Game Thread Lady Vols at Vanderbilt

I think down the road we may be in trouble with depth. We basically have 3 bench players(not counting Harris).

Middleton - Can dribble and pass the ball, but limited offensively and defensively against all teams except cupcakes.

Dunbar - Still limited by the foot injury??

Nunn - Could end up being the difference we need, but is she limited by injury also??

Harris - Project - All games will probably be close the remaining of the season, especially with the starters being up and down, so basically no minutes.

The sad thing is we have about the same talent and depth as UCONN, but the difference is night and day with the offense, defense, fundamentals, confidence and of course coaching.

Dunbar just isn't at the same caliber as the level of competition she's playing against. She understands her role, and that's to give breathers when necessary, and to knock down treys (which her % has been dismal this season to be honest.)

Harris was a pickup to give us extra coverage in the post if injury was to occur.

I agree with the previous poster in that Middleton doesn't always need to score. AS long as she is distributing, and taking care of the ball I'm fine! Any additional offensive output we get from her is an added bonus.

Very impressed with Jreynolds. Someone must of lit a fire under her ass over the break! Just hope it continues to burn brighter!

if you watch the game it was never really in jeorpardy . And this why i say everyone can not be a coach . Middelton does not have to score all the time her job is to play solid defense hit open threes and mid range and run the offense yes her shot was off but she had good looks. Nunn had 6 points in 6 minutes that is huge. Bench is not always bout scoring you can affect the game in other ways

well said

Agree Alexa brings a spark whether she scores or not. I watch her on the bench and she is always cheering and greets everyone with high fives when they come in for a time out or exit the game. She moves the ball and is always all in. Lex is special.

Yes she and the whole bench are great cheerleaders and encourage everyone. Alexa plays hard and is a decent shooter and has hit big shots in the past. Usually the better competition causes her problems. Great motor and sometimes gets so pumped up it effects her game.

Agree - the whole bench is great at encouraging the team. Dunbar is one of the most enthusiastic presences that I love to see as well. I have been noticing their little huddles and talking on the court a lot more, it seems like, and encouraging each other on the court a lot more than they were earlier in the season. Certainly, they need to do a better job hitting their shots and watch those trick passes - but this team we're seeing now has a much better chemistry than the team that started the season. Hopeful we see more! 💙🍊🏀

I have advised her that letting the game come to you and not trying to force it to, is a sign of growth.

I told A\M several times that "in a 5-6 game span, you most often will have, 1-2 outings better than your averages, 1-2 below average and 3-4 within a few digits of average. (For all averages, pts, steals, etc.)

Growth is understanding that this will happen and that you have to focus on what is working that day and "test" the aspects of your game, every now and then, to see if you are back on track yet with a particular aspect you may be struggling with.

I fell asleep before halftime.... didn't know who won till logging on a few minutes ago. lol

moving furniture and boxes is hard on old folks...

I thought it was great that they got this road win in a tough gym that has notoriously given the lady vols shooting problems over the years. It was good to see tennessee not completely fold after Vandy made adjustments. They have a lot of momentum going into the msu game..

Tennessee, in spurts, looked like a legit top ten team, but they have some things to clean up. Ill also mention that the perimeter defense has improved in these first two SEC games.

this team is about as good as it was when it lost last. no need to get your hopes up.

I think their last loss was a blowout to baylor. If they played the way they played against Baylor, they would have lost to both kentucky and vandy.

The Baylor loss was embarrassing and abysmmal, but that loss is behind them and they have to keep looking forward and continue to rack up those Sec wins

I get it. Sometimes shots just don't fall...as I said she is special. Just love her! 💙🍊🏀

While I don't think they are where they want to be yet, there is quantifiable improvement at all positions. They are getting it and it will be interesting to see how they play on Sunday.
