Game Thread Lady Vols vs Notre Dame

I know you guys are going to jump on me.and thats fine....But why didn"t they hire Pat"s son cripe he knows all the plays.I know he went to another collage but doesn't moneyt talk?
Tyler was not and is not now ready for that Quantum Leap!!!

Got to pull together and win the Florida game. Still have a chance to get better how we'll do that don't know but hope someone figures it out.

he needs a lot more experience and it is best that he gets away from his moms legendary status at UT for a while or at least to me,hopefully he will get hired back here after a couple of years, but we don't know what he wants to do,which is what is important

The Zone defense killed us plain and simple! Any moron could have seen that!!!!! I'm not a coach and I could see that we should have got out of that zone a long time ago!! Our Coach I guess just doesn't have it. Pat Summit rarely ever out of all her coaching years ever played zone it was all man to man. Wish Holly would take heed of that!! I'm so f*&ing disgusted right now

Lady Vols were awful in the second half on offense.Their defense was stinky the whole game. No,Freak, the LVs have no player who will lead them to greater heights.Nor do they have the leadership from the bench to help them out.As a whole, they play hard, but miss way too many open short shots and lay ups.Man to man defense is awful. How many times have we heard Pat Summitt tell the team to get in the opponent's jersey? These ladies cannot even stay between their opponent and the goal, which is the basic tenet of defense. It is tiresome to watch opponents shoot 3 point shots like they're in a shootaround.Does our defense just hope they miss some? Obviously so.First half should have ended with our LVs up by 15 points or more, except for the poor defense.Once again, the substitution pattern was head scratching to say the least. The team seems to be rudderless on the floor and from the bench.
Now we'll probably hear we have to go back to basics for the umpteenth time this year. This is the basic that the team should learn.Play with purpose and aggression, when someone scores on us they must earn it,and we will dictate the style of game.An earlier poster stated that this lackadaisical style of play became prevalent when Pat brought in the six high school All Americans at once. That was exactly right. I'm afraid the attitude will only change with a coaching change.Holly seems to be out of her element. Either that,or the team basketball IQ is very low.

I blame Holly for this loss, the one against LSU and Vanderbilt.

I have to agree mainly because she harped on how much time we had spent on defense and how good we were gonna be. 86 points tonight, 80 for LSU, Vandy? Where is the defense.

Jeez, quit blaming Simmons.

Tn had to play zone because their bigs were getting schooled by ND inside. the guards tried to help inside and gave to much space to open shooters. that's bad coaching not players, imho

the rules as called now doesn't let TN play an aggressive Man to Man so pat ball wouldn't help either.

the coaches failed to get the team mentally straightened out after the bad 2nd half start.

Time to upgrade the assistants at least, imho

The way I have it figured out either Holly has no clue how to teach defense or these players can't learn how to play it and probably more likely they just don't have the ability to play defense.

Now, I feel like I don't know what I see. I don't know if its Holly. I really don't. Parity has been coming for a long time -- can't just put on jerseys and automatically win games like teams once did. But whatever it is you need to win, UT doesn't have it right now. Whatever it is they are, whatever it is they want to be, we haven't seen it yet. Or, maybe we have.

If it were easy then Pat wouldn't be the icon that she is.

That having been said. There is no excuse for how this team is playing. Holly doesn't have them playing anywhere near their potential this season. Last year we had better chemistry and less talent. This year we are just flat out awful, and much worse than our record indicates.

There is not a damn reason in the world we can't play tough, and smart, like some of these teams we are playing against. And we should expect nothing less. It was understandable before when we were a top team and had all the pressure. Maybe you get a batch of players who can't handle it. It happens.

Well, we haven't been a top team in a long, long time and several classes of players have had the same problem so it is obviously something that is endemic to the program. Our brand of basketball is synonymous with stupid, half-assed, scared play where the team plays tentatively and looks for every reason to fold rather than looking for ways to win. With the exception of last year, we just play without much heart.

It hurts to say all of that, but it is true.

There is no use putting it all on Holly. This problem predates her--- and there is no hope of a coaching change for years yet anyway. So we just have to hope she figures it out.

One of the many things this team needs is toughness, and Holly may just be too nice to give the team that. If it is true she even let Elzy skip a scout against KY last year because of mixed loyalties to her old players then there is little hope Holly will ever grow into the type of tough minded coach who demands 100% commitment that we need.

We just have to hope she grows into the job as quickly as she has grown into those extra large pantsuits she is sporting on the sidelines these days.

the players need to execute at a high level for 40 minutes all so,it isn't all on the coaches,it is a combination of the two

Yes you have to be able to knock down five and eight footers and layups. Lazy passes in the second half came back to haunt us. Bad free throw shooting, scary like were cursed.

He needs some head coaching experience before he would ever be considered a viable candidate, in my mind anyway.

i do agree with you,he needs experience at all levels of coaching,of course if he were here, all everybody would be talking about, would be when is he going to be the head coach, which would be unfair to who ever the coach is

She played one of her best games can't really jump her for anything. I think some of the bigs failed us in the second half.

The problem is she gets the rest of the team out of rhythm with her ball hogging and no one knows what she's doing. For them to beat a team like Notre Dame everyone has to be involved.

she just never gets it at all and every game i continue to see no changes. they are times the team does show flashes of what they can really be but it's usually short lived like in this game and they revert back to their old ways while the coach refuses to make the necessary adjustments to better the team.

I really miss that icy stare that Pat would give the girls. Worked like a charm. Something is just missing with this team....and it's not talent.

I think this best summarizes this season for most of us up to this point...The Curious Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde - YouTube You can watch all of it but most of you will get the point right away! Just put basketball in place of medicine!!! Make the statement "Crack in the Door"...Halftime! It works perfect! Hiding in the shadows is perfect for Practice!!! "Wretched potion" has to be the Heart Pins!
