Playing 2-3 freshmen, even if they are high school All Americans, comes with crazy play. Gotta give Holly cred for playing them so long and making changes when needed tonight. Nared and Mercedes both played well.

Agreed. I didn't watch the entire last quarter yet but from what I have seen they are using more set plays. Amen. Think people been asking for that for what 4 or 5 years?

I didn't see the whole game but I am glad we came away with the win. A and M looked pretty ragged.

There is NO EXCUSE for missing layups unless you are knocked senseless being fouled! And if you are going to take shots from Maryville, you better hit them. Missed several FTs also. Those should be gimmies.

I contrast our "motion" with some really good teams,and we still have a lot of standing around on offense. Throwing it in to MR doesn't work if she can't catch them!

Glad for the win but so much to clean up.

I'll give you a hint. All of the players getting blown by, look at their feet. If your feet are wrong you're basically screwed. I mean that's assuming she knew the scout and wasn't playing too close on the player to begin with. Even still defense starts at your feet.

Defensive Footwork is all about foot-speed... The amount of time it takes for you to drop your step is key.

The staff was as into this game, emotionally and vocally, as I have ever seen them be.

The refs didn't affect the outcome...That is good reffing.

The crowd was a bit on edge tonight, but it was great to get that win. You could almost hear a collective sigh of relief when the LVs finally started to pull away in the 4th. Nared seemed to get some of her confidence back, and Hayes ended up having a good game. Davis needs to play a bigger role-- she could be a difference maker down the stretch. Westbrook is a more tentative player than she was in Nov/Dec. She hit a 3, but was 1-10 from the field and missed three FTs. Need to get her going again before UGA comes to town.

Well, this looked like a different team than the one that just happened to be on the floor against LSU. Good energy and effort over 4 quarters and some clutch shooting down the stretch.

Nice to see Jamie adjust her game and take the ball into the paint since the outside shot is not going well right now.

And I impressed with how Holly handled Annie and how Annie recalibrated. She had an horrendous start but the LVs probably don't win the game without her. She made a lot fo plays in the 2nd half.

I posted this in the “Holly can’t coach thread” but maybe someone hear can answer this...

I can’t figure out why with the numbers (assists and especially assist/turnovers) Westbrook has been putting up lately from the PG spot why people don’t think she is a PG. she reminds me a lot of Harris at SC both focused on running their team but both are good in the half court and can find the open player in transition... can see over defenses and play good position defense (most of the time). I think when you look at Westbrook’s numbers it says PG. I love Hayes numbers too! I am glad we have both! Gary Blair stated Hayes was a true PG and sometimes you need those and moving Westbrook to the two (which sounded like he was referring to his own situation with carter) because he then he looks at the score sheet and says “ well I guess uhmm holly knows what to do though” Westbrook had 6 assists and 1 turnover. Last game 7 assists 1 turnover and the game before that 5 assists 1 turnover. While those are just a snapshot in the season she is averaging 5 on the season and right now is on pace to break the freshman UT assist record (for apg) and has a shot at the overal total assist record.

But Westbrook needs to start hitting some shots. She was 1-10 last night. She hasn't been able to throw it in the ocean lately, and while we have other scoring options, she needs to be one of them if only to keep the other team's defense honest. In addition, 58% from the FT line is not acceptable from her. She needs to get in the gym and put up shots.

I agree about her hitting shots and I think they will fall. I also agree about free throws! I am just impressed at the way she has cut down the turnovers lately and got her teammates involved. Much better options than in years past. Can see the floor better than recent PGs and plays defense better too. I think once someone tinkers with her shot mechanics she will be fine. She gets pretty good lift but her release is sort of sideways.

This is a game where we may have seen the opponent go way off their game plan. They looked a lot like we looked in some of our fourth quarter losses.

Hayes's 2 out 3 3 pointers was great. Tennessee's 7 out of 18 was much better than Texas A&M's 2 out of 7, a 15-point edge.

Carter is a bit of an Ahole. She got over physical with Nared several times, especially when she had a hard time scoring. I am proud that Nared held her cool.
