hope geno loses tonight!

Haha we can all hope, but I wouldn't be surprised if they win by 30. honestly, who does Stanford have to match up against kml and stewart, much less jefferson, tuck and stokes, not to mention all their freshman.

I did not like our zone defense at all in the 2nd half. ORoberts found our holes and got a couple open shots on the 3. Against a top 10 team, we can't have that.
I hope Holly goes with man-to-man this season. My thinking was with a short bench, to go with zone in the 2nd half more? Hope that was the case. We played better man-to-man.

Maybe holly called off the dogs to rest them and make sure no one gets hurt, but ya I agree, they play much better defense in a man. Even their press was very effective

Good all around play from the entire team. Unbelievable how Nia Moore has looked in the first 2 games! In both games, she was up against post players that are pretty good and had size, but she's been on a mission. Her and Harrison will make a formidable low post tandem.

Graves seems to be playing with more confidence, and its good to see Ariel with a solid game (even though, according to DarthVol, she hasn't improved since her freshman year). The freshmen are all contributing right away, and Jordan Reynolds has been a very solid PG so far this year.

Can't wait to see how this team fares against the tougher part of their schedule. They are playing with really good flow right now!

Moore aren't we all surprised, amazed whatever. Her defense this evening was so impressive. and several very nice jump hooks. She has moved from an end of the bench to a major contributor in just three games.

She looks like a different person. Very confident and athletic.

Agree about Moore. The young woman has been stapled to the bench for, what, two years, she gets her first serious playing time, and it is obvious that she can play. She moves well, plays pretty good defense and has some offensive skills. She will help this team--and maybe a lot. And she's got upside as she's just getting started. She made a couple of silly plays: If you get the ball at the free-throw line--12 feet from the basket, and you are open--take the shot and don't try to pass in traffic to somebody closer to the basket, resulting in a turnover. She and Harrison give us the skinniest two power forwards/centers in women's basketball--but two is better than one, and really her game is not much different than Harrison's, though it lacks a little polish. I'm interested to see how this team plays, what the rotation is, when we get Harrison and Jones back on the floor and we are playing better competition. The one thing offensively this team HAS to stop doing is being predictable about throwing the ball into a low post player. If you are moving the ball crisply and can do it as part of your offensively flow, so that the low post gets the ball with a bit of space, then great. But the Vols have a tendency to telegraph their intention to get the ball insideg: the perimeter players start standing and waiting to pass the ball into the post--and, surprise, the opposing players collapse on the low post player and you end up with a turnover. Onward and upward.

They have a more balanced team this year, especially with Ariel back. Good scoring potential from 1-7.

Unless Burdick has substantially improved, she should be be moved to the bench as a high post sub for Bashaara. Jones should be 3rd at the wing behind Nared and Dunbar, or as a defensive stopper.

Ariel plays better coming off the bench. She is better than most tired and physical guards and other teams 3, 4, 5 guards especially after Reynolds, Carter and AM have beaten em up.

I really do hope that with Massengale, Carter and Burdick coming back that the Freshmen and Moore still continues to see valuable minutes on the floor.

Holly has a great problem to have you wonder how she is going to cut the rotation. I guess Moore, Harrison, and Graves can be the post rotation. We have a lot of point guards Reynolds is not a scorer but when you have 7 steals and 7 assists you are going to play a lot of minutes. Carter comes in and gets six steals. Massengale goes off for 21 points in 22 minutes. Dunbar 10 points and 6 rebounds in half a game 2 of 2 from three.
The only negative I can find is 13 turnovers and Oral Roberts didn't force a one of them.
So Jones comes back and Burdick is eligible to play again and Nared playing so well a lot of options for Holly.

PG-Reynolds, Massengale, Middleton, Carter
SG-Massengale, Tucker, Carter, Dunbar, Middleton
C-Harrison, Moore
PF-Graves, Moore, Burdick
WF-Nared, Jones, Burdick

We can press hard all game on any team.

It'll be interesting to see how well these numbers stack up when we play our 4 ranked out of conference opponents (Texas, Rutgers, Stanford, and Oklahoma State) before we start the SEC schedule.

I'm a bit disappointed our OOC schedule seems to be pretty weak by traditional standards. Even our unranked opponents in past years have had better RPI's than the teams we are facing this year.

Since Stanford beat UCONN, that'll be a big game and test. If we can win or even win convincingly, that would be a big confidence booster.

Ya it seems like we forced a few things last night, but I also though oral roberts stepped up the defensive pressure compared to what penn showed us. It seems like they def keyed in on Middleton as she didn't even have a three point attempt, but then you have massengale off the bench going off for 21 points. We just have so many weapons it's unreal, and that doesn't even count tucker who hasn't seen the floor yet. I imagine if tucker is as good as advertised, then this team is a legitimate number 1. I can't even imagine how good we will be next year!!
