Game Thread Lady Vols vs Missouri

Tonight was like 3 steps backward for this team. Awful defense. Missouri was devastated with injuries, and only had 2 real offensive threats...and Tennessee let both of them pretty much have their way. They need to step it up on both ends of the floor.

Sorry for the cheesy analogy, but this team and holly are like a box of chocolates you never know what you are going to get...one thing is certain, it won't be a final four shot that's for sure

Actually, for the most part, you know what you'll get. Lack of production from the starting guards, and the post players + Ariel carrying the load of the offense.

Tonight was an anomaly, but that's basically been the script this year. If Ariel and Izzy are hot, and Graves is available as a third option, they'll be hard to beat. If Izzy or Ariel is shut down, then they will lose unless one of the starting guards steps it up.

The game was close (for a while) for one reason: Izzy was in foul trouble. The two games we lost this year Izzy didn't play. We're undefeated so far when Izzy plays. We won by double digits with poor officiating not doing us any favors. Relax.

I disagree 53 pts is awful defense? Mizz shot 38% for the game.

Missouri was also missing 3 players, including their starting PG.

Eye hit 5 threes on 5-10 shooting from downtown.

Frericks was 10-17.

Those were the only two players worth a buck on Missouri's team, and Tennessee let both of them go off.

I guess we'll agree to disagree considering we won by 10 and Harrison played 5 minutes

One question?? Why do they continue to give eye open shots? they gave her five this time around..even the announcers couldn't figure out why Morgan eye was left open so many times.

I'm not saying they were perfect, but not as bad as some would like to suggest

This reminded me of Wichita game. That's twice now on our home court we allowed medicore teams run us out of the gym. I'm glad to see other lady vols trying to step up, that's the only positive I have tonight. It was so frustrating to watch I was screaming at the tv. The ladies can't be satisfied with this win. I'm certainly not.

We won the rebounding, FT's, and made more 3's than Mizz, Not a bad night in my opinion. Btw we were also missing our best defender for the entire game, and best player for all but 5 mins

That doesn't give the players an excuse to go postal.

No one went postal. No one even threw a punch --- at least not one that wasn't pulled. They flapped their arms and flapped their jaws a bit. That was pretty tame. Izzy was tired of being held and the other girl was determined to hang onto her. You tell me what is going to happen when no foul is called? Do you try to pull away or do you let the girl hold you? And if you pull away and it escalates then did you "go postal?" Maybe if you pull away demonstratively the refs will call a foul... maybe the other girl won't let go and you get ejected in the resulting tussle. Maybe you get a foul called on you. Tough spot to be in over and over again.

You have obviously never played, or even watched much sports. Fights break out when the officiating is bad or biased if for no other reason than the players have to protect themselves. How could it be otherwise? Frustration is a big part of it but simple self-preservation kicks in at some point too. And when there is a history going back years... let's just say you only saw the tip of the iceberg.

And yeah, it is not exactly a secret that refs have agendas, that they have teams and players they favor, that some want to keep games close and that others want to be the center of attention. But the one thing they all have in common in women's basketball is that they are uniformly bad.

You combine all of this with Izzy having a temper and you get what you saw tonight.

She got the foul called, so I don't see your point. There was no need for her to turn around and engage with that girl. Let her make a fool of herself.

And you obviously don't agree with players keeping their head in the game. The Mizzou girl didn't swing a punch. She held onto Izzy's jersey, got in her face and started mouthing off. Big f-ing deal. What exactly was Izzy protecting, other than her ego? Walk away with a smirk on your face and laugh about what an idiot she is; don't stoop down to her level.

You can leave it as "Izzy having a temper". Pat wouldn't have put up with that kind of behavior, and neither should Holly. That was beneath Izzy, and unfortunately, it's not the first time it's happened to her.

Missouri wanted to take Izzy out of the game and the refs were happy to help out. I thought it made the refs look foolish, but that's just me. I'm still wondering why they picked Moore at random to throw out of the game after ten minutes to think about it. In any case, it was all worth it if Carter truly broke out tonight.

They screwed up. It should have been Burdick. It looked like Nia, along with about three other players, walked on the court before Dean ushered them back to the bench. By that point, Cierra was already in the huddle with the players on the court.

As hard as this one was to watch,it was still a win. Any team has games like this, even mighty UConn had one against Stanford. That being said,Izzy should have let her play answer the frustration she had by being hacked and pushed so much. That's what smart players do instead of losing control and focus. Here's hoping she uses this lesson to springboard into an all american type season, which she is capable of. Other players must step up continuously,as they did tonight. For all intents and purposes,Izzy was on the sideline all game. The entire team should learn from this and stop being so passive. Now is the time for team leaders to step up and demand better performance from all who play.

Ya burdick needed to make her presence known somehow I guess because it sure wasn't during the game. And poor nia...she def got the shaft there

Saw Holly had Dunbar playing the 4 tonight. If she wants to hire me as an assistant coach I'm available.

Enterline is one of the worst officials in WCBB.
What is sad is this is best I've ever seen him ref...still atrocious but then he is.

Bottom line: misery is a dirty team and has to play dirty to stay in game, refs did not call obvious muggings that started at tip off, Izzy needs to get over it, all she did was what misery wanted her to do and Enterline was happy to oblige. I know it's rough and frustrating, but if she can't do better than that, then she might as well sit on the bench. And the first foul was picky..touch foul, but two if not three of the others came when she threw herself backwards and came down on the player behind her. They were fouls; much as I despise ref BE, she needs to go straight up and quit throwing herself around. This would be a good time for Holly to do some coaching.

Not getting on you...but how can you possibly say this was not a bad night. If you looked at the caliber of players Missouri had on the floor compared to our so-called McDonald's All Americans, there is no comparison to be made. I can't wait until we start playing to our ability instead of mimicking the team we are playing!

31% shooting and barely scoring 60 against horrible competition is nothing to be happy about. Massey has Missouri at UConn as a 51-point spread. The Vols have got to start showing some offense or it will be an early exit from the NCAA tournament once again. So much wasted talent on this team.

As far as how the ladies represented the university last night, some internal punishment needs to be given out. Pat would not have allowed such antics. This team misses her guidance in more ways than one. Leadership starts at the top.

And there it is. Your attempt at looking "unbiased" is making you look like a fool. Everything Voluble said is true, and you know it. Come down off your high horse, because you're not impressing anyone. It's obvious to everyone here you either didn't play sports or you sat your ass on the bench the whole time. Everyone has a breaking point. Maybe Izzy DOES need to keep her cool, but the officials ALSO need to do their jobs. When Brian Enterline is on the floor, bad sh*t happens. It's a rule. And Holly's damn clueless ass needs to let the refs have it, even if it means her getting a T. She is such a pushover with the refs, and it's pathetic.

I am FAR from a homer and I think the ugly fat Mizzou troll was asking for an ass kicking. And she almost got it from both Izzy and Draya last night.

given the Board Rules this statement must have been written by a privileged male fan

"FAR from a homer and I think the ugly fat Mizzou troll was asking for an ass kicking."
