Game Thread Lady Vols vs Missouri

Izzy is not being singled out. That is 100% on her, not Holly.

Who said anything about Holly?

The other girl grabbed Izzy and she pulled away. Then they both postured and acted like they wanted to chicken fight. It wasn't a big deal. Everyone stopped it.

The women's game is physical under the basket and the officiating is uniformly awful there. Then they call touch fouls on the perimeter. There should be fights in every game... and would be if these were guys.

I told my wife right after this happened that we would get the worst of the call even though the Mizzouri player was pushing Izzy during the play, headlocked Izzy after the play, AND pushed Carter with two hands. As usual, I was right and the refs suck ass. And, they actually get paid to do whatever it is they are supposed to be doing.

Who is #14 for Tennessee tonight?

Hopefully, this spells the end of her shooting slump. She was solid in the 2nd half.

Izzy was frustrated and RIGHTFULLY so because she gets called for fouls standing feet planted both hands straight up. The opposition (in our gym btw) gets to PUSH her two hands and put her in a headlock and NOT get called. I'd react much worse than Izzy and feel rightfully justified.

There is history here too with how the refs call games against us in our own house. You can't just look at it as an isolated incident. This has been building for a long, long time.

They have been better (but still bad) this year, but last year was awful.

Great second half glad to see players like Carter and Reynolds step up and make plays. We won that half by 14 played very well.

There is no history. Zero. Maybe in the minds of biased fans, but Tennessee is not the only team in the country that has fouls go against them. That doesn't give the players an excuse to go postal.

I don't think any players got suspended for the next game just ejected from this one. Of course you never know they may still come down from the SEC office have to wait and see.

I know in years past it was common for our posts to have welts and scratches on their forearms from where they were held all game. I almost gave up watching the women entirely a year or two ago just because the officiating is so bad. They concentrated on cleaning up touch fouls committed 30 ft from the basket instead of people being held and hammered in the post. That was just flat out insane.

Anyway, if Jones is out and both of our centers are out then the next game or two will certainly be interesting.

Part of the problem is that TBA isn't particularly tough in the crowd. I've been to several games. Most of the crowd is older folks who don't make noise. Vanderbilt is a tough place to play. Stanford is a tough place to play. Subconsciously this affects the referees but it rarely, never happens with us. Pat would jump on the refs to help SOME. But, I never see Holly do that.

Missouri has to foul to stay in the game. Their hope is that the Refs miss a few and they certainly did tonight.

100% agree that the officiating in the women's game is pretty bad. They call touch fouls on the perimeter, but allow World War III and full out decapitations in the paint.

My point is that this is not unique to Tennessee. I remember how Glory used to get mauled during her days, but Griner also got abused on a daily basis. So did Chiney.

No one's targeting Izzy. The officials AS A WHOLE are just not very good.

this was a win but not the best we can do. If we continue to play like this we are going to have some real issues. When a team is missing their two best players, including their post this game should have been won easily by the Ladies.
I am proud of Carter because if it were not for her sudden offensive breakout, the win would have been in doubt. The refs made a few bad calls, however, we just played bad. However, it is a win but improvements need to be made. Also Graves played a good game. Congratulations Miss Carter, I hope this gives you confidence to get even better. Holly let Middleton play.:clapping:

Our women's crowd at the game is dead most of the time. It would really help the team with their energy if the crowd would get behind them more.

Hopefully Harrison will play a smarter game at Vandy. They will be fouling on every shot. There is not a team in the league that fouls more than Vandy. Hopefully the pushing, Clawing, and grabbing want get to us over there.

Per twitter, no punches = no suspenions

As it should be...let it go and move on. Izzy had a bad game and was obviously frustrated from being mauled and continually hacked inside. Not one of holly's better coaching performances. it seems like every game we don't have any kind of offensive rhythm. I thought it was telling at the half when peck was interviewing holly, she made no mention of the atrocious offense, but made her same manufactured remarks about how they needed to play better defense. I guess we can expect this kind of wishy washy offensive execution from here on out...

Tonight was like 3 steps backward for this team. Awful defense. Missouri was devastated with injuries, and only had 2 real offensive threats...and Tennessee let both of them pretty much have their way. They need to step it up on both ends of the floor.

Sorry, can't make the trip this year - I believe it was Enterline I yelled at one year "Are you going to blow your whistle or just suck on it?" I tend to raise a little hell when I'm there and I'm close enough to be heard and was heard that day. :scare:
