Game Thread Lady Vols vs LSU

If Holly stays here any longer, she will become the "Andy Landers" of LV basketball.
We have a "GREAT" core set up for next year but, if we don't bring in a "REAL" Lady Vol caliber head coach next year its not going to matter.
We most likely have lost A'ja and will not get Asia and the big's we need for 2015. And it will be ALL DOWN HILL from here on and us VFL's - including CP3 - will sit and watch it happen over the next 3 or 4 years just like we watched the football program spin down the toilet the last 8 or 9.
Men's BB, the football team, baseball, track, "Vollyball", but God no, NOT OUR LADY VOLS BB !!!
I know this is just sports. Just for fun........
But I'm not having any fun anymore.
Dave Hart, you get paid to do what you do don't you?
THEN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!
GBO! GLV! A VFL! Or at least until I die.

Wow so we lost to Lsu and now everyone is freaking out. Yes we should have won the game but it's not like it's the end of the world. Yes Louisville beat the crap out of LSU no doubt about that but unlike Louisville every team Tennessee plays gets up to play TN. Why? Cause we are the mecca of woman's college basketball! We have a long season, so let's not everyone freak out I'm sure we will get things back together in a hurry. You all must have forgot when we won our last two NC we didn't go undefeated, so two losses is nothing to go bonkers for. Let's keep our faith in the players and coaching staff. This is only Holly's second year being a HC.

Michelle Voepel said it best a few weeks ago. It's time for Tennessee to just play. unfortunately the lady vols didn't get the message. this style of play is so old school. contrary to what PS thought of Ariel Massengale coming out of high school, she just plays the game way too slowly. while most teams are running the floor and scoring fast break points, Massengale continues to slow this team down and run by the script vs. just playing basketball. I watched this entire game and even when the Lady Vols led, i continued to say to myself...'if Tennessee is the #5 team in the country, the state of Women's Division I Basketball is in trouble.' Even if the Lady Vols had won, they had been out coached and out played the entire game. 5' 9" Ballard (LSU) had her way in the paint with straight paths to the basket on several occasions. i saw Ogwumike do the exact same thing when the Lady Vols played Stanford. It's time to shred the script and and just let them play. The team is constantly looking at the bench to decide what to do next. Massengale is constantly slowing down the game to call a play, that's not executed well. i long for the days where CP3 used to grab the rebound and start the break, not giving the defense time to set-up. there has to be someone else, other than Massengale, who can just get the ball and go. the Lady Vols have all of these top rated players and they can't get it done. we continue to recruit players 6' and above who don't have the lateral quickness to keep up with smaller guards. we have two more coming next year (and they are only avg, regardless of what the reports say). someone on the coaching staff has to take the lead in assembling a national championship team and that means knowing how to put together the right parts to compete. here we go again...elite 8 at best. what about a'ja: she may have seen herself immediately filling a spot on this team, because of how awful they played up until 4 min left in the game (let's hope this is the case) or she didn't see anything that made her believe her game would get any better at tennessee and scratched us from the list. the state of Tennessee sports generally...smh!!!

It amazes me how Stanford can get such home cooking at their place and we can't even get a fair game called half the time at our place. Wtf was with those TWO phantom technical fouls? That's your ballgame right there. Plus, why were Graves and Simmons on the bench so long in the 2nd half. We were down 5 or 6 and our two best players are riding the pine while LSU extends their lead.

And, I'll tell you EXACTLY the psychology of those technical fouls. When you are a bad ref ... not even a bad ref, bad at ANYTHING, most people know it and feel self conscious about it. If someone reacts in any way to your incompetence, your reaction is to immediately get retribution to help yourself feel better. The ref made a horrible foul call on Simmons, knew it, and then made two more mistakes. Disgrace to the game.
I hope you made yourself feel better by posting that ridiculous tripe. Let me help you feel even better - Simmons was on the bench so long because the refs told Holly if Simmons entered the game, both she and MS would be T'd up.

I truly believe that if Izzy was able to make that layup and got an ad 1 or made both free throws we could have either pulled off a win or heading to overtime right now because they would be no need to foul if the game was tied 78-78.
Now you tell us!

I truly believe if the LVs scored more points and LSU scored fewer points, we could have definitely pulled off a win.

At least, we have one team ranked.

He's done it. Part of the problem.

Agree. I screamed at my TV "why didn't you have a play ready?!" They had taken a timeout not long before then. You draw up a play if you're down 3 or down 2 and have it ready. By calling that timeout, you are basically taking away an extra shot you might get if you miss and get the rebound. As it happened, we missed our one shot and that was it.

Man, those free throws Izzy missed really suck, too.

Why do we get screwed in our place by refs?
We don't. But, you have to be honest with yourself to realize that.

they are either coached up well or they are not. UT is not. We have not been a well-coached team for a long time--first because Summitt coached too long, got burned out and then ill, and now Warlick frankly is over her head. She doesn't have the chops to be a head coach--and she obviously wasn't keen to be one or she would have left UT long ago. Whenever we play another good team, we lose--and I'm quite sure this UT squad has more talent than lsu. That's bad coaching. Our leading scorer in the first half doesn't even take a shot in the second????Hello! We don't really know how to attack a matchup zone? We let lsu beat us by spreading the floor all night? BAD coaching.

So, Pat got burned out. Sounds like a familiar rant. Belongs in the We hate Fulmer thread.

Caldwell must be a good coach, but she always seems a bit too styled up and fashionable on the sideline for my taste--and she doesn't show much emotion. I get a sense that she's too caught up in her looks and her clothes--but she just beat us, so she's obviously got more going for her than just being fashion conscious.
What a multitasker. She can come up with an entire game plan in front of the bathroom mirror.

delusional post here. You sound like the folks from the summitt before it was moved to an all paid board. You guys have a great program laregely due to Pat Summitt's har work and dedication. You guys will do nothing with Warlick in charge. Poor game planning, adjustments, and subs. All of those things were seen tonight.

Massengale has been the best player on the team this year--she and Harrison. She has improved a lot over last year. She runs with the ball a LOT--did you miss the fact that we scored 44 points in the first half? Her second half wasn't as good--but the matchup zone slowed us down and we missed shots. She had 11 assists tonight. Massengale needs to improve her defense--as does everyone--but she is not the issue. Warlick is the issue.

Read your own words and really think about 'um. And add, we are 1&2 in our last three. Yes we beat Lipscomb,:eek:lol:
The other two were ranked teams. We won't be, soon.
We are a very poorly coached team with GREAT players.
I don't know 'bout you, but I've been watching/following LV BB for almost thirty years ( I know, I arrived late ) and I guess I'm just seeing some writing on the wall that you and others aren't.
You think Fulmer got a bad deal don't ya?

Warlick isn't the caliber of coach needed to keep UT at the level it should be. I think that much is clear.

You don't hire Paul Schaeffer to replace David Letterman.

Could be good advice for the men's football and basketball teams, too.
