Game Thread Lady Vols vs Arkansas

It amazes me that fans are still un happy . Lets be honest this team has improved there zone offense . and lets give holly credit for that . I don't care what Arkansas there record is we got beat by them , we had turnovers down, moved the ball really well. showed signs of great offense against a zone. If you are going to bash a coach when they are losing . give credit were it is due . holly is helping them improve period. Mercedes looks better and better as season goes along.

I give the team credit for the improved offense against the zones that have been used not Holly.....it may just have been a pure accident for having one low post player down low since Graves has been injured and sitting on the bench for the last two games .We will see when Graves returns to action if Holly plays two low post players against the zone.....if she doesn't then I will give her credit for the offense that they have played in the last two games where they have had good spacing with four out and one in the post, have moved the ball better ,given room to not only pass but drive the ball and yes create better and more open shots both from the post and outside.

Two posts works as long as somebody hits outside shots. This team can't shoot from outside very well.

And it may have also been a fluke that Jaime had a couple of nice games in Bashaara's absence as well.

I wouldn't cast Graves to the bench just yet. This team is a better team with her on the court than off it.

I just watched the replay,it was a solid game by the Lady Vols, they do need to quit having a bad Quarter every game, for the most part they had good shot selection on the Offensive side.it is nice to see the Offense starting to click

as usual I'd like to see Middleton have more confidence in her 3pt shooting, the open shoots are there for her

Russell had a very good game ,I would like to see her use the back board a lot more, she is missing a lot of chip shots so far this year, she has been kicking the ball out pretty good the last couple of weeks too, which is nice to see

it is great to finally see Nared playing with a lot more confidence,I think she is finally shaking off the rust from not playing for most of the year

I'm very pleased with Coopers improvements the last couple of weeks too, her Defensive play is improving a lot, which is a good thing

and congrats to CHW on winning a 100 games in 4 years, she is the 6th coach to do that since 1992,which is pretty impressive, especially when you figure in her injury riddled teams, which has been a problem ever since she took over as the head coach
,she has had 7 players miss 46 games this year alone

Nared is the one with weak hands, not Russell. I assume the broken hand plays a part in this, but she gets the ball stripped pretty much every time she's in the lane with the ball or gets a rebound and tries to go back up. She needs to work with the strength coach on her hands and arms and she probably already is.

Never said cast Graves to the bench. All I am saying is that they should play 4 out and one in ( one low post ).Okay to play two posts against the zone if one is not down low.One poster said that it is okay to play two posts low .....I agree if it is man to man or woman to woman ....but against a zone it clogs up the lanes and that was one of the primary reasons they have lost 8 games.

Okay against man to man or woman to woman if you prefer ;but it is exceedingly difficult in playing against a zone ......and it is okay against a zone if only one post is played down low which was my point. Two low posts against a zone spells trouble and was one of the primary reasons we have lost 8 games.

actually I thought it was the high number of turnovers and poor shooting %

Right. Two posts against a zone works fine if the other three players hit shots. Summitt's teams did it for decades. Reynolds, Cooper, Nared, and Carter are all shooting a little better now than a few games ago, but Reynolds and Carter's shooting % is historically low so I am not optimistic they will hit shots when they are on the floor. Still early in Nared and Cooper's career. They have time to improve.

The structural problem with this team has more to do with Graves' inability to play effectively anywhere except around the basket.

Dis. Yes, our offense is not a traditional back to the basketball four offense anymore. Great post!

That wasn't necessarily directed against you, but to the general consensus that the team has benefitted from Bashaara being on the bench. If anything, they have benefitted from weak competition.

If Bashaara is in the game with Russell, and the three perimeter players are hitting open shots, then Tennessee will steamroll most of their opponents. The problem is less with running a 2 post offense as much as it is the guards contributing mostly nothing on offense for the majority of the games to date.

Improve the guards, improve the offense.

yep, weak competition hides a lot of ills.

South Cackelacky will expose them again.

Graves is average and was a better player her freshmen year. She plays with no confidence and is not playing like this is her senior year. When Izzy, went down you saw an immediate spike in Burdick and Ariel's play, zilch for Graves.

You are not seeing that from Graves. And she is more of a liability on offense cos she plays with no confidence, her strength is defense, ijs.

Here's to Graves finishing year senior with a bang, cos so far it has been a thud! ijs

We Graves off the floor there is more space, wider passing lanes, and she's limited, Nared and Dunbar, are not limited well on the block, but who really has two low back post players anymore, Uconn nope, Notre Dame, nope.

SC can get away with cos 4 and 5 players are the best in the game or close.

Defense rebounds, and good guard play win championships.
