Game Thread Lady Vols at Notre Dame

I may been the only one that thinks we beat MsSt like we did last year! I just don’t see them being a problem. I was thinking before this 4 game stretch started that the only team that was going to give us a problem was Texas A&M.

MR has to keep McCowan in check. If Tennessee needs to double team her, I think MSST will win. If MR can effectively play her 1-on-1 and cut down on open perimeter shots, I think Tennessee wins. MSST should not be able to stay with Tennessee on the boards with their small lineup. I don't think Vivians is able to be more effective on the boards than she'll need to be vs. Nared.

I think Tennessee wins, but it will be a close, high scoring game.

A lot of folks keep talking about ND has a short bench and that is true. They play 8 and 7 normally with 10 minutes or more.

However, TN also has a short bench with about the same as above.

It could be that Hayes and Green are more productive than ND's top 2 off the bench.

Should be an exciting game to watch and hopefully the refs with call it both ways.

I think if we control Vivians we win. If MR cant handle McGowan with physical play we will have a thriller!

I'm worried about MR defense in general. Hillsman went off on us when we lost, and she isn't particularly impressive. What happens when we face Wilson and McCowan??

We hope Russell can cancel out their bigs production with her own and hope the rest of the team can produce. Hillsman and Russell were essentially a wash and cancelled each other out. Will Nared keep up with Viviana? Will our point guards as a whole out do theirs? Will meme and rennia produce more than Schaffer and Johnson?

Hopefully Ogunbowale will continue to shoot 7 for 18 like she did against Boston College. I welcome her taking a lot of shots if that is the result.
Russell guarding Sheppard is my main concern for the game.
The game will be like all others when you have this much talent on the floor. The team that rebounds, gets to the line and limits turnovers probably wins.

Last year the game shifted when Nunn entered the game and we went with a large line up. Scored on consecutive baskets based on putbacks. They dont have the size or the athleticism to match up with us for rebounds. I'd like to see Green ans Russell get some time together but most importantly we have to guard the 3 point line. I would also like to see us pressure the guards as much as possible. They only have 3 and no true point guard.

I think Coach H.W and staff should look at the film and see what Louisville did, And that`s face guard and put ball pressure on Marina Mabrey.

Lots of talk about Ogunbowale and Shepard but don't sleep on Jackie Young! She's a very strong guard and a matchup problem if you don't defend her correctly she could burn you. In ND's blow out agaisnt Louisville she was the only bright spot with 23 tough points! It should be a great game though!

Watched some highlights of ND's last game. Mercedes may have trouble with Sheppard, she's a big body that seems to move better than you would expect. Afraid she might bang Mercedes around.

We do that and I believe we deserve a #2 spot behind Louisville if they pulls off the UConn upset.

I feel like there's a lot that will be happening before UConn and Louisville play. Especially with the teams that are ranked ahead of Tennessee. With Tennessee sitting at #6 there's literally about 15 games for those top 6 teams that could shake up the top 6 rankings.

1. UConn still has to play South Carolina before they play Louisville. So UConn could lose there.

2. Baylor has to play Texas, West Virginia, & Oklahoma State between now and when UConn plays Louisville.

3. Even if Notre Dame beats Tennessee, which wouldn't be major because they are already ranked ahead of them, they would still have to play Florida St. & Duke before UConn plays Louisville.

4. Louisville also has to play Florida St. before they play UConn.

5. Mississippi St. also has to play Tennessee, Missouri, & South Carolina before Louisville plays UConn.

6. Not to to mention Tennessee has to beat Notre Dame, play Mississippi St., beat TAMU this time around, and fight off a surging Georgia team before UConn plays Louisville.

So Tennessee has to not only win out between now and then, they need Louisville to win out, and I think they would need Baylor to drop a couple games, and Mississippi to lose not only to them, but someone else in order to be ranked #2.

We are a two seed that is clear weather we lose to notre dame or ms state two 1 seeds , Our sos will get better as we move on .

I think a 1 seed is possible if you beat Miss St. and win the SEC tourney because of your SOS. Baylor looks like they will win out but I'm not sure if they get a 1 seed because of their SOS. As of today yes a 2 seed but come end of the season I think a 1 is very possible.

To me this game is a tossup. Both have a good starting 5 with Tennessee having possibly better quality depth. A key will be guard play and London may be the difference maker.

Notre Dame looks very sluggish.. I don’t know if they will be able to keep up with UT for 40mins! We haven’t even played Hayes yet!
