I believe coach is OK with shooting 30 threes if a reasonable percentage of those shots go in. I didn't see a conscious effort to shoot midrange shots to open the paint. Are there shooters that can make a midrange shot when you need it? I saw some nice picks that should have generated a foul line J. I might be wrong. Several days after the game I may be misremembering.

Talaysia Cooper has often come through with scores on quite a few mid-range jumpers, but she's either on, or painfully off, lately. If she could get that back consistently, we'll be golden. I like what often happens immediately after Cooper makes a mid- to close-range shot, too. Her immediate instinct is to go for a steal and score on the opponent's inbounds play, and she has been successful a pretty good number of times. The crowd loves those!

Well yes, this was always the question and why Kellie was fired. She came very close alot, esp last year. Through all kinds of sloppy inefficient play. But could never, ever get over the hump. For sure CKC was brought here to finally get over it and with the recruiting class she has and the grit of this team, she most likely will.

As far as if the current team will continue to battle, absolutely they will. They are fighters and know how close they are. My only question is if they have enough mental and physical energy left in the tank and esp in the legs. This is an incredibly demanding system. We'll see how it plays out esp in tourney format.
I have been trying to not make comparisons between CKC and KJH but for this one time... I think the big difference is that there was definite feeling, and probably justified, that Kellie had hit her ceiling. A S16 was about as good as it would get and that maybe even that level of success was getting behind her.

With CKC, the clear sense is that the ceiling is much higher and again, her recruiting class adds a lot of merit to this idea.

I also believe that this team has not reached its potential yet. But, the clock is starting to tick a bit on this season. They need a strong run of wins to get their seeding up.

SC fan here. Good game on Monday. I want to see how teams do against Tennessee the second time they play them. The system Kim uses is very different than what SEC teams normally see. It was a shock to the system but after the first Q I thought our team settled in and didn’t let you speed them up. Hopefully the next time we play we can start there. They will be a tough out for teams who haven’t played against this style before. I know Ohio State is similar but some teams won’t know what hit them.

I do think you have the right coach. Whether her system will flourish at this level remains to be seen but I think she’s very capable of making adjustments.

‘The SEC is very difficult right now and I’m here for it. It makes for some thrilling games. If I was a UConn fan I would be absolutely bored out of my mind playing in that conference.

Good luck the rest of the season unless you play us.

That team also had Chamique Holdsclaw who went full Jordan during the tournament. I don't think a player has ever dominated the women's NCAA tournament the way she did that season.
Kicking a hornets nest.
Tennessee volunteers lost most of those games during Kellie Jolly injury.
I know it's still popular bashing Kellie.
I remember game in that 97 title run Holdsclaw was in foul trouble and Kellie came up big UConn made a effort to cut Tennessee lead.
That championship doesn't happen without Jolly
Go back and watch those games.
Kellie had good three point shot. Point guard that made those 97,98 championship teams go.
And she held her own on defense
And could drive to the basketball.
Best Free throw percentage shooter on the team.

Jordan needed Pippen to win titles. Candace needed Shannon Bobbitt. The flipside is that it is also easier to be a really good point guard when you have Jordan, Parker, or Holdsclaw on your team.

Saying Holdsclaw was a great player is not "bashing Kellie." No hornets' nest kicked except imaginary ones.

South Carolina 8 -0
LSU ------------------6-1
Texas ---------------6-1
Kentucky -----------6-1
Alabama ------------4-3
Vanderbilt ----------4-3
Oklahoma -----------4-3
Old Miss --------------4-3
Texas A&M ---------3-4
Tennessee ----------3-5
Mississippi state 3-5
Florida -----------------2-6
If this was a horse race.
The Tennessee walking horse is not going to finish show/top3
Eight games played out sixteen schedule.
Tennessee isn't finishing top four.
Tied for 10 with Mississippi state 3-5
Tennessee volunteers can not afford to lose to anybody in 11-16 place.
Not if they don't want to be first team to miss the NCAA tournament rocky top.
Ten place means bubble team.
Tennessee needs to finish top eight to be safe.
If this was a track race -across country it's time to go if Tennessee volunteers has anything in the tank!!
They are ranked 12th in the NET and the NET is going to play a huge role in selecting the field and Tennessee only has Florida and Ole Miss left to play in that bottom 11-16 and I think our chances are pretty good against both plus many of the teams ahead of us. LSU was a one point loss and if we could sneak an upset there, we should get that 4 seed. The tough stretch of our schedule is finally over.

They were other players who won two champions and some who just won one championship but they where not much dead weight on those teams. 96-98
Kellie was the. back up to Michelle on 96 team.
Tennessee had the three meeks in 98 .

Kellie absolutely played a pivotal role in that Cinderella Season. I think a lot of people forget just how dang tough that girl was. In all honesty, Jolly may rank as #1 all-time toughest, followed closely by Candace Parker. I think Jolly may stand alone, though, as the player I think wanted most to give her all to Tennessee.

She was/is special. I want so much for people to remember that.

I wouldn't belittle the comeback as just "South Carolina taking their foot off the gas." That's not really what Staley does, and it's not as though their lead was ever insurmountable.
The comeback was a byproduct of Fulwiley launching 3s outside of the offense and Tennessee quicky converting on the other end. Dawn putting Dauda in the game and she turned the ball over on 3 consecutive possessions. Add all that with fatigue and you almost blow a 22-point lead.

Kellie Jolly could have score more if she was a player that was like I got to get my own stats.
It takes a unselfish player to look to get ball to a teammates for a better shot selection.
