No, it's not. Carter was so inefficient that she clearly hurt her team. If you don't have as many points as shots taken, then you've hurt your team on offense.
So you're under the impression that TAMU should have won by 10+, had it not been for great defense on Carter. I am not opposed to others opinions. I can buy that. But since she shot so poorly is your final determination that they won on the free throw differential alone? Also, im assuming your metric only factors in FGAs as shots but includes made free throws in the points section?
Actually, that is what's debatable. Carter shot way below her season average and was incredibly inefficient. Whoever played d on her played very good d.
I don't use season avg. as stated previously. I try to use what DI coaches use in their analytics which is the last 6 games because I want to see what they see. I did only used 4 this time because that was what was readily available on the TAMU website at the time so that could cause a bit of a discrepancy.
Looking at the traditional last 6 game stats she avg 20.5PPG, 5.5 Assists, & 3 Rebounds per game. She shot under 30% vs Tennessee and over 40% on avg vs the previous 6. So while Carter may have been inefficient % wise
she still got her numbers. Which was my point. I was more concerend about reducing her attempts to make it harder to get her numbers. This goes right along with the post I made last week about defense starting
before the player gets the ball and not after. Because based on your metric she was 1 made basket away from being efficient vs South Carolina (where she was able to score 36) even though many on this board have called that game for her wildly inefficient & selfish because she took 37 shots. This is why I look beyond a % and at analytics by player.
I suppose if you feel like they can't stop her then that's different. I still feel like Carter getting her numbers and Meme (as well as those that were subbed in for her) not getting theirs had more of an impact on the game. Carter played an inefficient 44 minutes and scored 21 points. Jackson & Hayes had an even more inefficient 44 minutes and scored 1 point. I totally see your point though, I just look at the game differently.
I don't know what the specific coach given analytics are for Tennessee or TAMU players is but for example I do know for a fact that Crystal Dangerfield's staff given analytics goal is 20 with the formula being Points + Assists - Turnovers must = 20+ I think it's just interesting and I honestly appreciate the good WCBB talk, even if we never agree.
