Gretchen starts the game at pitcher and gives up 5 hits and 5 runs on 42 pitches - 18 of which were balls. A pitch-to-strike ratio of 42/24, or .57, is not very good and needs improving. A good pitcher must be in the range of two-thirds of her pitches in the strike zone to be effective. Gaffin for instance had a pitch-to-strike ratio of 117/74, or .63, which is better. In her no-hitter the other day, Gabriel's pitch-to-strike ratio was 100/68.

Gretchen needs to do a much better job of finding the strike zone with her pitches. It is doubtful Gabriel has the stamina to carry the pitching load the entire season.

Nice to see us hit the ball better and be more competitive, and we had a good chance to take the lead in the 7th--but you can't win when you are giving up 7 runs.

when the crap did lsu get good in softball?

LSU was dominant in the SEC in softball for several years in the early 2000's winning multiple SEC titles and going to the WCWS several years in a row. The program stumbled in the late 2000's. They have a new head coach now who is a Florida graduate and she brought in some good recruits a couple of years ago. They are very good this year.

Gabriel in a bit trouble. Bottom of the 5th and she gave up a leadoff single and a wild pitch got the runner to second. Gaffin is now pitching.

Where are all the smucks who were trashing the team yesterday?

I don't know who you are specifically referring to, but since the series is already lost not too many people are going to get engaged in this game.

I didn't know series records were included in win loss records.

It's not. You are technically correct, a win is a win. But I can tell you as a former high school softball assistant, when you have a three game series and you win the first two games, the third becomes a crap shoot. You are not going to put your aces out there to pitch so as to not wear them out too early in the season. As such it isn't a fair fight.

In a league as tough as the SEC, if I can win every series with a early 2-0 series lead, I'm bagging the third game every time to save my pitchers.
