Game thread: LADY VOLS VS. ETSU

I was very impressed with Lou Brown's performance tonight. She has a very calming influence on the team. A great pickup for the Lady Vols.

Right now Lou Brown is definitely our biggest steadying force — I felt more confident watching when she was on the floor. I’m thrilled with how she has looked, even though she’s still recuperating.

It’ll come together, but we have somehow got to learn how to be patient. There HAS been progress: NOONE hung her head or appeared to give up. That’s worth celebrating.

You can change coaches but you can’t change the fact that these players have no discipline! Most are wild and out of control! And tho some will disagree but Massengill is not close to SEC caliber player! Still no half court offense! This team needs a PG bad!
Jordan Horston should start as our point guard.
Also Rae Burrell should get the start over Jaden McCoy.

Seriously tho, whats up with players having career nights against the lady vols

No reason for it ! Put one of our McDonald’s 5 star AA and shut her down ! You’re telling me no one on that team could shut her down !?? Come on ! I don’t care if we had to go to an old school box and one . Ridiculous .

Tennessee did not have a player on their roster quick enough or fast enough to stay in front of Haynes Overton. Doesn’t matter how many stars they had. She single handedly forced UT to go zone. She was by far the best player on the floor tonight and it wasn’t even real close. UT is very big and very slow. They are in for a long season

Geez. It’s just the first game. Don’t jump off the ledge just yet.
Geez, that team has a lack of talent and a coach with a failed P5 record. They are headed to depths Holly couldn't reach. That performance was brutal and directly related to having a poor team overall.

I’m sorry but KJH was not the hire that this team needed. She had proven nothing as a head coach and only got the job because of her ties to CPS and the program. You can flame away on me if you want to, but this is my opinion.
I wasn’t a huge fan of the hire either, but she’s here so let’s try to make the best of it. Can’t cry over spilled milk.

Well daisy duke we are glad you signed up and blessed us to post since you seem to have a very nice set of krystal balls to predict the future.

The rating services really screwed up on some of our players!

Mercy, that was a fairly ugly game...We have lots and lots of work to do to be competitive against a lot of teams...Some of our girls are very poor shots, especially right under the basket.

Green played very well....Horstson has to learn to shoot, and not drive every ball like a fullback at the goal line...T Key, to me, was not a bright spot, not sure what some of you guys saw in her.

Refs called everything against us....Lots of fathom calls. In any event, a win is a win.
T key had a double double, 3 assist and 5 blocks. That was a great stat line. Horston had 6 assist and the fouls they called against the girls was completely unbalanced. It’s hard to play well with those odds. Again it’s 1 game and you are speaking about freshman that have never played college ball. Horston have to be taught that driving may not get the calls that she may of received in high school but that is her strength.

While I’m sure she’s not their best friend like CHW, she can’t come in full Pat Summitt mode at the beginning. These kids didn’t know her at all. I expect to see her be much tougher as the year progresses. It will also be nice to see a team improve through the season instead of getting worse. Holly’s teams always digressed.

Well, the season is OVER! I am texting Phil to tell him to pull the plug right now because the first game of the season completely and perfectly predicts everything.....

Good Gawd, maybe I dunno given Kellie maybe 5 games before declaring "SEE, I TOLD YOU SHE WAS A BAD HIRE!, LOOK AT ME LOOK A ME!."

This team is integrating a lot of new pieces:, freshman, a player coming off an ACL tear (and working under minute restrictions), and a JUCO.

Zaay, Rennia and KK are the only LVs players who have serious game experience at this level.

This team is a work-in-progress and the thing to look for is the improvement curve-- are the LVS doing some things better after each outing and becoming a more competitive team?

It is clear that the freshman Horston (no surprise) and Key are going to be pivotal to the team's success and they will need to fast track their development.

Rae did not seem to have much of a game (looking at the box score) and the LVs will need her to step up with Zaay and Rennia. KK needs to bring more as well.

But, that core group, once they gel should be competitive.

Our depth this season could be a concern. Maz will need to find her game.

One minor thing I’d like to see Thursday is a play drawn up specifically to get Jess Rennie an open layup JUST so she can (hopefully) finally see the ball go through the net. Once she scores a bucket — ANY kind of score from ANYwhere — I suspect she’ll relax a little and stop pressing.
