Game Thread: Lady Vols host Auburn, Thursday, Feb 13 at 6:30 ET. SECN+

Those were great, and I enjoyed seeing everyone happy. Zee is pretty funny! I really like how our players and coach are sounding going into this final stretch. They know they still have work to do, but I like that they understand every game is huge from here on out, and that no opponent can be taken lightly.

Hollingshed is playing her butt off. She has come a long way since the coaching change. She is really locked in. All it took was the right coaching.
Hollingshead looks to me like she's understanding the urgency of a final season. I'd love for her to at least get a W training camp contract, 'cause that would give her some cred on the international pro market.

Of course, she could also come on even stronger and even more impressively in the next few weeks and be drafted late. Verrrry long shot, I know, but she really is blossoming right before our eyes. She'll play professionally, somewhere, for sure though. Great young woman!

She has definitely had a good run of games!! Let’s hope it still onward and upward through the tournament. Spearman too. Our post play has been solid.

On those long passes from the Auburn, the television coverage was frustrating in that the cameras were always focusing on throw in player and so we could never see what led to the breakdown.

For those at the game, what was going on? Auburn had at least 5 times they got behind the LV D for open lay-ups. That was about the only negative from this game so what led to those back

It's hard to watch the Lady Vols and not kind of want the same thing for our Men's team. Yes I realize were ranked 5th but the Lady Vols feel like they have so much more momentum.

Young Coach, lead the nation in points and 3s. and have the #1 recruiting class
IMO, the men's team is nowhere near 10 deep first problem, Carr quit the team. Estrella is hurt out for year and although Boswell plays, it's very limited minutes a game here and there, he has not lived up to his recruiting ranking. So, at most they have 8 players playing SEC ball and Dubar is very inconsistent in his 8 to 10 minutes. So, the men will be in the mix and will get a 1 seed or at worst a 3 seed. Thats all you need for the tournament is about getting a high seed get hot & drawing great matchups for a string of games and your team can make the final 4. Hoping the Lady Vols can finish strong & host, that would be the 1st piece to the puzzle.

It was classy of Coach Kim to call off her girls from trying for the 100 points at the end....There was time left for a quick shot, but our lady just dribbled the time off...Had to be appreciated by the Auburn coach..

Rick is doing a great job considering his lack of depth on that team. Next season is certainly a worry hope he stays been some talk of retiring needs a lot of players next season. Lady Vols are strong this season, but next season sure looks like when the big move will be made. Hoping both teams can be top seeds Tennessee men a two or three still a shot at one. Lady Vols are now a four could be a three or possibly a two if they can win all the games going forward.

CKC and staff have done a remarkable job with the post players. Beginning of the year to mid season we were terrible now with really good coaching they are doing much better.

Tubner is primarily responsible for their development I believe and he is excellent. He really helped the posts at Alabama while he was there. Would still like to see them rebound a little better but they are getting the job done.

Sincerely hope we can keep this staff together for 3-4 years. They are doing something special and I truly think we can win a natty with this staff. Lazo and Tubner would be smart to wait for any head coaching dreams until that happens. Can command some real money coming off a natty.

On a footnote, Coach Kim was arguing with the refs, but our good friend Coach J won't be happy with her unless she gets the ref in a headlock on the sidelines...LOL

You're a good guy Coach....

GT… some people think you have to get a technical before you are doing a good job? 🤷‍♂️

All part of the same pressure defense in and at the backcourt and is the trade off for all the live ball turnovers and backcourt calls. Pretty sure we are way ahead on the net of those situations. It still reduces their front court offense time when none of those things happens and requires them to expend effort for 40 minutes which favors us in our platoon system. Especially when refs don’t give them rest breaks at the foul lines with both numbers and slow administration. Guessing they need a blow too.

WHEN they can defeat it simply gives them numbers and is part of it.

Love Jill, but to be honest our expectations for her have scaled way down since she came here. All we expect now is solid role play in relief. As far as playing professionally, I'd be very surprised.

I did see Jewel appear on a list of possible late round drraftees yesterday for the first time since last year. She could also be a training camp player who gets a look but realistically at her size and lack of speed it's a long shot.
That game was an example of what the system will do to average teams. Wear them down over 4 quarters and eventually just pull away handily. Now, just need a few upgrades in talent and a reduction in self-inflicted errors to win our share against the top teams.
When we hit shots, esp 3s, and esp when more than one person hits them, it makes a huge difference.

Agree, it's something they're OK giving up sometimes. One thing I worried about was if they would be stubborn holding on to the "system" no matter what but that has not been the case. They've been very good about drawing back from the heavy trapping that sacrifices easy buckets when we aren't hitting shots. Partly bc it's hard to set up that prressure except after a made basket but also bc when we aren't shooting well we have little chance to outscore the easy buckets we give up.

At first I was grumpy about the "trot along beside them" press but now I can see how much that gets in the head of the opponent. I was surprised how effectively it bothered even UConn. Just the pest factor wears teams down esp bc of the threat of Coop's unbelievable hands being ever present.

Rewatching the replay and for sure when our players AND our fans were eye rolling the male officials calls, you can see them approaching our players and trying to justify the calls FREQUENTLY. Especially when the fans were reacting to the replays.

Yeah I thought that was super unprofessional. I prefer if they just stand on it and carry on. He KNEW he was screwing up and kept arguing with the players about it.
