This is the run-rule result I would expect of a program that brings in the names with credentials that it has and with aspirations to be World Series regulars. Losing this series to SC hurts and means we'll have to make up for it against even tougher competition somewhere.

I hope the players don't feel that way.

Our players should have absolutely been locked in today. My point that seems to be getting twisted here is that there is a different dynamic in a game three when one team has already has taken the first two. Specifically as it relates to the personnel in the game. It usually creates run rule games, blowouts, etc by the team that lost the first; the point being you can't take a whole lot away from this game.

I'm glad our team doesn't have that attitude. They usually want to sweep the series.

SC has a junior and senior laden team. We've had a lot of turnover the last couple of years with very little junior and senior leadership in the toughest conference in the country. It is going to be tough this year even to go to places like SC, Auburn, and Miss St. and win games much less at Alabama. If we win one there that will be good. But, I look for them to come on as the season progresses and maybe make a run in the tournament.

South Carolina was the first team this year to give Cal their first loss...USC is a very much improved team...The SEC LSU finishes 1st and Ole Miss last...in between that it is wide open

We might struggle this year because our team, segmented by class, is out of balance: we have almost no upperclass players, and so we are very young and relatively inexperienced. Not ideal--and the same will be true in two/three years when we will have //too many// seniors. The other issue is that we don't have a true No. 1 pitcher. We will get stronger as the year goes along, I think.

What is needed most for the hitting and fielding to improve is nothing more than game experience.

The pitching situation is more worrisome. Gabriel is improving slowly but I am unsure what her limit is. She is not a power pitcher and although she has a variety of pitches and good command of them, pitchers need a good speed pitch to set up their other pitches. I don't know how much speed Gabriel has, but right now it's not enough. Her stamina is also not at 100%. The Weekly's have to watch her minutes very closely.

Aucoin has velocity but not much else as nearly as I can gather.

I hope these young women find a way to step up their game and lead the team to a successful season.
