Game Thread Lady Vols at South Carolina

We're not losing because of our guard play. We're losing because their big players are having a field day. Abiam, Welsch, and Wilson are 18-29, and they're +10 on the boards.

And now Coates is heating up.

Tennessee has to be credited for fighting and their effort, but Graves and Burdick are getting killed down low trying to guard those giants AND carry the team offensively. They have been warriors!

Middleton just can't play. Doesn't matter what the reason is, confidence or athleticism, she is just a huge liability.

Moore can help and Dunbar could be used for her skills in spots.

That's three more minutes of rest for somebody. Middleton or a tired Reynolds standing around and getting beat for baskets four times?

Just too many injuries for Tennessee
The amount of resolve we have shown has given me hope for the tourney

I see this game as a long-term changing of the guard. South Carolina has become the class of the SEC and I don't see anyone doing anything to change that anytime soon.

Lol. Why would it be any different from you?

I don't keep up that much with the women's game, but next year's lady's team should be very, very good.

Lets keep it in perspective though. I'm not trying to poop on South Carolina but this is the same team UConn throttled by 20+. They and the rest of the SEC are still trying to play 1990s style women's basketball. There is room in he conference for an offensive minded coach using the Uconn guard/passing mode of offense to dominate even South Carolina.

Even five years ago, there's no way Wilson and Coates would've stayed home. This is all Staley.

But let's not make her greater than she is. Yes she kept the talent in state but she's not going into other states and getting great talent.

I think it is the officiating that keeps this from happening. The officials here turn ever game into a rugby match. When a phantom foul is called and a mugging isn't you get more advantage from mugging the other team than playing a technically superior game.

I'm sorry IDC what anyone says....this would be a totally different game with Izzy. I know that's water under the bridge but I really hate how they're beating us on boards without our best rebounder! Rebounds have been the difference in the game....that's it....IMO, Holly has coached a damn good game to be without her best player! I'm not giving up on this year but its going to be tough without Izzy to beat any top teams, that's just reality. Next year will be interesting.....no doubt in my mind we will be singing a whole different tune!!

This^^^, defense can keep you in a lot of games, but you must have offense to be a force.

I am just really, really unimpressed with what Staley has done with all her talent there. She should have blown us out, and UConn blew her out so she really doesn't have anything to hang her hat on as far as showing any coaching chops.
