TN wins 8-7 in a long 3-hour game.

Texas A&M jumped all over Rainey and got out to a 2-0 lead. TN stormed back scoring 2 in the 4th and then busting it open in the 5th scoring 5 off an Overstreet 2-run homer and rbi singles that drove in 3 more runs, and adding a much-needed insurance run in the 6th to make it 8-3. A&M almost takes the lead scoring 4 in the 7th off a bases-clearing triple and a single.

Rainey gets knocked out in the 7th - A&M knocked the ball around a bit and could have won the game leaving the bases loaded in the 6th and scoring 4 in the 7th. Gabriel comes in and gets the save with a strikeout and a weird game-ending play where the A&M batter drove in the last run to make the score 8-7 but she tried to take second and was out when the ball came into Leach and the runner was still about 5 feet from second. She just stopped and let Leach tag her out.

The TN bats looked a lot better in this game with several players who had been slumping getting good wood on the ball - Overstreet, Gaffin, Aucoin, and Geathers among them.

Geer commits an error at third and former 3rd baseman now DP McSwain strikes out 3 times. I think third base is haunted for TN.

See you noon tomorrow.

Good grief: Runner on third, less than two outs, you grab the grounder, glare at the runner on third, which should stop her cold, and then fire to first. If she runs you throw home and take away the run...

In most cases, the third baseman is playing in and the runner is actually behind them. To see the runner you'd have to turn around. What might have been happening is no communication from Overstreet to tell McSwain to throw home or to first.

The problem will be fixed next year with Chelsea....man we gotta find a dp that can hit in that spot....I for sure thought McSwain could do it they may try lockman there tomorrow

1. It was a very long game. Almost three hours, that's ridiculous. Seemed 3-4 times an inning the catchers were going to the circle to talk with the pitcher. Is there a rule on that?

2. Geer's error wasn't a bad error. She squares up on it and took it off the chest. Kudos to her for not doing the matador move and waving her glove at it half hearted

3. Mcswain needs to get her mojo back. Last year as a freshman she was able to get some big hits vs SEC pictching. I was hoping she'd make a jump this year to being even better at the plate. Still lots of season left for her

4. Gabriel tomorrow I would assume. Who will A&M throw? None of the three they put out their tonight impressed.

I will take the win but it was ugly. As stated we are cursed at 3rd base although Geer did all she could with that bad hop. In the 6th inning I think when there was no out and runners on 1st and 2nd and the batter hit a perfect grounder to Gaffin, who never looked at either base, and there was a easy throw to both but she threw to 1st for the out. That left runners on 2nd and 3rd and I know that the person on 3rd scored. Just as easy to get the lead runner as the hitter. McSwain who I feel sorry for because she has let her defense kill her offense. She lets the hittable pitch go by and swings at junk.. Buntin fundamentals is atrocious. Cannot will most of the time with this problems and walks kill us too.

McSwain is a pretty good hitter. She got off to a slow start this year but was coming around pretty nicely--and then came issues with her defense and her benching. Not being on the field might have affected her some today--we'll see if she can adjust. We need her bat, especially because she's got some power. And we need a good effort from Gabriel tomorrow, for sure. Great win today--we needed it.

One thing we all should remember about Scarlett, she is just a sophomore and the 2nd year jinx has haunted many good players in all sports. I hope she can get the head right and be that DP we need but I would be surprised to see her in the line up today and maybe the next day. I do not know any of these young ladies but Geer and a couple others maybe are the so called Alpha types. Hope for a more positive game today because as the announcers noted AM is a offensive machine and defense was errorless as well I think. The vast majority of their lineup is underclass ladies as well.

Agreed. I know that CJ made a great throw to 2nd which was good for her since the dropped fly ball last year in the WS I think. I don't blame the AM coach for sending the runner to 2nd but if she had slid she had a better chance of being safe. Gregg nearly did not get the glove on her and her tip toeing around. Challenge the defense was the right call especially the way we tend to miss a beat sometimes. As you say lucky to win.
