Game Thread Lady Vols vs Albany

I would have to disagree. She scored 11 points because she is a volume shooter, not a good shooter. She shot 4-12 (33%), while the rest of the team shot 16-35 (46%). I would rather have the shots taken by the 46% shooters instead of the 33% shooter. As a team, we still shoot well under 50%.

By that I meant she usually makes one or more key plays at the end to save the game. That has been true on several occasions already in just this short bit of the season we have played.

She didn't do it today. And yeah, she is not a great shooter. No one on this team is. But a missed shot isn't the worst thing that can happen on a possession because you can still get the rebound. A turnover is the worst thing. So if you give me a player who shoots 10% better but turns the ball over twice as much then she is going to hurt me worse than the one who doesn't shoot as well. And that is all we have to choose from. Players who don't shoot well or are afraid to shoot and ones who can't take care of the ball.

Deshields is playing gimpy and it affects her shot. I expect she will never be a great shooter but she will get better if her legs allow it.

Seven shots attempts for our post players, who are playing like All Americans and over 20 three point attempts. smh! wow

Holly please don't reward those who are not getting it done, everything is baded production and performance.

What have you done for the Lady Vols lately?

ooooh oooh oooh yea!

Am I the only one who thought it was a good win? The LV's defense is pretty good. The shooters tried to take shots and they hit quite a few of them. The turnovers are still a glaring problem. But this was a good win I thought.

I did minus turnovers, Richards only had 2 points and 1 rebound in the 2nd half, Russell and Graves stepped up big time

Me too 4 games in 9 days. It has the feel of tournament games, 1st round a day break 2nd game. I love it!

It will be a great test, Texas has four days to prepare for us. This mean it might be ugly offensively, with our ladies only having one day. I love it. What are you made of Ladies?

Obviously I'm glad we won but it's hard for me to feel good about a win when we had 21 turnovers in a tight game at home with an unranked team. I prefer we had much fewer turnovers and won by a higher margin.

We are averaging 18 turnovers per game - 14, 17, 19, 19, and 21 respectively. That's not one game, that's our AVERAGE turnovers every game all of which were against teams either unranked or in the bottom 20 to 25. That won't get you wins against ranked top 20 opponents let alone get you to the final 4 or a championship.

I don't see how we get a win Sunday against Texas if we play like we did the last 4 games. Texas will likely make us pay for all those turnovers and we won't be able to eek out a win as we have been doing.

They need to play consistent defense from start to finish AND LIMIT the turnovers - 10 or less.

To suddenly have only 10 turnovers seems unrealistic. If they can get it back down to 14 - then that's 4 more shot attempts for the LV's and 4 less for the opponent. Hopefully that translates to a net gain of 8 points in favor of the LV's. That's about the best can be hoped for in the turnover department.

Turnovers are from a lack of discipline, which directly relates to practice habits. A T/O margin this high, means either the coaching isn't addressing the problem in practice, or the players aren't responding to it, or a combo of both.

Tea doesn't play under control I guess because she is a freshman always trying to do to much. Jones doesn't play under control even though she is a junior she has to try to dribble through traffic to the basket it is a must she try it and turn it over a couple times a game. Reynolds and Middleton just pass the ball to the other team. Out of the four I like Tea the best she will make a play or two now and then.
We made enough threes today but we negated them with turnovers. On to the next game.

Positive and negative players today.

Positive

Graves
Russell
Deshields
Carter

Neutral

Jones
Cooper
Jackson
Dunbar

Negative

Reynolds
Middleton

Why do Reynolds and Jones get so much PT? I mean, I know what Holly sees in Jones, but I am mystified why Reynolds gets 30 minutes a game.

I am mystified that both are stating since neither can score the ball.Jones is a turnover waiting to happen....no change there and combine that with unforced turnovers by other guards and that is a toxic offensive situation.

Jones can score. If she could just get her turnovers and decision making under control. Then she would be a force to be reckoned with.

I disagree that she can consistently score the ball. This is her 3rd year and no improvement is evident in either scoring or turnovers imo.

Really? She is only shooting 37% for the year! Of course, Diamond is only shooting 32%, Cooper 36%, Reynolds and Carter 33%, Jackson 25%, and Moore has missed every shot she has taken. I would hardly call any of these players sharpshooters.
