Game Thread Lady Vols Softball at Alabama

With the standings the way they are if the LV's get a 5 seed they would play Kentucky. That would mean they would have to beat Kentucky 4 straight games. That will be tough. If the LV's win the opener then they play the 4 seed which could be Auburn/LSU/Alabama.

If the LV's drop to a 6 seed they would play most likely Ole Miss and then the 3 seed which would again be either Auburn/LSU/Alabama.

A 7 seed would get them a first round game against South Carolina or maybe MSU and then a game against the 2 seed which would once again be either Auburn/LSU/Alabama.

There is not a lot of difference in these matchups IMO.

With a top 4 finish out of reach I agree, doesn't really matter much where they finish. Game 1 opponent will probably be either SC, MSU, Ole Miss or KY. Game 2 either FL, LSU, AL or AUB. But all that can change next week. The standings are so tight the only thing gauranteed right now is Arkansas gets a head start on the off season. Everything else could come down to the last few games on Sunday.

Dang. Missouri run-rules LSU 10-2 to take the series. Missouri is on a 10 game winning streak. Georgia sweeps Kentucky. Auburn wins, SC wins, and Florida kills A&M. Florida has now won 15 in a row. Talk about peaking at the right time.

Oddly enough, the LV are still in the running for the 4 but it goes something like this:

Go 3-0 vs. UK and end up with a 15-9 overall record. Would need LSU to lose 3 of next 4 between tomorrow nights game vs. Mizzou and next week's series vs. Auburn. Also need Mizzou to lose 2 of 3 at home vs. Florida next week.

Losing 1 or more games to UK pushes the record to something and 10 which will put us at the least below UGA who is already in the clubhouse with a 14-9 record.

That is a scenario I had not seen. I was so focused on overtaking Alabama for the 4 seed that I never thought about LSU dropping a bunch of games. Wow! if that were to happen.

I did not see LSU losing more than one to Missouri, they looked so strong early in the year but have played around .500 ball the last few weeks. Looking more in depth I wonder if it's their pitching staff, and how young they are. Have any of them gone through not only a whole NCAA season, but the meat grinder that is the SEC? It's one thing to play a lot of East Nobody States, or play high school and travel ball showcases that are a few weekends in the spring/summer. NCAA ball is on a another level, and then SEC ball makes it that much harder. With Florida on deck you're right, they could leapfrog LSU if there are two sweeps next weekend.

Also, Georgia had a rainout vs Florida that they most likely would have lost. But, nonetheless, they are 14-9 and if UT wins 2-out-of-3 this weekend they will finish behind the Dawgs in the standings as 14-9 is a higher win pct than 14-10.:frown:

LSU beat Missouri last night, so UT needs them to get swept by Auburn next week. Not likely, but there is always hope.
