Game Thread Lady Vols vs. ETSU

Rae’s efficiency and decision making are night and day. When she, Rennia And Jordan start clicking at the same time it’s gonna be 🔥🔥🔥

Rae is my favorite (steal of her class )! But it took her first year to stop the Bull in the China shop playing ! And then the second year to slow down enough to break the starting line up ! Now a starter and one of our best players as a junior ! Will she stay an extra year. ? 🙏

Jordan played the same as Rae her freshman year ! We all can see her talent but the mental part of the game and making smart decisions have cursed both players in their first years . Jordan’s second year (Under Kelley ) she has some of the same tendencies but you can also see it won’t take Jordan long to start making better decisions! Already has .... 🤔

Rennia is who she is and our leader . But she also has some mental lapses . Will these three get these mistakes resolved soon ? Only time will tell . But if they do ..... We will have a good team! If not .... We will finish like last year with an average SEC TEAM , somewhere in the middle ! JMo

I would like to see the +\- for the last two games. Keyen played much better tonight. Would love to see her more aggressive on the boards. She was a fantastic rebounder at Liberty. She looks closer to 5’11” if I’m being honest. Will definitely be undersized by a lot in the SEC. Keyen does seem to bring a calmness and she doesn’t really make any bad plays.

McCoy plays super hard and plays solid defense. She has a tough time on offense. Reminds me a bit of Kamera Harris prior to last season. She looks so nervous that she’s going to make a mistake that she’s already made it before she attempts. A tough cycle sometimes. Self fulfilling prophecy if you will.

Didn't watch the game tonight, but the 1 rebound Green got was a surprise to me. She only had 1 rebound in the last game too. And that's against two small teams. Hopefully this is an aberration; otherwise, I can't see her being a factor in SEC play.

Rennia definitely makes too many turnovers, many apparently careless. It's one aspect of her game she could really improve. To some extent, we may have to just accept that Rennia and Horston are going to be 3+ turn over a game players. Hopefully they'll continue to be more than able to make up for it by being prolific scorers.

Speaking of turnovers, Marta crashes back to Earth tonight with a whopping 6 t.o.s. That's okay though I still really like what she apparently has to contribute. I may be delusional but I still think she could grow up to be Grant Williams.

Looked like we had played a game before we played this one. Never seen so many player look like they were exhausted. 24 turnovers most of them unforced tells you all you need to know. ETSU likes to run the clock a lot of 25 second or more possessions. Then we'd turn it over so they could do it again. Weak game for us but a win is a win.
The lady vol way. Lots of turnovers. Did we miss 2 or more layups?

Why did McCoy get so many minutes? Why?!? I love Rae’s composure through two games and i love how she barked back when she had to come out the game and said “why... i only need a bandaid”😂

My other favorite moment was when Rennia looked at Mccoy and then yelled lol

Same. I’m hoping Coach was getting some of the reserves minutes. I’m thinking we won’t see much of her and Emily. Probably limited Jessie as well. 10 deep is solid. Coach added a lot of depth to this team. There just aren’t enough minutes against better teams IMO.

Davis and Burrell appear as though they’ll play 30+ minutes a game. Walker and Horston are good for 25+ so they get thin pretty fast. I think we will see Horston at the 3 and Rennia the 4 a good bit. Marta is really versatile so she’ll be out there a lot. My guess is eventually the lineup is 1-Walker 2-Horston 3-Burrell 4-Davis 5-Key/KK. The centers are likely splitting minutes most of the season. Salary looks to be the best option off the bench so far. Her on ball defense will get her minutes against good teams.

Rennias turnovers come from her not scoring FORGET passing it to the open player and shoot the ball... Team ball is great HOWEVER if i’m Rennia i’m shooting the d@m# ball. You would have to bench me for overshooting. Two of her three turnovers were trying to get the ball to teammates who can’t catch the ball. so to eliminate that i will be adding those two as shot attempts.

She does need to pull up more in the lane she has a beautiful pull upbut i can see why she tried to get to the basket because that’s what everybody has been telling her to focus on.

