Game Thread Lady Vols Softball Team NCAA Regionals

I got irritated listening to Jenny Dalton Hill complain that the PAC-12 was done a disservice by the Oregon/UCLA pairing in the super regionals.

Her point I agree was valid that the number one and two place teams in a conference shouldn't face each other in a super regional. But she was a bit tone-deaf since she's both a PAC-12 and Arizona alum. She defended the committee's pairing of Florida/Georgia but failed to mention the pairing of Auburn/Tennessee. Of course Tennessee didn't make it and these weren't one and two place teams but it irritated me nonetheless. I think she was in shock that Auburn stormed back and was eliminating her Arizona Wildcats.

The commenting for NCAA softball is ridiculous. So biased and there's not even an attempt to hide it.

UCLA up on Oregon 2-0 5th in game 3 of the Oregon SR UCLA did beat them 2/3 in the season

I'm not arguing with you but last year at this time the board was full of predictions like Lockman would be the starting catcher, Bush would be the ace of the staff, Rowland would start at 1B, Leach and Vines would steal 30 bases apiece. None of these predictions came true.

I would like to know who said this. Overstreet was going to be the starting catcher the minute Annie Aldrete left, and Gabriel was always going to be the ace of the staff. I'm also not surprised Matty Moss got substantially more innings than Bush, although I didn't see Moss having the freshman season she had, nor did I see Bush struggling like she did.

Rowland would've been the starting 1B had she not torn her ACL. And Vines and Leach have the speed to steal 30 bases in a season. Honestly I'm not sure why our staff didn't allow the team to steal more bases this season.

Oregon averages 8 runs per game but have scored only 1 run in 14 plus innings today...down to 3 outs and they will have to do it with the bottom of the lineup

UCLA takes two from Oregon to punch their world series ticket.

Who gets to the world series? My picks: 4 SEC, 1 PAC 12, 1 Big 10, 1 ACC, 1 Big 12:

Florida/Georgia: Florida - Winner: Georgia
FSU/Utah: FSU - Winner: FSU
Oregon/UCLA: Oregon - Winner: UCLA
Auburn/Arizona: Auburn - Winner: Auburn
Oklahoma/ULL: Oklahoma - Winner: Oklahoma
Alabama/Washington: Alabama - Winner: Alabama
JMU/LSU: LSU - Winner: LSU
Michigan/Missouri: Michigan - Winner: Michigan

This is how many major NCs all that Nike money has gotten for Oregon

Interesting tidbit: Of the three super regionals that went all three games, the team that lost game one ending up winning the series by taking the doubleheader on day two: LSU, Auburn, and UCLA.

I haven't seen much of Michigan, but I would guess that Oklahoma is a huge fave in OKC

The right side of the world series bracket has some powerful teams - Michigan, Oklahoma, and Alabama.

The left side of the bracket looks a bit weaker.

I have no idea who will win but Auburn is mentally very tough, very competitive. If they get good pitching they will be hard to beat. Michigan and Oklahoma are the two teams to beat IMO on the right side of the bracket although I dearly hope somebody, anybody knocks out Oklahoma.

Why the hate-fest for OU?

For the most part, the better teams are moving on. I would have liked to see UT take 2/3 from Zona and play AU-- with the home crowd behind them, it was another missed opportunity. AU showed that O'Toole isn't invincible. She got the LVs rattled, and they couldn't adjust. She'll be back next year, and so will other left-handed pitchers, so that's something to be addressed.

The AU-UCLA game was a good one last year. If UCLA can continue to work through their pitching issues, it should be a great game.

Last season I believe the top eight seeds all advanced to the World Series from the Super Regionals. This season, three of the top eight seeds lost in the Super Regionals: Florida, Oregon, and JMU.

What I thought was even more interesting about the super regionals is three teams advanced after losing the first game. Having even one team advance after losing the first game is a rarity.

I believe you're right-- the top 8 did advance last year. The seeding felt more more fluid this year. Teams that might have been a bit overrated had weaknesses exposed by teams that might have been a bit underrated. Ironically, top seed UF was the only higher seed that was swept this weekend.

I think it will be UCLA and Oklahoma in the finals.

I haven't seen the WCWS brackets but I already picked Oklahoma as one team to make it. Without knowing the full bracket I would say either Bama or Auburn as the other. I would say Oklahoma wins it all in 3 games for the final series.

Tony, here is a link to the brackets:

2016 DI College Softball Bracket | NCAA.com | NCAA.com

They are aligned this way:
Left side:
Georgia vs FSU
Auburn vs UCLA

Right side:
Oklahoma vs Alabama
LSU vs Michigan

Game 1 is Thursday at noon eastern

That Oklahoma group is so young and talented I wouldn't be surprised if they end up with 2 titles by the time they are finished.

Michigan is the team to beat. They have been for most of the season, as Florida's offense was borderline average for most of the season.

Oklahoma would be the next best choice.

They both have the best combination of hitting and pitching in the country. I believe Michigan's hitting lineup is stronger, however.

I will take OU, can not stand Missigan!

I'm actually going to pull for LSU overall. They probably have the least chance of winning it all. I like the underdogs. I do not want a non-SEC school to win it but I also do not want Bama to win it either. Would rather see Auburn than Bama to win it but rooting for LSU.
