Rennia Davis better be sayin’ “bullsh!t” to that prediction, and then she better go out Sunday and take care of business. Assert!
Should be a great game. Be interesting to see the Head coaches make adjustments. Perimeter and help defense will be key. I would also like to see Horston try some pull up jumpers instead of driving it into the teeth of the defense.

I really think we are the more talented team but that doesn't get you a win. Of course turnovers, offensive and defensive rebounds and shot differential will probably decide it. This game could come down to who makes free throws and some of our players are still weak at the line.

Doesn't this usually decide the winning team??

I expect WVA will clog the middle and force us to shoot outside. That has been a recipe for opposing teams for six years or longer. We need to shoot a good percentage and shut down WVA's outside game. Hopefully we can stay out of foul trouble down low.

I think the opposite. Tennessee's strength is their perimeter players. WV will play Davis, Burrell and Horston tightly. WV has enough size inside that they don't need to double team the Tennessee post players, who are largely afterthoughts on offense anyway.

Said it in another post. Keys to the game for me are getting back in transition, limiting live ball turnovers and keeping them off the oboards. WVU is not that talented offensively. They do the bulk of their damage in transition and on the offensive glass, not unlike us.

Agree with @Rickster that they are going to pack it in the paint on us. Our guards are going to have to hit some outside shots and keep them honest.

If we play good team defense and value the basketball I think we win in a close game 74-71. I think the Lady Vols will have a little more pep in their step tomorrow.

Packing it in the paint doesn’t mean not guarding the perimeter players. It simply means they’re going to shrink their defense and force us to take long shots rather than allowing easy post touches or penetration. Burrell has shown she can hit the 3 but we aren’t just brimming with outside shooting. We still score the bulk of our points in the paint as we always have. Whether that’s the bigs or our guards in transition. We’re not a perimeter offensive team.

WVU is really only about 6 deep as well. They’re likely going to have to play some zone for that reason alone. Have to limit fouls and man to man defense is much more exhausting.

The starting lineup for the 1st two games ....... Coach Harper said it would be the same for WV ....remains a mystery to me.I know ....I know ....I have not been at practices and I certainly am not the Coach .But ,it makes no sense to me unless Coach Harper is truly sending a message to the team to motivate them in practicing harder .Certainly if she starts the same lineup against Texas who has a 6'7" center and an overall tall team who has a new head coach who develops his " Bigs " like /better than any other women's coach in the country, the potential for a big loss is out there.Hopefully ,this lineup will prevail at WV.

I echo this post. This is two upcoming very important games and should be approached differently than the prior two and the two after that. In these two games we get to send a message to Creme and the other non-believers that Tennessee is taking a turn, not continuing the road trip we were on.
I do hope Coach K rethinks this strategy

We have the benefit of having most of our returning starters, an advantage during this covid-induced season,,,wherein as Coach K says, teams with veterans are further along because they have played big minutes...let's use this advantage when it counts...Al Brown, where are you?

I think W Va and Texas both give you huge problems right off the bat if you go small.

I 100% agree the lineup doesn’t make much sense to me. That’s been a theme so far for Coach Harper as far as I’m concerned. Can never predict what she’s going to do there and can’t figure out why she’s doing it once she has. Aside from that I do think our team looks much better and well coached most of the time.

More than just individual size, our team defense and rebounding are going to have to be on point. We can’t afford to give them multiple looks at the basket. Offensive execution and limiting turnovers are imperative regardless of who is on the floor.

If a lineup experimentation is still her goal, then inserting Emily would make the most sense,,,,her hometown, equal size inside and a team where we can take an extended look at her.

Maybe for the first minute or two of the game. Emily cannot play for any significant period of time without fouling and she can’t get up and down. WV post players are very mobile.

When she starts winning against some of the better teams or even one of the better teams then I will shutup. Out of her 23 wins thus far we haven't really beat anyone that we should've lost to. I think she is a good coach seems to have us going in the right direction. I still don't agree with that lineup or the rotation. That is why she makes the big bucks cause maybe her plan will work still to be determined. Just scary to me and I may be wrong that she has confidence that Green or Suarez can go against Martinez I hope they can. You can't get in a big hole in this game won't be able to dig your way back at their place.

I think we will likely be bringing a double to Martinez in the halfcourt. We really don’t have anyone that can match her physicality 1 on 1. Their center is not as much of a scoring threat. Going to be really important to keep Martinez off the boards, she’s an excellent rebounder. Especially on the offensive end. Whoever Is assigned that mission #1 priority has to be boxing her out every time down the floor. Can really affect her offensive production if you keep her off the boards.