Jordan was 4 of 9 shooting with 2 for 3 on 3's,,2 rebs, 3 assists, 1 block and 5 steals and all you see is 3 TO's

Yes that was a little troubling for me as well. She does get a body on someone every time down the court. She’s great at posting and creating a seal for the guards. She opened up the lane several times just by posting hard. Basically a legal moving screen, high level thinking. Just good smart post play.

Tough for any of the fives to guard when they get pulled away at all. We do have 15 fouls. No idea why we would have two on the floor at the same time as we did part of tonight.

Coach K was experimenting with lineups the whole game, start to finish

You need to go back and watch the game... i wanted to see her play MORE. Her energy was amazing and she drew two charges. You also have been talking about posts going to get the ball she saved two plays and one she straight took it like a bully in the paint and got a chance at an and-one.

I can see her energy being what helps to turn a tide or stem it.

Self own much? Apparently tunnel vision prevented you seeing my several posts commending Horstons game and mental toughness. Try to keep up.

Agree on Rae. In fact force to choose our best, I would take her.

We have three good players, the three you named. The other two spots are challenged athletically which is a problem team wise.

AND. I . HATED . EVERY. MINUTE. LOL

I am thankful Jaiden will NOT play that many min again ... She always leans her shoulder into the offensive player when she guards and she is a liability on offense.

I hope Kellie tightens this rotation up against WVU and if u only the same 8 play so be it 😡

When you watch it (if you do) you will notice similar to the first game she goes after the rebound and if her and her teammate has the ball she lets go of it and they are awarded with the rebound

I didn't comment on the first game because I would not say anything bad about
Jordan Horston
. I believe she is the second best player on the team after Rennia Davis . Rae Burrell is the third, Tamari Key is a close fourth. Jordan Walker should start at the point. The game tonight was disappointed to me, should have scored over 80 points even with the subs playing a lot. the others players will have to work for there minutes. as always go Lady Vol's.

I want to see more Jordan Walker! She didn’t score but in the min she played 3 assists to 1 turnover.

I also want to see walker go back for the ball more and command the team!
Also had three rebounds and a steal. I wanted to see more of her also, I wanted to see if my eyes were deceiving me the last game. Still think Walkers the starting point guard. Salary got more of a look tonight in a scrimmage type situation. Between those two, I'm optimistic our on ball defense can really improve over last season.

Agree coach . It was obvious that Kelley was not worried about the game but was more interested in seeing different players in different situations . Trying to change up both sides of the ball and PRACTICING for future games ! JMO 🤔

What a messy last few minutes. Letting Suarez run the point is interesting. Coach experimented a lot. We really look exhausted, I maintain they had two long days of practice before this. I think ETSU will go on to do well in their conference. They are well coached and play with a lot of determination . They played really scrappy tonight.

why can’t the lady vols ever play scrappy once?

Same and Jordy H was a DOG on defense! Jo and Jordy together on defense got two or three steals together.

i didn’t even realize she (walker) had three rebounds i think once she gets more comfy she is going to make more of a difference. Her hands on defense are always getting on the ball. i think she is going to help with other teams point guards.

I need to re-watch the game to see what's going on with Keyen and rebounding. Is she moving out of range to snag the ball as she's blocking out? And is she blocking out strong and opening space for other Lady Vols to run in and grab them? I've seen players do that in the past -- do all the hard work to keep the opponent off the glass and then someone else swoops in to snag the glorious rebound! I'll be interested to see if Keyen deserves some "rebounding assists."

Key has NO energy.. KK played alright

Tamari’s demeanor reminds me of Mercedes.

Tamari was fouled all night but the officials let ETSU get away with a lot inside.

We still struggle with hard drives. Last game, we knocked the ball away a lot when WKU penetrated. Tonight, not so much. When they didn’t score, ETSU would drive out of control and throw themselves into our defender and get the call. They slapped a lot down low. It was a tough night inside.

Rae played well. Just a couple or so bad decisions but mostly in control all night. We’re starting to see what she can do. Davis is so smooth and deadly going to the basket. I hope Jessie finds her shot. She has no problem launching a shot but they are not falling yet. Jordan H is just so talented and I have no doubt she will be an All American. Her body has changed and she would be a great fit at the 4. Great to see her shot falling.
