Game Thread: Lady Vols host Auburn, Thursday, Feb 13 at 6:30 ET. SECN+

Like the Tulsa game, Tennessee behind most of the 1st, then finally breaks thru right at the end of the qtr to take the lead.

Tennessee won that game 102-61.

And we end up *almost* perfectly replicating that score. If Darby had pulled up and shot, might've just done it.

Great game, Ladies! 19-2 run to end it off.

And that's how you do it....

There ruining the game as usual they don't know when to let plays go . Just makes for to much involvement from the refs on plays that don't matter.
Yep, tonight was 1st time this year I've seen a call men or women on a scrum for a jump ball. Almost all of these floor jump balls have players touching each other and most all refs defer to the jump ball, this one guy was calling late calls 2 or 3 seconds after the fact. I just wonder if some of these refs rewatch any of the games they call it would be embarrassing IMO.

It's hard to watch the Lady Vols and not kind of want the same thing for our Men's team. Yes I realize were ranked 5th but the Lady Vols feel like they have so much more momentum.

Young Coach, lead the nation in points and 3s. and have the #1 recruiting class

Quick thoughts: Nice bounce back! We got the bench points Kim was harping on after the LSU game and if we continue to build on this we will be in good shape moving forward. Despite the horrible officiating, we fought through it and had a great 4th quarter which is nice to see. Lastly, I’m so glad to see Kaniya get the player of the game. This was one of her best games of the season and I know she is going to be so good for us as her career develops.

On a sidenote: For anyone who might care, Mike Hammond, who has done the announcing for at least the last 30 plus years in the arena was out tonight , and Mickey Dearstone filled in for him. I think It’s great Mickey is doing well and still around the university.

Shot 56 percent never going to lose shooting like that and threes were falling like back before the conference began. Cooper 4 for 15 and we still shot 56 percent.
Coop gotta quit trying so hard and settling for 3. She’s too good for settling. She’s at her best when she drives in the paint or gets to the midrange area. She also had 0 steals tonight. Her defense wasn’t there this game. She’s at her absolute best when she can get steals and score.

Plusminus highlights:

Jewel Spear at the top! Vols were +24 while she was on the court. I suppose she just keeps getting healthier, which is helping her on the defensiv end, so those double digit scoring games aren't being wasted on also leading the team in points allowed analytics.

Boyd, Puckett, Darby, and Latham are pretty high up for their minutes — the LVs outscored Auburn more than a point per minute while they were out there. Darby had the highest rate of the team at +1.2 margin per minute played, and all 4 mentioned had more than +1 margin per minute.

Everyone was +positiv, but the lowest rate of players that got serious minutes was Cooper. Tennessee was only +16 in her 23 minutes. Only 10 points, tho she did get 4 assists — a stat she should probably get more focus on going forward. Be a player that improves the players around you, instead of settling for long 2s early in the possession. If she could learn to elevate the other 4 girls around her while she's on the court, our offense could be *elite* when she's out there. As of now, she tries to do too much and settles for really bad shots.

I observed two things. Before the half when we were getting sloppy Kim didn’t high five subs. Didn’t even make eye contact. They got the message loud and clear. And coach was working the officials as a whole the best I’ve seen. I think coming off her pregnancy has made a difference.

Really, I don't think the officiating was that bad overall. Just that short stretch early in the second half. That stretch was really bad. Glad we didn't get rattled by it.
