Game Thread Lady Vols vs Kentucky

SC will be playing Bama at 2pm on ESPN2 right before your game at 4pm. I haven't had a chance to see the lady Vols yet this season in action but looking forward to it today after our game. I don't see any reason why SC, UT & Miss State shouldn't finish as the 3 best teams in the SEC this year.

The matchup zone that looks like a man to man is our best defense. We played great defense against Stanford and we'll need a similar effort today. The key is to keep them out of the paint as much as possible and make them outside shooters. If they can beat us from there they deserve the win. Getting to the basket is their game and Epps will be taking it in there almost every offensive possession.

Russell has to go up strong! They aren't going to give her anything. With Akhator out (with 2 fouls) she has to dominate

Offense looks good today working for better shots on most possessions. We need to stop their second and third shots and should have played for the last shot in that quarter. Overall a very good quarter for us.

Agreed. Good quarter for us. I would like to see us defend against their penetration better but you can't get everything.

Well shot selection was good in the first quarter but it has not been very good in this quarter.

On the charge foul on Diamond: didn't the UK player look like she was still sliding to the right into position AFTER Diamond had already left the court on her little runner? I always thought when you get into position after the player with the ball had left the court, it was supposed to be a blocking foul - in this case, against the UK player. Am I wrong on that??

I am so sick of the LVs shooting jump shots with no one in the paint to rebound.

They all do it!

Kentucky goes on a mini run and CHW takes off her jacket but doesn't call a timeout to regroup her team.

It was close but I thought the player had established position.

We're killing them in air balls shot. We just don't have the judgement on what constitutes a good shot.

Nunn is really going to do damage in the SEC if she is given more time to play! I love her relentlessness on the boards and she rarely brings it down!

We actually won that quarter by a point so happy considering some of the bad shots we took.
Huge half by Nunn.

Up 7 at the half. We had a chance to really separate ourselves from Kentucky. Akhator sat out much of the first half in foul trouble and Epps has just 4 points. We're 1 of 9 from 3.
Playing good defense but the more I watch this team the more I'm convinced
that a lot of our players are just not good shooters.

That is why I think Holly should stress players getting in the paint for shots. Getting as close to the basket as you can for shots. I know we have to take a few threes but seems we like to take them on the run or when no one is under to rebound it is a terrible shot when you do that.
