Striplin has to have to right type matchup. That is usually not available against the better teams. She can't go up against Reese, or the UConn posts, or the SC posts. She can be effective against Bama, Florida, Vandy schools with inside players of their caliber.Agree with that, but when we lost Tamari, Jillian wasn’t near the player she is now, and we needed Striplin at the 5, and she was playing better than Jillian at the time.
I think they were thinking that Horston and Jackson would get forty. I believe they were expecting a huge upward performance increase from Puckett and Key was worth 10 or 12 a game as a senior. Hollingshead was considered a high quality recruit at Georgia appears she is just now getting there. Franklin of Mo State is an AA type player. The one playing at Tennessee is a good player not that player she was before the injury. What was thought of everyone else is hard to determine not a lot of talent after the ones I mentioned. I don't think anyone thought they would be as bad a defensive team as they have shown. They have their moments but never can go 40 minutes other coaches always determine their weak links and exploit them to a high degree. It occurs to me that the #5 ranking was way too high. The team is offensively and defensively challenged against good teams. Someone commented that with Key guarding the rim, defensive issues were overlooked.
Offensively, TN will score 40 points regularly in all games. However, the required additional 30/40 points needed against good teams is a struggle and is usually unsuccessful. Example = Uconn where 27 were scored instead of 30/40. I haven't looked at the box score but I am guessing that 15 were scored against the 30/40.
I will say this, I am sorry, for the third time, I would play Hollingstead until she fouls out. Of course, rest her, but she has very high potential.
Not sure how many, I've seen two or three. Refs always giving them that talking to. But hey, works for them.Do we know how many technicals has been called on LSU this season anyway? Yeah, they are all about showtime, but I don't think that necessarily translates into additional calls by the refs.
I think fouls are why she was afraid to start her last night. Nothing explains not starting her in the second half.ride Jill until the game is over or she fouls out.
She's at the 5 bc she's our tallest remaining player. I like to think of the possibilities of her at 4 and Key at 5 next year.BINGO! I don’t understand why she’s at the 5! She’s undersized at that spot and it’s clear as day!
Karo will provide valuable minutes the next batch of games. I hate the way it worked out for her last night, quickly getting roasted then pulled. Had to hurt. She'll bounce back with better matchups. She can be effective against Bama, Florida, Vandy schools with inside players of their caliber.
Ya think? Everyone got fooled though, and the media who voted us that high will not make that mistake again soon,t occurs to me that the #5 ranking was way too high.
One of her coaching faults that she better correct in a hurry.https://www.knoxnews.com/story/spor...harper-should-want-back-lsu-loss/69826852007/
Apologies that this is behind a paywall. Hopefully someone can help me out and post the full article.
However, the gist is that Cora is calling Kellie out for not calling a timeout when LSU went on the game ending 12-0 run in the fourth quarter. She brakes down exactly what happened and notes, in each instance, how Kellie did not call a time out. I’m happy that a media member is directly addressing the atrocious coaching decision in this aspect of the game specifically.
That’s my thing, why isn’t she asking her at the presser? Nevertheless, I’m sure this article will get her attention.Cora tweeted a criticism of not calling a t.o. during the game as well. Apparently she's on board the magical time out train. Wonder why she didn't ask Kellie post game? I hope she will, been wondering about the no t.o. trend all year. Rick Barnes doesn't use them often either.
You know Maria asked her why the players looked like they had their feet stuck in the mud on defense and she looked shocked a minute and then said she had no idea. That is the toughest question I heard a reporter ask her this year. That’s my thing, why isn’t she asking her at the presser? Nevertheless, I’m sure this article will get her attention.
Actually, that Cora's asking at all is a miracle. Dan F would never, ever have. Obviously it's a deliberate decision on the part of KJH, I just wonder the philosophy behind it. She's not the only one. That’s my thing, why isn’t she asking her at the presser? Nevertheless, I’m sure this article will get her attention.
It’s not about substitution patters, it’s because we have a flawed and limited roster. The eight losses are on Harper scheduling. Just a few teams in the country that wouldn't have eight losses with that schedule. She decided to go big and it backfired. She is responsible for a lot of the reasons it backfired with the substitution pattern and letting players get away with too many errors during games. If she had won half of those games we wouldn't be hearing near as much complaining now.
Having a 6’8 Senior Center, in Tamari, was a big part of that #5 ranking. Now, we have recently lost to 4 of the top 5 teams in the country, with #1 still to play, and even without Tamari, we have been very competitive in 3 of those 4 losses, enough that we could have won those games, and instead of our fans being encouraged, we are angry, because we are Tennessee and Pat coached here, and we deserve to win, plus, we were highly ranked before the season began. It occurs to me that the #5 ranking was way too high. The team is offensively and defensively challenged against good teams. Someone commented that with Key guarding the rim, defensive issues were overlooked.

Every game is different, if UConn shot the way they did against Villanova against us we would have won the game.If that is your opinion fine but I could take a team like LSU or Duke and I think they lose to UConn, Stanford, Indiana, Ohio State early in the season when they had Levy, could very well lose to UCLA and Va Tech. and Duke could lose to LSU and vice versa. The only one you might take out is Gonzaga who beat Texas so they are not someone to be taken lightly. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but they need to play the schedule first and then if you’re not SC, Stanford, or UConn see exactly where you are.
Key wouldn’t have made a difference, do u think she can guard Angel Reese? We don’t believe in moral victories, and I never go into a game thinking they will lose.Having a 6’8 Senior Center, in Tamari, was a big part of that #5 ranking. We definitely had Geno and Kim worried, probably Tara, too. So, maybe the #5 ranking was not way too high.
I think Kellie continues to play Sara and Striplin, or maybe someone else fans disagree with, because we may need them in the tournaments, or if we lose someone for whatever reason. It worked when Sara made the big 3 (while Horston was out), to help win the Missouri game. It worked last year when we lost 4 players.
We all have our opinions about our team’s play, and our Coaches’ decisions. I do, too, and I agree with some of the criticism. I absolutely want Rickea and Jillian in the game. We fought hard against top teams, and almost won. We have so many fans of other schools or sports, posting here, and when we lose, they come out of the woodwork, and say get a new Coach. They have ulterior motives.
Our team and Coaches are still fighting to win, and could probably use some fan encouragement, especially when they have shown we are so close to beating the acknowledged top teams in the country. The tournaments are coming, hope we fans support our team.
Hollingshead is good but she needs to learn to pass the ball back out instead of forcing shots up with double teams, she does this every single timeIt occurs to me that the #5 ranking was way too high.
