Game Thread: Lady Vols at No. 4/3 LSU; 7PM; ESPN2

I’m not going to sit here and act like it was an evenly called game but Tenn had every opportunity to win this game. I don’t understand why the offense is so predictable. LSU has no better talent than Tenn. People need to just stop saying it’s about the players.
We have starters with zero and 6 points. Walker pumping in 19 helped for JH off night. Took pressure off Jackson, so yes it’s about the players as they had one drop 31.

The team gives effort for 40 minutes in front of 15, 000 hostike fans and loses a very close game agaibst the undefeated third-ranked team coached by a three-time national championship-winning coach...

and you can't get excited?

Tough fan base.
I can’t get excited about losing, and trust me the team doesn’t either.

There is smart, fundamental effort and dumb, poor fundamental effort. There's a big difference.

Tennessee players give them a chance to win every night in the SEC. They did their part tonight. Everything else speaks for itself.

Seeing as this program was once a proud national power, and is still fully capable of being a national power, there is no reason for this fan base to get excited about losing to anyone.

The standard here should be to compete for championships, especially for a coach in her fourth season when she’s had plenty of time to put together a championship roster.

????

Hard to win if the opponent outplays a team. That's just...logic.
Yes they are the better team, I’m talking about the people that said we should be excited because it was close. I’ve played basketball and never have I been excited about a loss, you play to win and if you lose u will be in a bad mood, at least that’s how it was for me.

That's fair. I wouldn't think any of the real fans would use the word "excited" to react to a loss. I should have focused on the "bad mood" aspect.

I thought you were implying that you've just given up on the team when you said, any more." Seemed to indicate pessimism about future games, whereas I thought the team bounced back well from Thursday's loss.

How many coaches won a championship within their first four seasons at a school? We'll wait.

I haven’t loss faith as long as we have Rickea and Jordan, they just might click together at the same time and have a magical run.

Make no mistake: Our brand has already lost some luster; we haven't been to a Final Four in, what, 15+ years. And there is more competition
than ever.

Your best players have to show up in big games--and, unfortunately. Horston has been terrible--4-15 from the floor and the worst +/- on the team for the game. We don't have the quality depth for her to be lousy. It is amazing how utterly erratic she is.

Also, why has Hollingshead only played 17 minutes? I don't understand Harper. I presume she got 2 fouls early in the game and seemed to sit out
pretty much all of the 2nd quarter. But she's only got 3 fouls at game's end. She should have played more--lots more.

LSU won this game at the free-throw line---31 FT's vs. 12. Might be some officiating issues there--but mainly we don't move well defensively, we don't help well, we don't read the game well, and so players are out of position a lot and commit fouls. We won't beat anybody solid/good this year because we're a b-a-d team defensively.

Turbo, I would play Hollingstead until she fouls out, then go to Strip and Franklin.

You think Harper's going to put us in a position to a championship next year? Year after? Year after that?

I guess we'll have to wait and see, won't we?

At least, after this season is over. We might win it all this year.

And that, or any other success under Kellie's watch, will be extremely infuriating to a certain contingent of cretins.

Now, that is a factually correct post.

LSU is a very good team. CKM is an excellent coach with three NC trophies.

However, we played well enough to win. Walker played the best game of her career. Proud of her. Powell needs more confidence and reps. Wish she was a bit taller but that's unfair to her. She plays extremely hard.

Foul shot % hurt us tonight. Hollingshead, Pucket, Walker and Jackson were uncharacteristically inconsitent.

Jackson and Horston's turnovers in fourth quarter may have settled the game. Those players wanted the ball fed to them on the low block. Our primary ballhandlers were not big enough to see over LSU defenders forcing Jackson and Horston to try and get to the block on the dribble. Need to reassess that tactic.

We still struggle with player movement and ball movement. Some of that( I think) is because our smallish point guards struggle with making passes to the wing hince to much dribbling.

I looked at CKM's bench coaches and saw faces that have been around the SEC for thirty years. LSU is committed to women's basketball. If I was CKH, I would hire an offensive analyst to assist with our offense. Coach Staley's first National Championship was won with the former head coach of Vanderbilt sitting behind the bench advising on offensive sets.

After the UConn game, some one posted "We are a good team playing a very good or great team. We have improved and will do well in the tournament." I smiled. But after tonight I think that's a fair assestment.

I just feel relieved. We really needed this to be at least competitive, and there for a minute, I thought we could actually win. Impressed that they came out focused, not intimidated by the crowd, in fact took the big crowd right out of it the first half. Good game plan on (She's No)Angel. I thought there was great effort throughout. Also great glasswork first half.

Jillian should have played much more! I'm very encouraged by her progress.

Poor Jordy. The girl with the curl. Just an average game fm her and we probably win. What surprised me most is she only got 3 rebounds. Can't remember the last time she got that few. But fortunately a career night from Walker made up alot of the slack and kudos to JW. I'm sure she'd rather it had happened with a win, but she was awesome.

Really glad to see RJ have such a nice game, and in spite of the late t.o.s she really did. Sort of took over for awhile. 17 pts on 8-14 shooting, 8 rebs, 5 assists and a block in 37 mins. However, she has made about 6 straight t.o.s on that spin move we all know is coming by now. I think she's starting way too deep on that, and starting out too slow. I'd like to see her make quick sharp cuts more, also use the pull up more. I did like that they brought her deeper late in the game to post up. Overall, it's great to have RJ back in the starting lineup and playing this much, she seems more in a rythmn. And I'm sure ahe's licking her chops for another romp thru the lesser SEC. By March, she should be primed and ready to go.

We have to win out in the SEC, except SC of course. We'll see LSU again in the SEC semis. I'll actually look forward to that.

Oh and, I'm really glad we're so much classier than LSU. They do truly reflect their coach.
