Game Thread Lady Vols vs Louisville in the NCAA Tournament

I would just like to go to a tournament where we don't end up embarrassing ourselves and where our players play hard and smart whether they are up or down on the scoreboard.

I thought this team was mentally tougher than the last bunch, and they were pretty resilient most of the year, but tonight we have reverted to form.

Oh well, at least the meltdown did not come against UConn.

It's hard when the catalyst of the offense, Simmons, is just off. I forget what game it was 2 years ago where she came out and was just as cold. She's a great player, she just goes cold at some bad times, and when she's not hitting shots, the rest of her game suffers.

Woulda been nice to see Spani in there a little more though, we need some leadership, and Burdick might not be enough.

What will happen in this game is either we'll lose by 25 or Simmons will have a huge second half and it will be down to the wire.

This exactly. Spani might be able to turn it around too. She's been on fire a couple games this postseason.

It might keep us from total embarrassment in the Final because if we were to win tonight I could see us beating Cal and making it. No matter the winner of UConn , ND. Both of those teams will or would mop the floor with TN.

Yep, UConn always plays at the top of their game in the tournament. They looked like a well oiled machine in their last game. I am not sure why we play with no confidence and get so frustrated but that is how we have played through two different coaches and two sets of players now.

Think about how the Vols played in all big games over last two years. Four straight losses to Baylor-- yea, they were good, but couldn't hit the broad side of a barn in all of those games--under 30 percent shooting in each of them. Whipped by Stanford, whipped twice by notre dame. We just collapse under pressure now. It's ok to get beat. But is not ok to stink up the gym with a bench full of All America recruits. We need to find the next Muffett McGraw.

Muffet won't look so good either once Skylar is gone. That is how much difference the premier players make.

But our problems are all our own and all in our head. We just aren't competing or playing smart.

We out coached Oklahoma

We played loose and confident against an Oklahoma team that was hurt by injuries--and lost a starting guard early in the game. Why would we come out so tight against a Louisville team that us good but far from great? We have veteran players that just cannot handle pressure.

What the heck with these full court passes by L'ville, our girls are standing and watching, no defense at all, none, notta, 0. Hope our coaches preached the gospels of defense AND offense at 1/2 time.

Can you say C_H_O_K_E ?

Louisville is just loose as can be now... they won't wilt. Once you show your opponent you are afraid they know they have established their dominance.

Our inability to find shooters when Louisville breaks the press is disheartening.

McGraw is a great coach--best in game. Yes, Diggins is special but she is one player. We have more talent overall than ND and so does CT. She is a smart coach. I just can't stand to see us choke--and that's what this is.

Exactly.., When UConn loses, it's in a very tight game. TN used to be the same way but now more times than not we get beat down which is not good.
