Game Thread Lady Vols vs Syracuse

I am not delusional at all. I am in charge. I am a fan. I get to vote with my pocketbook. I will be in Ktown next week and usually my family of five would attend a game or two, but we did not last year and will not this year. Something will have to change before CHW gets my vote. I do hope she can prove me wrong, but the longer this goes the more doubts I have.

No, sweetie. You aren't in charge. The four to six people I bring with me to games seven or eight times per year far outweigh your five a couple of times per year. And we will continue showing up and pulling for this team AND its coaches, and Tennessee will continue to have one of the highest attendance rates in all of women's basketball because they will continue to win, regardless of whether you show up or not.

(And, for what it's worth, Holly doesn't have to prove anything to you. If you don't like the brand of ball being played, pound sand.)

To claim you "love" a team -- a team that wins FAR more than it loses -- and to be in town and make a point not to attend the game tells me everything I need to know about you. You are no kind of fan.

And I will be there for SEC Tournament. :p

Hey Ivy and Pat4Life,

I appreciate your passion for LVBB. I hope they do great this year. But they have coaching problems that if they do not get fixed are going to cause great harm to the program. This is more than bad shooting, young players, and this season.

CHW is VFL, but she has not gotten the most out of the talent available to her. I hope she turns it around and I have to come back and eat crow at the end of the season.

Have a great evening and Go Vols!!!

holly has been to the final four 18 times on somebody else's dime. wake me up when she gets her own team there. I'll probably be dead & gone though so good luck with that.

Carter took 4 shots in 25 minutes and made 1 of them
Cooper took 17 shots in 26 minutes and made 4 of them.

Almost an identical percentage!

Gentlemen, I know none of us are pleased with what we saw tonight....The offense on this team is lacking a lot...But if the girls could hit a few of the open shots, it would look so much better...

Holly is not a great coach, but she may be adequate. When Diamond hits a few of her shots things will change.

I don't expect to beat Chattanooga Monday, but we will get better....

Come on Gule! I'll pay your way to the final 4 and you can watch Uconn mop up the floor with South Carolina and Notre Dame! LOL!

I thought I'd never hear any one ever say that they don't expect THE TN LADY VOLS to beat UTC ever in my lifetime... That is how bad Tn has slipped under current management.

I absolutely expect a win over Chattanooga. It won't be as close as either of the last two games.

(If I'm wrong, I'll join Gule in rooting for Uconn!)

Ivy and Pat4Life (love your moniker),

Your doubts and frustrations for some of the posters on this board are no different than our disillusionment concerning Holly's strategy and leadership (or lack thereof). It goes both ways, as most things in life. Your right to critique us is exactly the same as ours to question Holly.

I think we can agree on one thing: the LVs deserve to get back on top where they belong. At this point, and hopefully I'm wrong, I don't think Holly is the answer. That doesn't make me or anyone in VolNation a bad fan.

Well, then I'll hope doubly hard that they make the Final Four this year.

The problem is we had a great coach for over 30 years and now we have Holly. It is a tough pill to swallow.

"Adequate" doesn't cut it at the program that put women's college baskerball on the map.

It is difficult for people to accept but the chances of us ever getting another coach like Pat are pretty miniscule. Look at UCLA. When Luigi leaves UCONN they will be in the same predicament, etc. etc. How good is Holly? I would classify her as maybe a top 50 coach. Can she get better? That's up to her. The problem is this is good enough for Dave Hart and the BOT. The women's program loses money. Even with a great coach it lost money. I do think this team will get a lot better but maybe not because of Holly but because we have a lot of good players. The question is will good players continue to come here with Holly as coach. Only time will tell.

Personally I think we do... In previous years when games that are close and they were down they would panic and get a tad frantic and not make logical moves they would rush shoot and not play out... Anytime Syracuse mad a run or took the lead, Tenn calmy went to their bread and butter and fed Russell and Graves or Jas attacked the basket.. in the past couple of season they wouldn't have done that it would have been Ariel or Meghan quick shooting 3's... When they turned over the ball with 5 secs left last years team would've panicked but they didn't they just went and got a stop that to me shows composure

What composure? Nothing personal, but we had no composure. The LVs tried to give this game away, SU would not take it.

Sandvol, I respect where you're coming from, but when you factor in the impact Pat Summitt has had on our university on the PR and ambassadorship front, the women's program doesn't lose money, quite the contrary.

According to many of the Annual Giving Program workers and volunteers, Pat's greatness and grace have influenced countless millions in contributions. That speaks volumes to the power of our Lady Vol brand, unfortunately something Dave Hart and Jimmy Cheek can't (or won't) comprehend.

Pat's legacy lives on, which is why I'm so passionate about the present and future of the Lady Vols program. What Pat built deserves to stay the best, and if Holly can't get it done, I'm praying Pat's son can.

Yes we did win and we are 3-0, but right now this is not a top five team. If we were playing one of the top ten teams we would have been run out of the gym. It is bad enough we can't recruit, but with this much talent we should be better than this. Texas is big and they can shoot. They can put a 6'7" and a 6'5" on Russell then what are we going to do? Some of the players we have were good shooters in high school, what happen? The only way we can open up things inside is shoot from the outside.

We were lucky that our competition could not shoot the last 2 minutes of the game or we could have easily been 2-1. Am I happy we won, of course I am. However, to reach the final 4 we will need better coaching and a better offense. What we are doing on the floor right now will not get it done. Why do we keep putting in all these different combinations? Syracuse only played 8 players and stuck pretty much with their starters. What happen to Kortney in the second half, she seems to be playing better than Reynolds and Jones. I hope that Holly can get this talent on track, what we see right now is not going to drag a lot of recruits to Tennessee.

If we play like we did tonight it is possible we will get beat by Chattanooga, I don't expect to lose but would not be surprised if it happened. This team does not look like it is all together or if they are in sync. Right now they are anything but what they are capable of being. We have final 4 personnel, the question is can our coaching staff get us there? Only time will tell.

I agree that Holly is not a great coach, but it is going to take more than an adequate coach if we plan to play with the big dogs and get back to years gone by. The problem is adequate coaches may have winning records, but few win championships.

It's very fortunate the entire first month are all home games. They wouldn't have won this game at Syracuse, and they very well would have lost to Penn State on the road. I would expect Holly to lose AT Chattanooga (yet again) but they probably pull this one out at home. But then again, with Hollyball you never know... :dunno:

All you wrote is accurate but right now DeShields is just not playing well. Shooting is off, and she is turning the ball over too much trying to make the highlight reel pass. Unless her leg injuries are more severe than thought, she will find her groove. If she hit a few shots at key points, the LVs have a comfortable margin. Similarly, Russell needs to play a little stronger but I think her errors-- putting the ball down low, not getting two hands on rebounds--can also be resolved with more playing time.

The defensive tenacity in the clutch is a positive to build on.

The need to get a lot better but I actually feel much better about this team than last year's squad at this same point in the season.

would it hurt them a bit to show a little swag when and if they finally luck in an outside shot? Sometimes you can build up yourself & your team by just showing confidence. Anybody every see DT play? She had swag!
