Game Thread Lady Vols at Texas A&M

Rankings notwithstanding, TAMU is no slouch. Best PG in the SEC, a dangerous shooter, an athletic rebounder and defender, and a dominant post. They are better than their record. I think that they are a tougher matchup for Tennessee than Miss State.

Losing sucks, but they lost by 3 points in OT on the road to a very good team. Tennessee was a FF caliber team before this game, and they still are after losing.

I didn't say aTm was a slouch. I said the LVs should have won this game, especially at the end when the LVs had the clear depth advantage and aTm was missing their shots.

A L is a L. The LVs had every advantage at the end, and they couldn't close it out. Now they have the opportunity to learn from a hard L and become a better team for it. IDT they're a FF team now. I think they can be... but they have a lot of work to do. Maybe this was the wakeup call.

I told my friend after Evina fouled the three-point shooter and then made all three free throws, "If I were Holly I'd take her out -- SHE'S RATTLED AND A LIABILITY right now."

That she was so nervous that she threw the ball away at the end was not a big surprise to me. Evina was wound waaaaay too tightly for that play.

I'd have put KD in. It was Dunbar, after all, who was the only person in the timeout huddle begging everyone to NOT FOUL A THREE-POINT SHOOTER!

I feel like Dunbar would have had a cooler head in that situation. Now Westbrook's confidence has taken a huge hit.

put KD in? 🤔🤭

Westbrook will bounce back. Trust & believe.

Someone mentioned KD coming out after hitting a three. What about Davis going off and hitting about three or four shots in a few minutes and sitting on bench in overtime??? Love Greens contributions tonight. But should have had Davis or KD in on last play.. just in case the play does not work you have shooters to give you a chance???

All I'm saying is I disagree that TAMU was the weakest team in this 4-game run. Lowest ranking, but they match up better with Tennessee than a team like ND or Miss State. They have size and balance.

I'm not pencilling Tennessee in as a FF team.yet, but I still think they've shown enough this season that they are a legit threat to make it that far.

What if I told you in Oct. that 16 games into the season with 3 freshmen starting we would be 15-1 with our only loss by a point in OT on the road at A&M?

After where we've been I'll take it.

Keep practicing ladies, great things lie ahead.

Exactly!🙌🏽

I'll be happy when we win again and all the nega vols go back onto their holes until the next loss. It's like they are spring-loaded in their little jack in the box just waiting for a loss so that can show some whining immaturity. Well, enjoy the loss. You haven't had anything to cheer about until now.

You may be right, but I still think Miss St will be a tougher game than aTm should have been. Agree to disagree. If the LVs put in the work and tighten up some things, tonight will be just a bump in the road. No reason they can't get back to winning at SCAR.

Exactly. They were just chomping at the bit for a loss. Not ONE WORD of support or encouragement for this team thus far - just waiting for a loss so they could come out and spew their crap. Sickening.

Lack of effort and plain dumb decisions, along with some very bad calls and laziness on the boards and defense.

Had the game won in OT, but was determined to blow it.

Why celebrate a players injury? That's classless man and I don't know why I expected more smh.

I hope you’re talking about from that specific poster and not all of volnation. I personally have defended Dawn on here and have been complimentary of her and her program.

Please don’t let a poster or even two ruffle your feathers (get it ... feathers 😁) I wish her a speedy recovery because she is a hell of a talent! I wouldn’t want anyone wishing that on our players.

You have plenty of game tape and if this team is competitive as a coach you have this in your back pocket when you need it! I didn’t understand why Jamie wasn’t initiating the offense she can make some great passes (as well as Evina) but I really believe she will grow from this.

Your feelings hurt? We're not being negative about our team but we're showing what's called "positive criticism" or "critique" of our LVs team be it good or bad...it's to be taken w/a grain of salt.

Absolutely not VA Vol. I know your one of the posters here who have shown nothing but respect! I appreciate you wishing her well (it was called a sprain) but I think there's a possibility that she plays Sunday. The injury didn't look that bad.

Well thank ya! And those ankle rolls are just ughhhhhh!!! Because every little tweak sometimes just bothers it. But tape me up and let em roll. Honestly, with treatment she could be ok but prolly just sore. It’s like the days or so later when you feel it. May affect her mobility or the game and adrenaline push her through! Regardless I think Dawn will do what’s best for the player...

Now wit that said I can’t wait til TAMU comes to Knoxville and we can hang an L on them!

Personally, I feel bad for A’ja. Injuries suck.

I also want them to be at full force when we beat them on Sunday!

I really do feel we will bounce back from the A&M loss.

Thank you! I was rattled! I’ll fix it! 😩

Shoot it’s ok! Now Asia Durr might have stirred a hornets nest because they put a whoppin’ On ND!

Honestly I think when Rennia says ok... I’m scoring now you can like it or love it! Because when she gets that smooth stroke going just get her the ball.

Here is an idea. Try drawing up an end of the game play that you have worked on repeatedly since the beginning of fall practice. You know, a play the players would know how to run with their eyes closed because they have practiced end game situations.

Yes, Lawd!

Yeah I've experienced them a lot in my days! Hopefully treatment and a ice pack will help! Looking forward to Sunday regardless! Will there be any Vols fans making the trek to Cola? I would love to meet some new frenemies. Anyways Good luck to you all (except Sunday of course).

Yeah me too. Rennia is insanely talented...so athletic. She’s a special player and I hope the comparisons to Holdsclaw have not been to much pressure for her. What a compliment, though!

When did she get hurt, I looked and she played 36 minutes tonight.

I wonder what the actual plan was with the last play.
Surely, the one girl wasn’t told to dribble once and then pick it up.

I just finshed watching this game and it just looked like Tennessee couldn't really get comfortable. TAMU looked very comfortable running in transition or setting up their half court plays. Tennessee can get so in a hurry to run and get buckets in transition that they either turn it over or take a wild shot. You can tell they have worked on some things in the half court but they just aren't comfortable and they need to get there because the season is half over. There were a few times where players were running into each other, or not filling the lanes, or just a half step slow to cut through the lane, or pass. What must be conflicting for them is when Holly says run.

I wonder what drills they do for this in practice because I noticed that the spacing seemed a bit off for some players. I'm not saying don't run but be mindful of the line ups when you say that. There is a right way to run a fast break and certain line ups do it better than others for the LVs. The commentators said Holly said run and then turned around and said Russell isn't getting enough shots in this half... well which game plan are we doing because Mercedes isn't beating Davis or Hayes or Nared up the floor and Westbrook is usually the facilitator there.

I made a comment a few weeks ago about ND losing to UConn because they missed 10 straight shots in the final quarter vs a worthy opponent in a tight game. At that time I said when have you ever seen that happen and that team win. Well it happened today. It's unbelievable that TAMU missed 18 straight (I'm going to look at the play by play docs to verify that because I still don't believe it) and I don't think they were ever even down by double digits. They didn't look panicked or under pressure at any point. They basically lulled the LV to sleep. All in all the I think what hurt Tennessee the most was their discomfort running a half court offense (certain line ups especially) and Meme playing 30 mins without scoring. Everything else looked about even.
