken a time out when lead got back to eight (if not at six). We might have stopped the momentum and possibly avoided tge unforced turnovers that allowed LSU to go back to 12. Too big a deficit to overcome without playing near-perfect execution.

We had plenty of opportunities. Missed free throws, turnovers from our best players, missed shots around the rim, and an uncharacteristic off-night from a star. Too much to overcome on the road.

We did force at least three shot clock violations on LSU, whose players at times seem to be more concerned with style points than discipline. Don't see them going very far in the tournament without a really good bracket.

I thought Pissott did a decent job on defense. She backs into the screen and feels the defense so she can stay in front of the ball handler.

Too bad we couldn't slow down Morris. She could have had a 20-point game and Horston just an average game, and we win. Just wasn't our night.

Proud of the effort. No big blowout on the bayou tonight.

I know the ladies are disappointed simply because UConn and LSU were both winnable games. Can’t wait to watch this matchup again in the semis at the SEC Tournament.
I agree about rematch in tourney really missed Key again. With the way Julian is progressing her and Healthy Key would be tough to deal with. Hope Tamari plays next year. In CHRIST Alone

I’m not going to sit here and act like it was an evenly called game but Tenn had every opportunity to win this game. I don’t understand why the offense is so predictable. LSU has no better talent than Tenn. People need to just stop saying it’s about the players.

We shot 12 FT hit 6. LSU **** 31 FT hit 23. SMH

Big disparity especially when lsu was pushing.shoving.hacking and just plain knocking players around. There is home team bias at every venue except Tennessee( men and women both). Almost like playing on the road always. RJ and JH are probably one solid bruise each. To me,though,Lady Vols have no one who looks for the open three point shooter on the wing. Guards would rather beat the ball against the floor as to pass to a wing. IMO,too focused tonight on going inside and it cost many turnovers. Even a missed shot from outside is better than a turnover in the lane.

I only care about wins and losses, I’ll take every team outplaying us every game as long as we win the game. You play to win the game.

They have better talent all around, we have Rickea and Jordan, they are better everywhere else.

We are not capable of playing sound, fundamental basketball for 40 minutes. This is a product of mediocre coaching. We
have been a very dumb team for ages. You don't have to be great or even good from start to finish--it's not that. It's not making
DUMB mistakes all the time--being lazy on defense.

I mentioned this earlier: In the first half Morris has the ball on the wing, left side of our defense. It is late in the 2nd quarter. Franklin is standing
in the paint, guarding somebody. Franklin seems to have absolutely no awareness of the fact that if Morris beats her mark and goes to the basket,
she night need to help. She should have been watching the ball AND her mark--that's what smart, fundamental defense is.

Well, Morris makes a move with her dribble, beats Walker and starts driving to the basket. Franklin is TOTALLY oblivious to what is happening on the play. As Morris is starting to drive to our basket, Franklin actually moves forward--even farther away from the basket; she seems to have no awareness of where the ball is--none---and Morris goes in for an easy, completely uncontested layup. What was Franklin thinking? Just completely DUMB defense. And we were slow to help our defenders on Morris throughout the first half, when i was watching: either nobody jumped out to help or someone was slow to come out after Morris beat her mark. We should stop playing man defense. Because we not quick and we're not smart/fundamental. Harper should have been up in Franklin's kitchen after that play. But I doubt she was.

Key maybe would have grabbed a few rebounds, but she wouldn‘t have been much of a help.

No they don’t. As adults it’s okay to critique the professionals but it’s a weak move to discredit players even those in college with misinformation that is borderline blatant lies. Everyone one that court was equal except RJ, Reese, and Horston. Morris will never look like that again this season. Kudos to her for a career game.

I can’t get excited for anymore games this season, this really put me in a bad mood.

The team gives effort for 40 minutes in front of 15, 000 hostike fans and loses a very close game agaibst the undefeated third-ranked team coached by a three-time national championship-winning coach...

and you can't get excited?

Tough fan base.

I wonder if the Lady Vols have ever watched tape of the men’s game? They are a great demonstration of how to play defense (now statistically leading the country and the best defensive stats in 20 years nationally). Also, they don’t stand around or play one-on-one hardly ever. (And are in great shape!). Their assist ratio is also one of the country’s best. Unfortunately, our ladies don’t work the ball quickly enough and then it turns to the one-on-one. Don’t think we can blame the NIL on too much. It’s more about getting the right athletes , fundamentals, and court smarts. Other teams do it. The ladies don’t seem to be able to put together a complete game, the rotation is not always aligned with the competition on the floor. Just my opinion. Love the lady Vols for years!!

Flaujae was pretty terrible offensively but she really made things tough for Horston. I thought Horston would eventually get going but kudos to Flaujae. Her defense was outstanding. Proud of the team fighting back. The press made LSU uncomfortable. LSU gets turnover prone at times, surprised it wasn't used sooner.

The worst I can see us finishing in the SEC is third. There is still a pretty significant gap with the top 3 teams
