Game Thread Lady Vols Softball Team NCAA Regionals

Oklahoma becomes the second team to get to this year's World Series as they just beat Louisiana-Lafayette 7 to 6 in the second game of their series.

I am not a fan of Oklahoma, I dearly hope somebody knocks them out of the World Series.

I want Oklahoma out too. However, they have a great team. I can actually see them making the WCWS finals.

I look for Seggern to be the 3B, and Taylor Rowland or Katilin Martin to be 1B.

Our freshman class next year is very, very good. The kid out of SoCal, Jenna Holcomb, is great, as well.

My thought exactly.

Here is my way-too-early preseason starting lineup for next year:

*(backup)*

Pitcher = Moss/Juco Transfer/Arnold/Morrison
Catcher = Lockman (Bearden)
1B = Rowland (Martin)
2B = Leach (Geer/Lilley)
3B = Seggern (Geer/Lilley)
SS = Gregg (Seggern/Lilley)
LF = Vines (McClain)
CF = Geer (Holcomb/Morrison)
RF = Holcomb (Geathers/McClain)
DP = Geathers (McSwain/McClain)

I am predicting about 80-85 stolen bases and 40-45 home runs for this team. Speedy but not as powerful as the previous team. Offensively, they will be more than adequate, but the big question will be in the circle. The juco transfer better be really good b/c I'm not sure how Arnold will pan out. I will be very surprised if this version of Lady Vols softball team makes it to OKC next June. will probably have just enough in the tank to finish in the top 5-6 in the SEC. Geer and Geathers will be our only two seniors. Will miss the quartet of departed seniors Overstreet/Gaffin/Gabriel/Aucoin...

I agree with every single one of your starting lineup predictions. That's rare for me. I usually find some player(s) that I would argue/disagree with but not on your thinking. I think you have them spot on. Even all the backup positions too. We must think a lot alike buddy. :)

Florida/Georgia: Florida - Winner: Georgia
FSU/Utah: FSU
Oregon/UCLA: Oregon
Auburn/Arizona: Auburn
Oklahoma/ULL: Oklahoma - Winner: Oklahoma
Alabama/Washington: Alabama
JMU/LSU: LSU - Winner: LSU
Michigan/Missouri: Michigan

That JMU-LSU series was something else to watch. JMU I think was the better team but LSU made the key plays. I think Georgia has a better chance than LSU in the WCWS but I wouldn't have said this before the regionals.

Too many unknowns to predict next year. Moss had a good freshman season and should be a strong No. 1 pitcher next year, for starters. The coaches have to hope that Arnold can grab the 2 spot and be as reliable as Moss was this year--that may be asking a lot, but we'll see. We need her to be solid.

Offensively, we've got a very good corp group in Vines, Leach, Gregg, Geer and Geathers, but much will depend on how the freshman and Rowland hit, and in particular I'd say that Lockman needs to have a strong year if we expect to be a serious contender. She had a lackluster year at the plate this year---sat through most of the SEC schedule--and as one of the very few right handed hitters we have, she really has to be productive or the Vols AGAIN will be extremely vulnerable to good left-handed pitching. We've got at least one too many lefty hitters in the lineup--and I believe Rowland, Martin and Seggern are all left-handed bats too! Oh, my. The Weeklys would do well to find a fairly good left-hand pitcher of any age and have her throw against our lefty hitters in practice--regularly--so that we are not helpless come tournament time when we'll surely face more than one southpaw. If you don't have enough right-hand hitting, you'd better get your lefties accustomed to standing in there against southpaw pitching, at the least.

3 more outs and the SEC will have their 3rd team in Bama leads Washington 5-2 Auburn has taken the lead on Zona 2-1 in the 5th

Arizona takes down Auburn 5-3 in game one of their series. Danielle O'Toole two-hits the mighty Auburn bats. She was masterful.

Wish we could get a transfer like that. Candrea must have been praying a lot.

Not sure about the last one but the first two Auburn runs were unearned

The thing about Arizona is they probably have the top two freshmen in the country coming in next year. One is a pitcher and the other is a home run hitter who is breaking Lauren Chamberlain's records. The future looks bright for Arizona.

There were, um, a lot of schools very interested in her.

SDSU would not release her, so a school that took her as a transfer would have to have her on scholarship while she sat out last year. Certain schools could not make the scholarship numbers work to let that happen.

What could have been. Sigh.....

Of course, Kaityn Martin can compete with Geathers for DP spot and start there too, not just at 1B.

After watching what Arizona did to Auburn yesterday (6 infield singles), I'm a little more optimistic with this lineup. Speed can kill you know, and this 2016-2017 team will be FAST! If our pitching can be reliable, who knows what this team is able to accomplish in late May-early June??

I know a lot more about Danielle O'Toole now than a week ago, but it looks as though it wasn't that close. Arizona was the first school she visited, and she was SOLD on her first visit there. Even though she visited other schools after that (I'm not sure if she visited Tennessee/Georgia or not), but her mind was pretty much made up after going down to Tuscon for an official visit.

And some in the softball world thought Candrea was washed up and no longer a top coach. Guess they were wrong...

That pitcher for JMU, Megan Good, was outstanding. Their only problem was they only had one other really good player and that was the other pitcher. Those two couldn't carry the team to OKC. I think Megan Good is the best player in college softball.

My only disagreement with your starting line-up prediction is McClain. I know she is a work in progress at the plate but I think she is our best defensive outfielder with a rocket for an arm. How do you keep that speed off of the field? If she develops at all as a slap hitter she is starting.

The key to next season if Gabriel doesn't get her medical redshirt will be Arnold. How good can she be at the SEC level? I think her playing out there in California this summer could prove fruitful.
