It wasn't on her dropping the ball it was on the coaches for making the substitutions in the first place you don't put a player in the game who has sat the bench the whole game!!
Never have understood that philosophy. Why put a player in who has sat the bench the whole game and not thrown or caught a ball for a couple of hours?
No, it very much on her for dropping the ball. She's a D1 collegiate softball player who was given her opportunity to contribute to the game/win....it was an easy shallow popup...she should've caught the ball.
First off, the CF always takes charge on those - Lewis should have been more aggressive and yelled her off, that ball in RF should have been caught also to begin with. And finally, its a softball not a baseball -- use both hands catching those and as any coach would say 'keep your eye on the ball, not the runner' -- all 3 OFs had a role in the bad inning. If, If, If ---- team loss --- move on
How so?

Clearly the starting picture that plays the role of being a closer was out of her comfort zone. The big game you start your best players. In the 4th we had a runner on first, no outs, you bunt the runner to second base to be in scoring position. To let the batter swing away cost us a score. Poor girl that dropped the ball in the outfield should not have been in. Finally you keep our best picture in the game.
Gotta love when people come in here and start saying things that haven't watched a lady vol softball game all year....smh...oh well Can't wait to watch this team start their NCAA tourney run to OKC!!! Go Lady Vols!!
And how exactly do you know who and who hadn't been watching Lady Vol softball games all year? Certainly wouldn't apply to me...I actually enjoy watching them more than the baseball team. They've had an outstanding season and I hope they keep it going....and I'll continue watching like I have all season.
Bottom line, those coaches you're blaming had the team ahead 5-4 and poised to win the game if the left fielder makes a routine catch on a can of corn little league popup to shallow left field.....the runner on third would've held and there would've been 2 outs. As you know, the very next batter was retired and that would've ended the game and the Lady Vols would've won their third SEC title. That's just the truth.
The Weeklys like to put their freshman in tough situations to prepare them for the future. They've always done that and produced some solid players. They did the same thing with Dotson, Brown, Lewis and Tobler (who made the catch to send the national championship game into extra innings coming off the bench). SO...it's not a bad idea..until it is. McClain will be fine, Tennessee will be fine ( just too much talent not to be). If Gabriel is on they can beat anybody. Gaffin is a closer....and a darn good one. This year the best defensive team wins it all, JMO.
